Among The Better Selections In The Field Of 'Minor Classics'
Camille is that rarest of all literary creations: a readable, enjoyable classic. This novel tells a good story about the sometimes tragic and scandalous and sometimes joyous life and fortunes of one Marguerite Gautier, a Parisian courtesan, and her lover Armand. The pace in this book doesn't drag, isn't too long, and rises well to the exact conclusion a reader anticipates. This is a frank, even ...

Gorgeous Book!
This book is absolutely beautiful. I bought it for my daughter, as one of her birthday gifts and she loved it. It was delivered still wrapped in original shrink-wrap so it stayed protected. The book itself is well made, with nice thick paper and several pages done in heavy vellum. I am considering buying a copy for myself. I really enjoyed finding out more about the artist (in the back of the ...

Wonderful story and illustrations
I loved the book and so did my granddaughters. They read it over and over. The story is very nice. They could identify with Camille. I liked the sub-theme about standing up for someone others pick on. I am disappointed only that I also bought another book with a different title but the exact same text.

What a pleasure it was reading this book to all three of my children. They hung on every word of this conscientious tale while imagination filled their eyes and heart. A grand addition to any book collection.

In this classic anthology of French drama, Stephen S. Stanton has assembled the nineteenth century’s finest “well-made plays”: The Glass of Water and A Peculiar Position by Eugene Scribe; Camille by Alexander Dumas fils; Olympe’s Marriage by Emile Augier; A Scrap of Paper by Victorien Sardou. In an incisive introduction, Stanton fully diagrams these works and their seminal influence on modern theater. Whether ...

An Erotics of Art
Way back when Susan Sontag was still an important critic, she said, "In place of hermeneutics we need an erotics of art." Well, here it is. The basic thesis of this book is simple, though its consequences are far-ranging. She maintains that aesthetic principles are rooted in the artist's perception of and ideas about nature, sex, and women, (which are inextricable because, as she says, "sex is ...

Food for thought...debate...and brawl
One of the most controversial figures in contemporary society is explosive critic, art historian, pop philosopher, and author Camille Paglia. Her newest collection of essays, VAMPS AND TRAMPS, includes sharpened swords drawn and abruptly driven into the current direction of gay activism, feminist thought, and academia. Her criticism is fierce, at once educated and adolescent, she is a rebel ...

Outstanding Art. Childish Politics
Nightmarish and beautiful. One of the most unique and hauntingly original artists of our time. Unfortunately the text that goes along with the art sounds like a stoned 16 year old punk talking about throwing a spanner into the "Republican War Machine". I will say that it made me laugh a little.

Camille Faure
What a fantastic resource and a pure delight in its designs, colours and techniques. One could prattle on forever. Keeping it short & sweet, the book is fabulous. The author & photographer did the ultimate honour to Camille Faure, the known members of the studio and all the unknown artists. Obviously this art does truely honour the French saying "Be original & be different". Fantastic!

36 Years Before Katrina
This book, the story of 1969's Hurricane Camille, is a breezy (yes, that word APPLIES) read which interweaves several plotlines -- the powerful force of a Cat 5 hurricane, the lives it touched and the tragedies which occurred, the will to survive, the peculiar and corrupt qualities of Louisiana politics, the ongoing civil rights movement of the time, and the surprisingly primitive nature of ...

Scientists will recognize themselves in this lively mystery
As a physicist who loves mysteries, I enjoyed this 2nd Minichino story tied to the Periodic Table for several reasons: first, its credible science core embedded in industrial and political intrigue; second, for the real-life portrayal of scientists, police detectives and assorted friends of Gloria Lamerino, a retired Physics Professor recycled into a sharp amateur detective; and finally for ...

Thanks to Dr. Cosby and Renee Pouissant we now have a fabulous book allowing elders, who have lived history, to tell us the truth about American History. Glorious gothic visions extend modern viewpoints
I generally read art history as a gentle way to access historical information in a setting less dry than the average non fiction text. Michael Camille's "Glorious Visions" is a cool, soothing, and soaring text which leaves you feeling self satisfied for reading something informative. Camille challenges the usual art historical judgment that gothic art was merely a stiff forerunner to the ...
