Building Bridges And Improving Therapy
Just wanted to give a big thumbs up to "A CBT Practitioner's Guide To ACT" by Joe Ciarrochi and Ann Bailey. They have done a superb job of building bridges between ACT and CBT, honoring and appreciating both models, and looking openly and honestly at areas of overlap and areas of differences, without judging either one as "better" or "superior" to the other. They also show how you can use ACT ...

A magnificent book
This book is more complete than I thought! In my modest opinion it's magnificent. It has a great practical value and will be very helpful in my work as therapist. And it's exactly the kind of help I was looking for! This publication will be a guidance not only for me but for all of my coworkers here in my province, since I'll make sure that this useful work and his author be of everyone's ...

Great for psychotherapists
I was extraordinarily impressed with this book. As a Psychology professor who greatly values a solid understanding of behavioral principles for my clinical graduate students, I've been unable to find a primary text that conveys them in a succint and relevant fashion. Existing books on applied behavior analysis contain too much material that is irrelevant to clinical behavior therapy, go into ...

A Review by a Patient
The intended audience for this book are therapists, but the information is laid out in language that is accessible to the lay reader. It gives a very informative overview of what is involved and expected in cognitive-behavioral therapy in particular for those suffering from bipolar disorder. As a patient, I found it useful to read, even though it is not a self-help book. There is a workbook by ...

Are you an Aspie?
I find it hard to believe there is only one review for this book! I am an undiagnosed Aspie and I found this book to be beyond belief. OK, I haven't read the whole book and I've started about 5 others on AS. I guess it comes with the territory. What I am saying is that if you're an Aspie and you want to see how your mind works, in words, right before your eyes then take a look at just ...

A Tremendous Contribution
Having been trained in the 70's as a behavior therapist, I moved away from BT in the 80's as I became disillusioned with the mechanistic quality of the approach. Eifert and Forsyth's book beautifully brings the best of behavior therapy together with a more humanistic and interpersonal focus to provide in ACT a truly new paradigm. The so-called "third wave" of behavior therapy incorporates much of ...

A Brilliant Book by a Brilliant Individual
I was once in the cafeteria having lunch with some friends, when Sir Michael Rutter came in for a moment to get a sandwich. One of our group leaned over and said, "That man's written more books than I've read. See, he doesn't even have time to sit down for lunch!" It was said in jest, but my friend had a point: Mike has been re-creating several fields of psychology and psychiatry since the ...

Excellent book -- well worth the read
I loved this book! It made so much sense of the chatter that goes on in my head. Like Eckhart Tolle, Cohen-Posey teaches people to become conscious of how they identify with over-bearing beliefs that keep them trapped in destructive mental/emotional patterns. She breaks the ego down into controlling, protective, pushy, people-pleaser, and critical voices, making them easy to recognize. The ...

What a book!!
I am using this textbook in a class and it is a whopper. Wonderful pictures, easy to read, clear colors and understandable. I've been working in prisons for 5 years and this book makes a lot of sense. You ought to read their sections on women in prison and on probation. I loved the parts on geriatric prisoners (old cons) and the death penalty. And it is easy to read. More!
