Campfire Ghost Stories3 reviews
Jo-Anne Christensen

Lone Pine Publishing, 2002

A Very Cool Collection
Many of the stories in Jo-Ann Christensen's ghost story collection are stories I don't believe that I have never heard of in my life. There are typical urban legends, such as The Hitchhiker, the tale of a ghostly girl who haunts the area of her death, or The Hook, the legendary tale of a murderous patient who escapes from a mental hospital. But, along with urban legends, there are very original ...

The Magic of Fire: Hearth Cooking: One Hundred Recipes for the Fireplace or Campfire9 reviews
William Rubel

Ten Speed Press, 2002

A Beautiful and Fundamental Book
Cooking in fire and coals wasn't important to me until I ate in a humble farmhouse kitchen in the mountains of the Veneto a few years ago. The flavors of woodsmoke in the roast squab and the wild-mushroom risotto were magical. They transformed simple, lean ingredients into something amazingly rich, complex, and soul-stirring. I was haunted for months after by the memory of those flavors. Then ...

Campfire Cooking6 reviews
G&R Publishing

CQ Products, 2005

The best!
Disregard the other reviews! As an camp outdoor cooking instructor, I have many years experience teaching cooking over a fire and have never found a more useful cookbook as this for my classes! Comprehensive and fun, this book has it all...pie iron recipes, in a skillet, on a stick, in a dutch oven and wrapped in aluminum...all meals are tasty and practical. I even give this book as an award each ...

Kids Campfire Book, The: Official Book of Campfire Fun (Family Fun)7 reviews
Jane Drake, Ann Love

Kids Can Press, Ltd., 1998

WOW!
I just bought this recently, and it is much better than I even expected. I have a bunch of camping books in my library, and this one is better than many more expensive adult books. It has great advice even for adults, but is indespensible for camping with kids. It teaches you how to build a fire safely, cooking on the fire, (great kid favorites recipes), dealing with bugs, how to pick a camp ...

The Curse of the Campfire Weenies: And Other Warped and Creepy Tales4 reviews
David Lubar

Starscape, 2007

Excellent young adult collection
As with the two previous "Weenie ..." Tales (see LAND OF THE LAWN WEENIES and INVASION OF THE ROAD WEENIES), this collection consists of thirty-five extremely short stories (average size is approximately five pages) that target children as the prime audience. The tales are fun to read and usually contain a subtle morality message or a question to ponder that is interwoven into the story. For ...

Cast Iron Cooking for Dummies10 reviews
Tracy Barr

For Dummies, 2003

Great cookbook
Not many people are used to cooking with cast iron, this is a great learning cookbook. I've used iron skillets for years and want to camp cook using a dutch oven. This cookbook will advance my knowledge without the quesswork. When your camping and hungry mistakes are not fun!

Camp Cooking: 100 Years9 reviews
The National Museum Of Forest Service History

Gibbs Smith, Publisher, 2004

A Must Have
Absolutely the best camp cookbook I have had yet. Recipes are simple and easy to understand. Ingredients can all be found at any supermarket, even small ones. The breakfast section alone is worth the price of the book.(These cooks really liked a big breakfast) The book is durable and there are enough recipes to last the average camper years before having to repeat a meal. Most meals will ...

Campfire Songs For Monsters (Sipping Spiders Through A Straw)5 reviews
Kelly Dipucchio

Scholastic Press, 2008

ooky, kooky, spooky
This is a terrific book. The rhymes are fun and icky and my kids just love it. What child wouldn't love a book that encourages burping, slurping and eating your boogies......?

NOLS Cookery (National Outdoor Leadership School) (National Outdoor Leadership School)11 reviews

Stackpole Books, 2004

KEY for expedition planning
This book is all you will ever need (and you WILL need it) to plan long trips. I find that planning food rations for long trips is one of the biggest logistical challenges. Not only can the planning be difficult, it can also be difficult to figure out which foods will keep your body energized and healthy over long periods of time (i.e. not Ramen). When you are on a high altitude expedition or ...

