The Gift of Dyslexia82 reviews
Ronald D. Davis, Eldon M. Braun

Perigee Trade, 1997

This Book Was God's Gift to Us...!
My now 12 yo son was discovered to have dyslexia, just 2 years ago (after years of frustration in trying numerous "how to read" approaches, to no avail). He was homeschooled from the beginning, and though I'd successfully taught his older siblings to read, this kid stumped me... every attempt to teach him (no matter what methodology was used), resulted in both of us dissolving into tears of ...

Assessment in Speech-Language Pathology: A Resource Manual19 reviews
Kenneth G. Shipley, Julie G. McAfee

Every SLP Needs This!
I could not function without my "Speech Bible." Every once in a while when I need a quick refresher on certain topics, this book provides me with the information I need. I also like to use their forms when I do informal testing/observations of children.

The Verbal Behavior Approach: How to Teach Children With Autism and Related Disorders12 reviews
Mary Barbera, Tracy Rasmussen

Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 2007

From a Mother's Perspective
As a mother of three children on the spectrum, I want to share how much this book has changed our lives forever. Hope is a powerful feeling and one given to us from this book. We were going along following the "standard" recommendations of the professionals working with our children on the spectrum without much change for over the past two years. Sure, we had some changes, but not like the ...

All Cats Have Asperger Syndrome75 reviews
Kathy Hoopmann

Jessica Kingsley Pub, 2006

A Wonderful Book for Explaining Aspergers
All Cats have Asperger's Syndrome is a fantastic book for helping your child understand Aspergers. It's also a great read for a public school or church class that is trying to understand a student with AS. My 9 yo Aspie grandson read it to his Sunday School class, and all of the kids were much more open and caring towards him once they understood what he was dealing with and why he sometimes ...

This book makes very interesting reading not only as a text book, but as general reading material. It makes the reader think about how communication is affected by culture and opens the mind to deeper thoughts about who we are.

When My Worries Get Too Big! A Relaxation Book for Children Who Live with Anxiety7 reviews
Kari Dunn Buron

Autism Asperger Publishing Company, 2006

What an excellent tool!
This book is an excellent tool for children having diffiulties controlling their emotions. The visual thermometer and the "social story" makes it very helpful to assist these children to learn how to respond to their feelings/emotions more appropriately. My four year old likes to look at his thermometer and read the story every time he has reached a "5". It's been very helpful for him.

Tracy Terrell, Erwin Tschirner, ...

McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages, 2004

The American Sign Language Handshape Dictionary22 reviews
Richard A. Tennant, Marianne Gluszak Brown

Gallaudet University Press, 1998

The CD alone is worth 5 stars
I know it says this has a DVD, however it only plays on a computer. So I'll call it a CD. The CD alone is why I gave it a 5 star rating. I use this almost everyday as I study for my ASL class. You can increase the screen size which is good for me since sometimes it's hard for me to see the fingers. You can also go in slow motion. I also find that this CD has the newer signs unlike many of ...

Workbook/Laboratory Manual to accompany Kontakte: A Communicative Approach5 reviews
Tracy D Terrell, Erwin Tschirner, ...

McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages, 2004

It isn't so bad afterall
After using this as part of my learning comprehension in the class, my professor says she can see a difference in my knowledge of speaking German. I would refer this book to a friend. It took a while to get to me because it was from overseas so you may want to order it in advance if it's for a class.

My Book Full of Feelings: How to Control and React to the Size of Your Emotions3 reviews
Amy Jaffe and Luci Gardner

Autism Asperger Publishing Company, 2006

Great idea for helping understand both feelings and reactions.
Great for using at home with kids up to elementary school. I gave it as a gift and it was extremely useful. Gives examples of what might be causing the feelings. Gives a standard language for both parents and children to be clear about which feeling is being discussed. The definitions of big, medium and small feelings with discussion of how to keep reactions at a similar level has been a ...

Practical strategies for dyslexia
Ms. Stowe has managed to be both concise and thorough. The interviews with adolescent and adult persons diagnosed with dyslexia bring the more academic aspects of the work to ...

DeAnna Horstmeier

Woodbine House, 2004

Teaching Math to People With Down Syndrome and Other Hands-On Learners: Basic Survival Skills (Topics in Down Syndrome)
This is an awesome book! It gives you a step by step proven method that is almost fail-safe for teaching any concrete learner to understand math and math concepts. The only problem with this book is the misconception that the title relays in that it is not just for children with Down Syndrome. It is the method I use to teach all developmentally delayed children. I recommend it to everyone with ...
