a thoroughly moving natural history lesson for all ages
My 7 year old and I read this book together recently and I think that I learned as much as she did. I knew about reintroduction of wild wolves into Yellowstone but this book told the whole story. Get ready to be impressed with personal sagas of determination and bravery on the part of people who care about wild things. In 1973, while on a field trip in Jasper Park, Alberta, I saw two wild ...
Face to Face With Wolves (Face to Face with Animals)
Jim Brandenburg
National Geographic Children's Books
, 2008
The Arctic wolf inches towards you. Like you, he is torn between fear and curiosity. His instinct leads him towards the scent of your leather boots. Your instinct is to reach out to this curious white canine. Suddenly, he snarls, and you?re face to face with a wild animal. For years, photographer Jim Brandenburg has observed lone wolves by moonlight, Arctic wolves leaping onto ice floes, and wolves hunting and foraging for food. Packs of gray ...
The Six Brandenburg Concertos (Dover Miniature Scores)

The best things come in small packages
This is an excellent miniature edition of Bach's Brandenburg Concerti. It has an interesting and informative preface, including a small list of variants from the MS. Moreover, the price is right, and while the print is extremely small, the engraving is very clear, making the edition easily readable. This is a very good deal.

I normally hesitate to use this word, but...profound.
I'm a verbal type; I'd rather read a beautifully written description of a frozen lake than stare at a picture of it anytime. Even knowing that, my mother gave me this book several years ago, and I fell in love. I sat with it for hours, seeing, dreaming, and I still take it down often to do the same again. The photographer, Jim Brandenburg, set himself the challenge of taking only one photograph ...
The Monk Who Grew Prayer

wonderful introduction to prayer for toddlers
This is currently my 2 1/2 year old son's favorite book. It's a wonderful introduction to the daily cycle of prayers. Very beautifully illustrated. The story is very short and to the point (so that even the youngest child or the child with a short attention span can get through the book easily).

Very nice...
I, being a Bach fanatic, enjoy following along while listening to them on my stereo. Quite obviously, this book would be utterly useless to someone who cannot read music, but it is quite insightful for those who can. Although it is inadequate for performance (due to page turns, no separate parts, doesn't lie flat easily), it is very useful for just simply following along.

Beware!
I think Henry Porter is a superb author. I always look for his latest work. I almost bought Brandenburg Gate as I thought it was a new opus. Fortunately I checked excerpts before purchasing. This is his book Brandenburg with Gate added! If you have read Brandenburg, don't buy this one... On the upside, I hope he comes out with a real new book quickly.
White Wolf: Living With an Arctic Legend

It takes a village-the wolf still knows what we've forgotten
Brandenburg's experience shows the wolf as a loving and compassionate family-oriented animal that is as wild at heart as they come. These highly intelligent creatures seemed to stay a step ahead of their distant watchers. This leads to some hilarious encounters and a tear jerking ending. Follow this up with "Brother Wolf."

A very enjoyable read
I recommend this book to anyone interested in the middle ages and/or architecture, it provides the reader with good background information on the construction process and its history. Numerous first hand accounts are presented, along with a great number of color illustrations to guide the reader and liven the work up, usually a couple per page. It also includes a long reference section in ...

The Reformation and Rural Society: The Parishes of Brandenburg-Ansbach-Kulmbach, 1528-1603 (Cambridge Studies ...
C. Scott Dixon
Cambridge University Press
, 2002
This book examines the relationship between the Reformation movement of the sixteenth century and the rural population of Germany. Over ninety percent of the population lived in the countryside, and yet to date they have received scant attention. The experience of the Reformation by the average villager is described, and an attempt is made to understand the villagers on their own terms: their beliefs, their customs, and their forms of rule. The ...
Complete Brandenburg Concertos Transcribed for Piano Four Hands
Johann Sebastian Bach
,
Max Reger
Dover Publications
, 2000
A major keyboard composer of the early 20th century, Max Reger made numerous piano arrangements of Bach's works, including these magnificent 4-hand renderings of the Brandenburgs. More than reductions of the orchestral scores, they recast the original masterpieces in a truly pianistic way. Reproduced from a rare edition.

...simply wonderful.
Are you tired of looking at the nature photographs that al look the same? Obviously so was Brandenburg. This book is such a welcome departure from the rules and guidelines that plague photographers, and leave us with bland, rehashed photos that lack any sort of spark. It is simply wonderful.

This may be about silent cat thoughts, but.....
Molly Brandenburg is not only a gifted cartoonist and writer, but she is also a standup comedienne and it is this last means of communication that sets her fine little book apart. Though handsomely produced with high quality paper and clean design, the real beauty of this brief book of line drawings of cats with accompanying `cat excuses' is the amount of insight into cat behavior AND the ...

Biblical defense of Perfect Preservation of Scripture
Many books have been written about Bible versions. This book is about the underlying issue that must first be resolved: Did God preserve his words in absolute purity? Thou Shalt Keep Them is a thorough treatment on the theology of scripture preservation and answers this question with an unequivocal affirmative. There is a lot in here for everyone, but a lot of the book is "heavy" in the ...