Creepy Campfire Tales Vol. One Halloween Camp Out6 reviews
James, D. Adams

OWL CREEK MEDIA Ltd, 2008

Perfect Book For Camping or Halloween Parties
This book is perfect to tell around campfires or to kids on hayrides during Halloween parties, if you live in the country like us. The stories are short enough to remember the main details for retelling, yet long enough when you read them by yourself they seem to really be happening. Also, there are no dumb endings or forced scenes where people do unrealistic things. Everything seems like ...

Spooky Campfire Stories (Take Along Series)2 reviews
Amy Kelley

TwoDot, 2000

A must-take-along for any camping trip!
My middle-school son has been taking this little book along to camp and on camping trips for several years now, and delights in scaring his tentmates with different stories every night. While a couple of the stories may be TOO frightening for the younger set, most are really terrific read-alouds for nature loving campers of all ages.

Wah-to-yah & the Taos trail: Prairie travel and scalp dances, with a look at los rancheros from muleback and ...10 reviews
Lewis Hector Garrard

University of Oklahoma Press, 1979

A young man's sojurn in the Old West
Lewis H. Garrard was an exuberant 17 year old tourist in the Old West of 1846-1847. He traveled down the Santa Fe Trail with a wagon train and stopped off at Bent's Fort on the Arkansas River of Colorado and spent a couple of months with the Cheyenne Indians and the traders and mountain men who lived around the fort. When Governor Charles Bent of New Mexico and twenty others were killed in Taos ...

Peter, Paul and Mary: Around the Campfire2 reviews

Alfred Publishing Company, 1998

Around The Campfire
This is a great songbook for PPM fans who play beginner/intermediate guitar. The arrangements are easy to follow (not a lot of barre chords) and not a lot of Eb--Bb7 stuff. There's even some tablature to songs like Blowin' In the Wind. The book has the same songs as the CD set with the same name. I really enjoy this book. Mike

Campfire Songs, 3rd (Campfire Books)9 reviews

Globe Pequot, 1998

Campfire Songs Review
This is what I expected - chock full of good old songs. Both the notes and chords are listed, which is great. And most of them use few chords, which is great for a beginner like me! The book is small in size, which is good, but that's also bad because it doesn't want to stay open - I use my capo to clip it open! Haven't used my capo much, so now I've found a good use for that, too.

Stories for Around the Campfire5 reviews
Ray Harriot

Campfire Publishing Company, 1986

A fun-filled, and scary read!
If you are interested in camping out in the woods, and telling ghost stories this book would be a great read. My favorite tale is "The Boy Who Cried Werewolf" which is a take-off of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" story. Harriot is effective at being both funny and scary with this story whose ending is reminiscent of shaggy-dog stories. The second half of the book has some pretty frightening ...

Fifty from the Trail: The Best Cowboy Cooking from a Timeless Land1 review
Marlboro

Phillip Morris USA, 2005

Cowboy Cooking
This is a great cook book for people that like to cook on the grill. Not just any grill, but a charcoal fueled grill. These recipes can easily be converted to be used on my ceramic grill. The recipes are what I would call 'manly man' and the book is full of 'meat 'n tater' recipes, i.e, Beef & Beer Stew, Steak & Eggs, Beef Barley Bake, stews, chili, biscuits, casserole, desserts, etc. Great ...

Campfire Cuisine: Gourmet Recipes for the Great Outdoors16 reviews
Robin Donovan

Quirk Books, 2006

best cookbook for camping available
Many years ago I went on my first camping trip with my husband. We entered beautiful Big Sur with everything we thought we needed; a tent, sleeping bag, camp stove and some propane. I forgot to bring food. I didn't even have a can opener. If only "Campfire Cuisine" had been available back then. The first two chapters cover all the gear and cooking supplies you need to bring and how to plan ...
