The Standard
If you're a music student at almost any major school (I just finished my undergraduate at Indiana University, for example) you'll most likely need to take a course that uses these CD's as part of its history survey. For that purpose, this set is an excellent collection. These, with their companion Norton Anthology of Western Music, and in conjunction with Grout/Palisca's History of Western ...

Very good score!
These concerti, are probably the most performed, and most famous concerti in the world, especially, the grande, and the hard as ever Emperor concerto. This score, is very good, because it contains the table of contents, the people whom Beethoven dedicated the concerto to and an added bonus, his cadenza for the first 4 concertos. Buy this book, it is worth your $15.00!

Think of this CD as an acoustical balm for your nervous system to be played whenever you feel the need for peace, stillness, and tranquility." - From the liner notes The hurried pace of overcommitted lives and manic striving is a breeding ground for stress and disease. ...

Zenith of piano literature
This one of the most challenging works in piano literature. Unlike piano concerto 3, majority the main theme is with the orchestra. Therefore the CD is a must to play this concerto. The quality of the product is impeccable. The CD portion is divided into 50+ tracks for easy access when practicing. If you are thinking about attacking this monumental piece of art, I cannot tell you anything ...

Excellent
Excellent product..one of the standard anthologies available for studying Music History. One caveat, if you're using Hanning's Concise Grout as a companion text, be sure to match the correct edition of the anthology + recordings to the correct edition of the text.
Music for Piano and Orchestra: An Annotated Guide

Maurice Hinson

A Book For Serious Musicians
As with the author's other works (Guide To The Pianist's Repertoire, etc.) this book is comprehensive and probably the best one of its kind. Not only are the mainstays of the concerto repitoire included, but also virtually every concerted work for piano and orchestra that has been published. The amount of literature in this genre is huge, and the author tackles it all with information galore. ...

This book is great!
This is a great Vivaldi book. Most of the concertos have similar melodies, but have entirely different moods. There are so many concertos that it takes a long time to play them all. I believe it is a great buy and it has comments at the end of the book telling you how the pieces were obtained, etc.

Very enjoyable orchestral experience
I love the Music Minus One concept and as a violinist trying to regain former skills, I find it to be very enjoyable. I really like the fact that the piece is presented at the regular tempo, as well as at a 20% slower rate to give you a chance to be successful!

The best available score of "The Four Seasons"
This is no doubt the best music score Dover Publications (which generally publishes high quality reprints of older editions) has ever put out. Not only is the score of this set of Vivaldi's Op. 8 concertos--consisting of the "Four Seasons" and eight other works--freshly edited from a computer database version of the 1725 first edition by Dr. Eleanor Selfridge-Field, but it is beautifully typeset ...

Advanced Music Appreciation, but worth the effort
Mozart's K. 622 is certainly one of his greatest concerti. If you have listened to this work several times, or simply want a better understanding, Lawson's book is ideal. Although I am not a clarinetist, this book has profoundly shaped my listening and appreciation of this masterpiece. True to this Cambridge series, the concerto is put into its historical context. Did you know that the ...

2 Great Russian Concertos
A must to an aspiring virtuoso's repertoire. Rachmaninoff was the peak of piano style and complexity, his first big hit being the second piano concerto. Tchaikovsky wrote a magnificent virtuosic piano concerto included in this book. You can hear the opening bars almost anywhere even today. From the lengthy, intimidating cadenza of the first movement, to the last over-hand octave run, it is a ...

Very nice...
I, being a Bach fanatic, enjoy following along while listening to them on my stereo. Quite obviously, this book would be utterly useless to someone who cannot read music, but it is quite insightful for those who can. Although it is inadequate for performance (due to page turns, no separate parts, doesn't lie flat easily), it is very useful for just simply following along.

Top Notch Concertos
Three of the greatest concertos for violin ever composed are in this volume. With concertos by Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky, it is impossible to determine which is superior of the three. Each is such a masterwork that it has to stand by itself. Dover's edition is easy to read, clearly printed, and as usual is inexpensive. By the way, there is but one other violin concerto that is in ...

What to say...This book contains the 3 most beautiful peace of music ever written;if you had the luck to listen to them you'll know why. And if you're a musician, you'll want to play them (or at least a part of them, since they're treacherous hard to play..).And what's the best way to fully understand a concert in its greatness, if not the full score?
