Managing Addictions: Cognitive, Emotive, And Behavioral Techniques6 reviews
F. Michler Bishop

Jason Aronson, 2001

A magnificent book
This book is more complete than I thought! In my modest opinion it's magnificent. It has a great practical value and will be very helpful in my work as therapist. And it's exactly the kind of help I was looking for! This publication will be a guidance not only for me but for all of my coworkers here in my province, since I'll make sure that this useful work and his author be of everyone's ...

Cognitive development, egocentrism, and adolescent contraceptive knowledge, attitudes, and behavior3 reviews
Raymond E Crossman

s.n.], 1991

What a book!!
I am using this textbook in a class and it is a whopper. Wonderful pictures, easy to read, clear colors and understandable. I've been working in prisons for 5 years and this book makes a lot of sense. You ought to read their sections on women in prison and on probation. I loved the parts on geriatric prisoners (old cons) and the death penalty. And it is easy to read. More!

James P. Krehbiel

A practical resource for better living
For me, "Stepping Out Of The Bubble" was reminiscent of the renowned books of author, M. Practicing Licensed Professional Counselor and Nationally Certified Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist and author of "Stepping Out Of The Bubble", James Krehbiel ...

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Bipolar Disorder6 reviews
Monica Ramirez Basco, A. John Rush

The Guilford Press, 1996

Excellent source of info on one aspect of bipolar treatment
This book should be read by anyone trying to optimize treatment of bipolar disorder through the use of cognitive-behavioral therapy. In fact it should be read both by patients and by therapists and possibly psychiatrists too. The book is well written, well organized, and fairly easy to understand. It is not intended to be a comprehensive guide to surviving bipolar disorder- if the reader wants ...

Jr., James P. McCullough

A Patient's Look at a Therapist's Manual
This is one of the few books about depression treatment that is very specifically about chronic depression. Chronic depression here includes minor depression alone, major depression that never ends, and a variety of combinations of major and minor depression that all fall into the chronic category. Functional (or dysfunctional) similarities between early and late onset types are illustrated. ...

CRC, 1999

The Most Valuable AI Book by a Great Writer!
The book by Amit Konar is a new addition to the disciplines of Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing. I am greatly charmed with the presentation style of the author. Deborah Roth Ledley, Brian P. Marx, ...

The Guilford Press, 2005

A must-read for practitioners of cognitive behavioral therapy
This is one of those books that I regret not having when I was beginning with cognitive behavioral therapy. The authors synthesize all the crucial information to help therapists make CBT work. Readers will dramatically increase their comfort, confidence, and outcomes with delivering CBT. I used this book with graduate students I supervised and they loved it!

COGNITIVE-BEHAVIORAL THERAPY OF SC2 reviews
David G Kingdon

Psychology Press, 1994

A Review
This book is clear, concise, and perspicacious. It brakes down the elements of schizophrenia and its symptoms into understandable, although exaggerated, human experiences. This book would be excellent for any friends and family members of people with schizophrenia, or other psychotic disorders. Kingdon and Turkington describe the intellectual process of psychosis in terms that allow the lay ...

Interviewing Strategies for Helpers: Fundamental Skills and Cognitive Behavioral Interventions3 reviews
Sherry Cormier, William H. Cormier

Brooks/Cole Publishing Company, 1997

A Textbook Worth Buying and Keeping!
This is by far the most useful textful I have ever used. As a graduate student in psychology, I have often used this text as both a training resource for my education and a problem solving guide in my clinical work. Written in language that you don't need a degree to understand, this book presents clinically applicable strategies for working with both children and adults in a variety of ...

Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment for Adult Survivors of Childhood Trauma: Imagery, Rescripting and Reprocessing ...2 reviews
Constance V. Dancu

Jason Aronson, 1999

Respectful therapy
This treatment method provides a respectful way to help clients deal with painful traumatic experiences. Soundly grounded in cognitive therapy, the process employs elements of hypnotherapy in that it moves people out of a purely cerebal, cognitive, logical mode into a more right brain, image laden, metaphorical process which facilitates deep healing. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, and a ...

John S. March, Karen Mulle

A must have treatment manual
John March is author of one of the best treatment manuals I have ever laid my eyes on. He and Mulle have laid out in very clear fashion what steps to follow in treating OCD in a child or adolescent. They add tips on what to do when problems arise and include gems of clinical knowledge that make this a must have resource for anyone treating OCD. While the book is about treating children and ...

Principles of Behavioral and Cognitive Neurology2 reviews
M.-Marsel Mesulam

Oxford University Press, USA, 2000

An Outstanding Review of the Neurological Basis of Behavior
I first became aware of M.-Marsel Mesulam's work at a Harvard sponsored Behavioral Neurology conference more than a decade ago. Several of the co-authors of this book including David Bear, Antonio Damasio, Hanna Damasio, and Elliot Ross also presented at that conference. I obtained a copy of the first edition of Principles of Behavioral Neurology shortly afterwards. The goal of the original ...

Roadblocks in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy: Transforming Challenges into Opportunities for Change2 reviews

The Guilford Press, 2006

A comprehensive review about resistence
There are many CBT books, but rare ones for discussing the resistence problem in using CBT. In this book, the reader can find various contributions from prominent figures, like Freeman, Wells, Leahy and more, in discussing the difficulties in using CBT with solutions offered. It needs reading and re-reading to capture the content, while the points there are valid and very useful to experienced ...

Neurons and Networks: An Introduction to Behavioral Neuroscience, Second Edition2 reviews
John E. Dowling

Belknap Press, 2001

Great Introductory Book
A pleasantly written introductory text with elegant illustrations by Harvard Professor John Dowling. Currently enrolled in his behavioral neuroscience class, I find this text captures the essential details for those with college-level physics and biochemistry backgrounds. As each chapter builds from the previous, it is recommended for private study as well.

The Physiological Bases of Cognitive and Behavioral Disorders2 reviews
Lisa L. Weyandt

Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, Inc., 2005

At last
At last a physiological psychology textbook that focuses on clinical disorders! I have searched for years for a book such as this one that has great images of the brain, is written in an understandable fashion, and devotes numerous chapters to disorders such as schizophrenia, addiction, and autism. It seems that most physiological psychology textbooks include only one chapter on clinical ...

Genes and Behavior: Nature-Nurture Interplay Explained3 reviews
Michael Rutter

Wiley-Blackwell, 2006

A Brilliant Book by a Brilliant Individual
I was once in the cafeteria having lunch with some friends, when Sir Michael Rutter came in for a moment to get a sandwich. One of our group leaned over and said, "That man's written more books than I've read. See, he doesn't even have time to sit down for lunch!" It was said in jest, but my friend had a point: Mike has been re-creating several fields of psychology and psychiatry since the ...

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Adult Asperger Syndrome (Guides to Individualized Evidence-Based Treatment)2 reviews
Valerie L. Gaus

The Guilford Press, 2007

Are you an Aspie?
I find it hard to believe there is only one review for this book! I am an undiagnosed Aspie and I found this book to be beyond belief. OK, I haven't read the whole book and I've started about 5 others on AS. I guess it comes with the territory. What I am saying is that if you're an Aspie and you want to see how your mind works, in words, right before your eyes then take a look at just ...
