Great for my needs
I highly recommend this book if you a) like to cook and b) are suffering from the average working parent's harried and chopped up schedule. This is not a slowcooker cookbook or a "make it in minutes" cookbook. Many of these recipes take some time investment. However, the recipes clearly state when a portion of the prep can be done ahead (sometimes even a day) and most of the recipes "hold ...

I recently bought this cook book and my three kids and I have been having a lot of fun exploring the recipes! At first I was a little scared that we wouldn't have access to the Japanese ingredients needed for some of the recipes but quickly discovered that the authors suggest alternatives for each and every item that may be hard to find in your neck of the woods. (i.e. A small Japanese onion can ...

A Favorite Vegetarian Cookbook
I love this cookbook. The well-thought-out recipes are easy to follow, are not overly reliant on soy, and always produce tasty results. Written for ovo-lacto-vegetarians, the recipes include suggestions for making the dishes suitable for vegans. One of my favorites is eggplant "meatballs". This is great dish to take to potlucks or to serve as appetizers. When serving them away from home, I ...

As a active minister, I am always looking for tools to make my ministry better and more practical. This is a great help in that direction. The wiersbees have taken a uncomfortable subject and added great insight and useful suggestions in the area of grief counseling and the conducting of funerals. It is a bit dated, but very worth any price to acquire

Catholic?
I bought this book in a somewhat needy state of mind as my Mom had just died recently. I wanted something consoling, helpful, informative, and imbued with my Roman Catholic faith. This book didn't do it for me. I found it to be mostly psych talk with Scripture and references to certain Church teachings thrown in. My other question/concern about it is that I can't figure out the author - is he ...

Death vis-a-vis Zen Simplicity
Thich Nhat Hanh's little book on death is a magnificent treatment of the topic intended to be read by the widest possible audience possible. The balance of simplicity and depth here is really quite remarkable. It's as if he has spent his life making Buddhism more understandable... The book rotates around one central image, that is of wave and water. The problem with the wave is that it ...

Yummy comfort food
Everything I have made from this book has been delicious! Most of these aren't recipes for your diet, but they are great for company or when you can use a splurge. A different reviewer asked "How many "Moms" do you know who make Cajun Macque Choux?". Well, meet one. I made this easy dish when my in-laws were in town - corn, bacon, bell peppers, tomatoes, shrimp, cream. All prepared with a knife, cutting board, and one very large skillet. A wonderful validation of various grief feelings!
I didn't discover this book until 4-5 months after my mother died earlier this year, but it was definitely a Godsend. It's the first grief book I've read that made perfect sense to me from the moment I began reading it and believe me I've read or skimmed through many grief books since my family began dying around me in 1991. I was raised to be aware that I would be faced with the death of people ...
