Snatch a little purity
Here's a vote for Paul Simon being appointed Poet Laureate. It would be perfect: Under Barack Obama's tenure as president the Library of Congress chooses someone equally unusual and gifted to be the eloquent voice of this nation. Lyrics 1964-2008 is just that: The lyrics to Simon's songs. The number of words here is staggering. You forget just how prolific he has been. More impressive is how ...

Life of a Beatle
Most beloved public figures have many facets -- some of them nasty, some of them pleasant and admirable. Most biographies either focus on the good, or the bad. But fortunately, Philip Norman is making a valiant effort to show, if not all of John Lennon's facets, then as many of them as possible. Having explored the Beatles and their impact on a generation, Norman narrows his focus down to ...

Great Read!
It's a captivating in depth look at how lucky on many different levels Slash has been to date. I enjoyed reading this book and I appreciated his candor, but it left me wondering just how great GNR could have become if not for their excesses in not only substance abuse and outlandish behavior, but lavish spending on meaningless items in order to appease one member of the band. It also makes me ...

Superb achievement from a towering musical talent- "HITMAN" by David Foster
For over forty years, David Foster has been making great music. When I read this book, I passed it on to other members of my MainStar entertainment staff and our artists. I am beyond enthusiastic! At MainStar we write music with the aim of enriching the lives of all who hear our music as we rise to the top of the charts. As Founder and CEO of MainStar, it wasn't enough to just pass a copy of ...

Mindblowing!
This book is amazing. Great photographs, and having the band telling their story is fantastic. Despite being assembled years after Joe Strummer's death, he is a dominant voice in the book. I would compare the style of the book to The Beatles Anthology book, although unlike The Beatles book, The Clash tell their story album by album and tour by tour as opposed to year by year. You'll love the ...

Terrific Book....Even better than I expected !!!
I want to say first off I have been a big fan of Alabama ever since 1979 when I first heard 'My Home's In Alabama' so I had extremely high hopes for this book and I wasn't disappointed at all...as a matter a fact it's even better than I could have imagined. The book starts out with Randy going for his morning drive around Lookout Mountain to start his day.....His and his daughter's dogs all go ...

What an amazing book!
This book exceeded my expectations. I had just finished 'Slash' and thought that this book could not come close to it. I was wrong! It's amazing the lifestyle these guys had. Not only do you get an inside look at all the craziness, but you also feel like you get to know them personally. Awesome book!

An eye opener
Highly Recommended for the musician and nonmusician alike. It's nice to hear the story from the source, in their own words. Clapton is exceptionally truthful and totally upfront in his efforts are telling you who he is and what he's about. As a teenager, I totally worshipped Clapton and Hendrix, the Beatles and the 'Stones. Therefore, you develop in your mind a perception of what their ...
Hallelujah Junction: Composing an American Life
John Adams
Farrar, Straus and Giroux
, 2008
John Adams is one of the most respected and loved of contemporary composers, and ?he has won his eminence fair and square: he has aimed high, he has addressed life as it is lived now, and he has found a language that makes sense to a wide audience? (Alex Ross, The New Yorker ). Now, in Hallelujah Junction , he incisively relates his life story, from his childhood to his early studies in classical composition amid the musical and social ferment ...

Must Have Item for Zeppelin Fans
This book is incredible. The photos alone make it worth owning, but added to that are interviews with other bands, musicians talking about Led Zeppelin and my favorite part, the history of each of their tours. What happened specifically on that tour? See behind the scenes and also see the memorabilia from each specific tour (t-shirts, posters, ticket stubs). I also wrote about it on my blog, ...

Pity the movie's been delayed; in the mean time, the book's a treasure
I scrambled to read Steve Lopez' book prior to the upcoming movie release. I was disappointed to hear that Dreamworks had pushed it back to Spring 2009. "Budget reasons" were supposedly behind this very late move - so late, in fact, that I'm seeing ads all over and magazine story tie-ins left and right. Looks like the studio was more than halfway pregnant for a Fall release. It's got to be a ...

I love scrapbooks
I was pleasantly surprised with this book. It did have a lot of pictures I hadn't seen before. I also like how it included personal drawings, notes and even a spoken word CD with Kurt. I think it was well worth the money. I must say that I left this book feeling a little bit more sad than I had reading all the others. Sorry, I'm not very good at reviewing. All I can say is I loved it, great ...

This book is just perfect. It basically what I was expecting, tons of photos from one of the best shows I have attended ever! It really takes you back to that night when you saw the concert live. Each photo has the date and city where the photo was taken. It's a great book for anybody that went to the concert or is a Madonna fan.
