Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance

Obama, a remarkable generalizer
I have rarely been so privileged to read a book such as DREAMS OF MY FATHER. Obama reveals his thought processes as he struggled to find his place in the larger sicial fabric. Were that all, this would not be so great a book. But, he describes his maturation in thinking as he interacted and learned from others. And, while personally growng, he was able to empathize with others from virtually all ...

They call it the number one career book of all time, mainly because it released annually. Parachute is really a primer in career exploration. Other books add a ton of value after you get this foundation. Because of that, Bolle's is timeless for job seekers of all kinds. I feel that his book updated each year to meet the current trends in society is critical. He needs to address those issues, like ...

Brown Bear's back!
I remember reading this charming story to my own kids and also to my preschool class. Now it's been reissued in board book format, artistically illustrated, and every bit as enjoyable. This is a perfect book for teaching color and animal names, in a catchy rhyming format. Each page foretells what the animal and color will be on the next. Recommended for reading to babies and for beginning ...

Thank you for the Purplicious!
After reading all reviews I ordered the book for my 'almost 4' years old daughter. I was not disappointed. The book is beautiful, not 'too long' and to the point. My daughter agreed that other girls were not nice to Pinkalicious, was supporting Pinkalicious all the way thru the book and telling that she loves Pink too and was very happy when Pinkalicious finally found a good friend.

Favorite!
This is my daughter's (age 3-1/2) favorite book! She can "read" it to us almost verbatim because we've read it so many times. It has inspired us to make our own Pinkalicious cupcakes, although we don't eat as many as the book's main character. I know some people complain that it has a negative spin on healthy food, but my daughter already has the concept of good food versus junk food, so for ...

The set only has the first 5 books, but has gorgeous color illustrations
This boxed set of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House of the Prairie series of books only contains Books 1-5 [a puzzle indeed, why couldn't the publishers have made the entire series available?]. The books in this set, in order are: Little House in the Big Woods, Farmer Boy, Little House on the Prairie, On the Banks of Plum Creek, and By the Shores of Silver Lake. Though it is not the ...

Inspiring, powerful stuff ... and a must read.
I purchased this immediately after reading "Miracle at St. Anna" by the same author ... and after googling his name. What a great, inspirational, moving tribute (to his mom and his family) and story (for us all). This, along with movies like American History X, should be mandatory reading/viewing in high schools all across this country. Can diverse peoples get along? To quote Sarah Palin ...

Should be Required Reading!
This is a truly outstanding book. You don't have to like or agree with Malcolm X to learn from it. Martin Luther King Jr. was undoubtedly the more effective civil rights leader, and King's thought in many ways is more profound. But without Malcolm X, the true depth and meaning of the black American experience cannot be fully grasped, with all the brutality of racism - the injustice delivered ...
