Couldn't be better!
I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Not a bad page in the bunch. I loved all the twists and turns, even the ones I saw coming. I loved its "fairy tales", and the way the whole book seemed just a bit far-fetched like a fairy tale. Great characters and a good pace. I'll remember this one for a long time. I'll be looking for more by this author.

I was expecting less.....
After reading SO SO many 5 star reviews and then the few sprinkled here and there that were less than stellar, I was expecting this cookbook not to wow me. I thought the 5 star reviews were from fans that would love anything PW put out, no matter what it was, and that the people who were not impressed were probably the ones who had their feet on the ground about the book. But uh.....I LOVE the ...

Going downhill...
Ugh! This book was a waste of my time. I understand trying to be in the now & to talk about relevant current events within fiction (especially a series), but this was just dreadful! I used to LOVE the Alex Cross novels by Patterson! I couldn't wait until a new one came out. But lately he's been pumping them out like every two months and they have gotten worse and worse. This had nothing to ...

Rediscovering Polk
"A Country of Vast Designs" is an excellent reminder of how a well researched and well written book can illuminate what was an otherwise dark and often forgotten piece of the American landscape. Merry's detailed and colorful story telling add depth, perspective and entertainment. For example, his account of the Democratic nomination of 1844 reminds us how crafty our nineteenth century ...

Thank Goodness for People like Kristof and WuDunn
"Women hold up half the sky" is an ancient Chinese proverb, which is the basis of this book. Women are the most under utilized resource in third world countries. By bringing you personally into each of the girl's lives, and describing in great detail each story as it unravels, you become entwined in their circumstance. You wonder if each one lives, dies or prospers through their terrifying story. ...

Great book
I thought the book was a good read on Ralph Stanley. He is an icon. Although it did seem like he tried to blame all his troubles on someone else, which kind of surprised me......because Ralph seems like such a wonderful good person. Which I believe he is......more pictures would have been nice; but all in all, worth the money......

Matt Cohen MD, author Zen of Watering Your garden. This is a terrific book but in reality a difficult level for most people , families , even cooperative families to achieve. LAST CHILD IN THE WOODS
Last Child in the Woods" is one of those life changing books. The root of this book is two themes, "technology is not the answer, it is the problem", and "being out in nature is restorative to our soles". The obvious revelations here are too powerful to ignore. Any parent raising a child in the modern world needs to read this one book. The themes represented here are required reading. ...

Business racketeering rules the world
John Perkins is not the first to call attention to how big business runs the world. General Smedley D. Butler's book "War Is A Racket" is also a must read. Perkins is not a hero to be admired. He always made sure his own nest was well feathered as he continued to participate in what he knew were crimes against humanity. Towards the end of his career he found a safe (for him) time to write ...

A Superb Introduction to the Middle East
If what you seek is a clear, succinct, yet detailed account of how "the Middle East" --including the Maghrib-- became what it is today, look no further. This is by far the best available account of the modern history of "the Arabs" and their worlds. (And, it IS necessary to stress the plural, "worlds." Language and religious convictions may be common threads among Arabs; but much else is diverse ...

Good-natured, playful romp Down Under
Bill Bryson has done it again. Not only an amusing frolic around and in Australia, but also a very insightful historical dabble into this somewhat forgotten "planet". Bryson travels by train and car digging up meaningful and significant events from years gone by to present times. Former explorers, Aborigines, modern-day city life, the wind swept big-empty of the Outback, flora and fauna, ...
