Video Communications: The Whole Picture (CMP Telecom & Networks)

Leaves No Stone Unturned
The authors leave no stone unturned regarding video communications. This book covers everything from the 26 pound picturephone launched at the 1964 New York World's Fair, squeezing video over the equivalent of 100 telephone lines, to the current and future uses of mobile video transmitting over invisible digital wireless high speed technologies. I found the book to be well thought out and ...

Getting it right - an accurate look into the Net's future
While reading The Network Nation, I had to constantly refer to the publication date on the inside cover, 1978. Indeed, I was reading the revised edition dating back to 1993, but that didn't lessen my amazement. TNN was visionary when it was first published, but it is without question the defining document and perhaps standard reference work for the field of Computer Mediated Communication, ...

Stunningly Relevant
This book is a godsend. It includes discussions on Cognitive and Social Constructivism/Sociocultural theory (i.e both Piaget AND Vygotsky) which are very accessible. It also addresses issues regarding online discussions and debates as well as design strategies for online collaboration systems.

Best book on Skype add-ons and tweaks to get to to work the way you want
Skype is a simple to implement Voice Over IP (VOIP) solution for the average computer user. If you are tired of long-distance charges, want to be able to tell when someone is online and you can call them, chat in a secure, encrypted environment, engage in video chatting with others, or call someone who has a regular phone system at substantially reduced rates then Skype may be the product you ...

Invaluable book - a must have!
Like many people looking for a book or information on web conferencing I was frustrated in my search by the surprising lack of available material. Needless to say I was thrilled when my search ended having come across "The Web Conferencing Book..." and was happier still when I found the book to be as an informative and engaging read as it is. Extremely comprehensive, The Web Conferencing Book ...

Practical and a little before its time
A sound summary of IBM's prescient Person-to-Person development in the late 1980s; makes some of the Peer-to-Peer (P2P) ideas seem quite old-fashioned - but then someone who's been using e-mail since the late 1970s and instant messaging (on IBM VM internal systems) since the dawn of time gets a lot of deja-vu feelings these days. Easy to read - and well worth trawling through for people working ...

Thorough, well-written and easy to understand
I disagree with the prior reviewer's absolute pan of the book. While I agree that much of the material is obvious (NetMeeting is a very intuitive application), it presents all aspects of the product, in an understandable, readable and even witty way. This book is probably not for the hacker who can pick up an application like this and push it to the max in one hour. It could have gone into ...

Perfect! Just What I Needed.
This book was great. I'm new to WebEx, in fact new to web conferencing. I was a little intimidated at first, but got through my first few web conferences without any problems. (The Webex interface is really simple and intuitive.) What this book did was empower me with the knowledge of how to run really effective meetings online. Yes, it covers the basics well, but the real value was in ...

Excellent Book for Exchange 2000!
I bought this book when it first came out, and we used it as our guide to implement Exchange 2000 for our 3,500-employee company (7 domestic sites / 3 int'l sites). We just completed our migration last week and I don't think we could have done it without this book! Not sure what the other reviews were referencing since the time I bought this book (possibly SharePoint which we did not implement), ...
