Finally! A system that works!
This is the most effective system for learning Chinese characters that I have found. Why I recommend this book: 1) Fully developed system for learning simplified characters Unlike other character learning books which try to shoe-horn the simplified characters into the semantics of the traditional ones, the memorization system in this book is rooted entirely in the simplified characters. ...

Suprisingly Interesting
Long car ride. 4 kids. Hey, let's torture the kids with John McCain... we packed along the iPods and gadgets, and figured WE (the adults) would listen to this while the kids ignored it. We popped in the first disc of the audio CD. After about 5 minutes, I thought, "there's just no way I can listen to this through the whole state of Utah!" McCain's voice is pretty monotone. Enough to put ...

exceptional gentlemen and the herd
Read "Revolutionary Characters" in combination with "Founding Brothers" for an excellent duo, and compare and contrast the two in their approaches and content. This is not a history of the revolution or a detailed analysis of our form of government. Wood has done what he claimed - a look at the character of the subjects, how that influenced their work, and how they were a reflection of, or an ...

Best Animation Timing & Breakdown Manual published so far.
When I went to animation college 10 years ago, there were NO books to instruct you on actually HOW to practice weight balance, mass and volume in your character animation tests. Plenty of old books existed with great artwork, with the exception of Preston Blair's book Cartoon Animation (The Collector's Series) and later on (after I graduated) the great Richard William's book The Animator's ...

Makeover or Workover?
This book, though initially designed for women, is still an excellent character challenge for guys as well. The self-examination steps can be very insightful, and very revealing, if you are careful and thoughtful to complete them. Sometimes I felt more that I was getting a spiritual "workover" as much as a "makeover"! This is a workbook you can refer to again and again, to check your progress ...

Just as the title of the book says, "Characters, Emotion & Viewpoint," every book has them, and many of them. This book explains exactly how to create various characters, the different emotions that they may convey throughout your story, and the different viewpoints that may be utilized to make your writing more effective. This is a "must have" for anyone thinking of writing fiction, as are all ...

Unique. Very helpful. Not intended as etymologic.
If you want to learn the signs along their shape, take this book. The book describes todays state of the signs, and their internal relations. As somebody of the reviewers said: "this editor fell prey to the seductive charm of cute graphic stories" Yes, and intentionally so. This book is for learning todays signs, gives relations and sometimes what is called "folk etymology", to make learning ...

Wealth of Information
I really like this book. I think it is a great resource in addition to your own research in other avenues (online, other books, etc). There is a ton of information in it and it's very well put together. The author gives very nice and concise information on different personalities, traits, disorders, careers, family and group dynamics...and a lot more. It is definitely a worthwhile book to ...

Awesome
One of the best books on writing I've found so far. Detailed, clear, encouraging. Other reviewers complain that it is too "formula." It's not- it's usable. Big difference. I say that it take a certain kind of genius to breakdown intuitive concepts into usable parts. Character is intuitive, it's all about understanding human beings and there is nothing simple about that. Buy it. You'll be ...

Great Book!
This book is exactly what I needed! I teach 4th grade and needed to work on character skills with my kids. I really felt like a lot of behavior issues came out of a lack of character skills. This book is very comprehensive and easy to use! Right now I only use the journal prompts, but it's been very effective in the classroom!

How to overcome the biggest obstacle to an ethical life: yourself!!!
+++++ This slim book by professor of ethics and philosophy Russell Gough is like a self-help guide for the soul, showing how we can lead better lives simply by being better people. Gough elaborates: "This book offers what I call mirroring, rather than a finger-pointing, approach. In one-to-one, conversational fashion, its primary goal is to encourage each of us to think about improving our ...

Love it!!
I have absolutely no educational background in Mandarin Chinese, and I love this book. It is reader-friendly and practical. It provides examples of how words are used in English to demonstrate and contrast how words are formed in Chinese. This book never promises anything that it doesn't fulfill. I look forward to purchasing the next book of this series. A+

I thought I knew what I was doing on the stage. I knew my lines, I didn't bump into the furniture, what else is there to know? Borrowed this book from a friend and it completely transformed me and everything I thought I knew about acting. Turns out I only thought I knew what I was doing.

Worth the cards?
This is basically a folder with to formats of character sheets and some cards. Worth $10? I'm not sure, but I like it. First the character sheets. One is the standard one found in the back of the players handbook. But I really like the horizontal one, which gives you more room on the table for your battles (or snacks). The cards are for your powers (at-will, encounter, and daily), for magic ...

I enjoy creating characters, but I've always had problems not defining them enough. When I first saw this book, I thought it would help me in my character creation process.
