Depth and breadth
I am a BS-RN student just starting my Pedi class. This is my favorite text yet. There is plenty of detail, and references are cited within the text. I think it's much easier to learn and retain information if you know the "why" behind the "what", and this text doesn't just gloss over the physiological reasons for nursing interventions like a lot of nursing texts unfortunately do. Thanks Dr. ...

Great Book, Big Help!
I loved this book. I have to say I was skeptical at first, as I felt the author was talking down to the reader, however, I was being over sensitive. As the mother of an adhd child, often a person gets over sensitive to percieved criticism when none is really there. Anyway, this book opened a whole new view for me on my child's behavior and the basic reasons behind it. At last I saw why ...
Infants, Children, and Adolescents (6th Edition) (MyDevelopmentLab Series)
Laura E. Berk
Allyn & Bacon
, 2007
Berk’s signature storytelling style invites students to actively learn beside the text’s “characters” who share their influential experiences and developmental milestones. Students are provided with an exceptionally clear and coherent understanding of child development, emphasizing the interrelatedness of all domains—physical, cognitive, emotional, and social—throughout the text narrative and in special features. ...

Parents NEED this, take it from a forest kid
I'm young enough that I still get called "kid" by my friends' parents, and when I saw the cover of this book in the store, with the kid holding a frog, I instantly felt like this book was about someone just like me. When I started reading, I felt so even more. I've lived in forests and next to creeks all my life, but today, I look around at my friends and I see that most of my generation ...

Review: Seigler --- How Children Develop, First Edition
I teach child psychology with this book, at a college. The book is topically arranged (not chronologically arranged), and, overall, the writing is excellent. Two chapters (Ch 12: The Family) and Ch. 13 (Peers) are not taught in my course; instead, students do chapter tests on those two for extra credit. The Instructor's Test Bank by Jill Saxon is mediocre, but was greatly improved for the Second ...

Outstanding
I entered a graduate level nursing class with nothing more than high school biology (that was decades ago) and was presented with the daunting task of reading the entire book. I wasn't sure about successfully completing the course until realizing that this textbook was one of the best I've ever come across. The material was well-organized and the text easy to follow. The authors made good use of ...

A Great Book If You Want An Intro to Special Education
I love this book! I purchased a used copy in 2001 to help prepare for my (then) upcoming Massachusetts State Teacher exam in special education, which I passed on my first try. It is a very useful source of information and contains a ton of facts. It presents special ed topics in a logical fashion and has a nice companion website. I practiced all the online questions since I had to learn a ...

WHAT A RUSH(DIE)!
If this book was described by 1001 readers, I think you'd get 10,001 different views of what they experienced. Some knowledge of the history of India & Pakistan before and after independence and the partition will be helpful. Perhaps some "-ism" (magical real(ism), coming-of-age(ism); post-modern(ism); stream of .....) reading would prepare you for this. But neither is required to enjoy it. ...

The other America indeed
Nice mix of anecdote and historical background on life in inner city America. Excellent insight into the everyday difficulties faced by families and some of the root causes. This book, though almost 20 years old, still has a message that needs to be heard.

child development and education book review
I was happy with the book. It arrived quickly and in great condition. My only issue is that it did not have the 3 CD's that come with new edition. I emailed customer service with my complaint and they sent me another book, but still without the CD's. After some investigation they figured out that the book they are advertising does not come with the CD's. I was dissappointed :(

By far one of my counseling textbook favorites.
Cole & Cole's work is by far one of my favorite textbooks. The reason? The authors methodically lay out child development from a biopsychosocial perspective, which is no small feat. They write with a thoroughness and efficiency that you will rarely find in a textbook. Their treatment of child development is evenhanded, not privilaging either the bio, psycho, or social perspectives.

Hard To Read Wealth of Children's Litature Course
If you plan to teach a children's literature course, then this book possesses nearly all of the information, history, and important milestones that you need...if you can get by the stilted language. It reads well for someone like me who studies/collects children's literature as a personal hobby; however, for the average reader? Get ready for a painful struggle. I would suggest using it in ...

This resource provides an overview of many conditions found in pediatric treatment. The reviews of developmental progressions of all ADLs, pre-writing, fine motor, gross motor, cognitive, and other skills are presented both in concise, outline form and in paragraph form for more details. Great resource for Child's' lit
The best way to study children's literature is to read actual children's books, not to study textbooks about them! The authors of this text are among the few that recognize this truth. Consequently the chapters are purposefully (and generally) short and to the point. Each chapter includes authors' recommendations as well as qualities to avoid in each genre. Appendices are informative (see the ...
