Have a Nice Day! A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks687 reviews

HarperAudio, 2000

Laugh, cry, get blown away with this spellbindingly heartfelt autobiography, with no ghostwriters attached!
Amazing that in a few weeks, Mick Foley poured his life and soul into 760 pages of notebook paper that would make it, lightly cut and without any major edits, onto book, and earn it's New York Times #1 Bestseller's List. If only it weren't for that Oprah! (readers of the book will understand) Starting from childhood, he makes it quick, but sweet as he tells humorous stories about his friends, ...

Homer H., Jr Hickam

Perfection Learning Prebound, 2000

Amazing True Story
Homer Hickam grew up in a rural isolated mountain town but went on to win the National Science Fair. This book is his story and how he was successful. I bought 24 copies of this book to inspire my advanced 6th grade Reading class. They loved the book. In our discussions they mentioned never giving up. Homer and his friends kept trying until they had success. Thank you for sharing your ...

Left to Tell: Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust367 reviews

Hay House, Inc., 2007

Left to Tell
Left to Tell is a powerful story of one womens tragedies and survival experienced during the Genocide in Rwanda. This book brought tears and joy to my heart; it inspired me to know that through any horrible and life threatening experience a belief and faith in God will transcend all atrocities man will commit. It is also about how forgiveness can calm and soothe the soul so life can move on with ...

For Laci268 reviews
Sharon Rocha

Random House Audio, 2005

one of the best books I've ever read
being a mother, my heart bleeds for Sharon...I cried through the whole story - that Scott deserves nothing less than eternal hell - he did it - there is no doubt - I just cannot believe the difference from "lover" to "murderer" - I've seen it, not the murderer part but know of hot/cold people - it boggles the mind that even when they(Laci's family) tried to extend sympathy to the Peterson family ...

Infidel254 reviews

The Free Press, 2007

Harlequin Saves
In her book "Infidel," Ayaan Hirsi Ali acknowledges several people who made it possible for her to survive the Islamic tribalism she grew up under in Africa, to escape to Holland after her father arranged for her to marry a man she didn't love and to prosper thereafter. But if I were to cite one overriding factor that saved her, it would be the Western novels she read. Throughout "Infidel," ...

The Revolution648 reviews

Grand Central Publishing, 2008

How is this man not our President?
You know that feeling you get right before a big election? The total and complete indifference that is akin to having tea or coffee with your meal perhaps? The apathy that I was once accustomed to experience when the conversation turned towards politics has since been replaced with a burning and intense passion and desire for real change. As we all know far too well that nothing of substance ...

Truman278 reviews
David McCullough

Bt Bound, 2001

wonderful sense of American history
I have read most of McCullough's books, and so I knew that after reading this I would understand Harry S. Truman more deeply than I ever had. What I didn't know what was that I would learn so much about 20th century American history. McCullough is a great story-teller. His use of historical details to recreate the man and the times is magnificent. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Fight Terrorism and Build Nations One School at a Time1256 reviews
Greg Mortenson, David Oliver Relin

Tantor Media, 2006

Three Cups of Tea
This is an outstanding story, well told. I think it should be required reading at the high school level. I also think every member of Congress should read it. It is not only heart warming, but really significant that one person can accomplish so much and to know that there are so many muslims that share or value of education for both boys and girls. It was also very educational about what is ...

With the Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa198 reviews
E. B. Sledge

Presidio Press, 1990

I understand my Grandfather
I never fully understood my grandfather till I read this book as part of a collage class on WWII. He never talks about the war. He has storys of his time in boot camp, and his time in Japan after the war ended, but none during the war its self. I never understood what he went through, or how it made him who he is till I read this book. I knew he was a marine, and that he was stationd in ...

Anya Seton

Buccaneer Books, 1993

Amazing Book
I am an avid avid reader, especially about English Historical Fiction. I just finished this book,,,and of all the amazing authors I have read, including Phillipa Gregory and Margaret George, Anya Seton has taken first place in quality historical fiction. Here attention to detail and her development of 3 dimensional characters is unsurpased and I was torn between rushing through the book..and ...

Bruce Campbell

L.A. Weekly Books, 2001

My favourite Autibiography
Such a great read, I mustve recommended it to at least 100 people who have all enjoyed it. Such a fun time to be had making your way through this one. I love the emails from fans he has included too. Also the paperback has a bonus chapter updating you on his book tour from when the hardback came out.

These Is My Words: The Diary of Sarah Agnes Prine, 1881-1901 Arizona Territories211 reviews
Nancy E. Turner

Regan Books, 1999

Simply Fantastic.
Man, so glad I got this book. I pondered buying it for a few weeks as it sat in my cart and then I couldn't ignore the reviews any longer. I bought and am so glad I did. It's a page turner. Thought I wouldn't like the format being diary entries and all but found it just as engaging if not more than any book I've ever enjoyed. This book made me laugh and cry and want to know more every step of the ...

Beatles, John Lennon, ...

Chronicle Books, 2002

Great Book - Great stories.
The only negative is the size of the book. There should be a smaller hardcover or paperback edition. The content is superb and a great coffee table book, but it's difficult to curl up with this book in bed.

Seductive Poison254 reviews
Deborah Layton

Doubleday, 1998

MADNESS IN THE JUNGLE
I have been fascinated with the Jonestown story ever since the first reports of the massacre emerged in '78. The combination of elements; the jungle, a charismatic leader, poisoned flavor aid and an assasinated congressman all made for an irresistable tale. The action plays out more like a novel than a real life event. The cult story has been told several times, but always by outsiders. Now ...

Lucky Man212 reviews
Michael J. Fox

Ebury Press, 2003

A thought-provoking intimate account
I was amazed at what an excellent writer Michael J. Fox is -- his story was candidly written with insightful accounts of his incredible journey. I was also impressed that the proceeds from the book all go to research for a cure for Parkinson's disease. Way to go, Michael!

Make Your Own Damn Movie!: Secrets of a Renegade Director213 reviews
Lloyd Kaufman

L.A. Weekly Books, 2003

Inspiring and informative!
Even if you have already been through all the stages of filmmaking yourself, this book is an inspiring battle cry for the TRUE indie filmmaker. It also made me laugh out loud several times. I happened to be on the NYC subway when this happened and it made some of my fellow passengers scared of me. What other book about filmmaking can do that?
