This cocoa-dusted treasure hits that mythical sweet spot between practical, trusted travel guide and gorgeous, dreamy (if petite) coffee table book. Full of the kind of beautiful photos and evocative lyrical prose that you'll never find in any guide and jam-packed with all of the actionable, expert advice that's missing from all those exquisitely photographed gift books, this one has it all. ...

What a great guide to hard to find gems!
Although I am a serious home cook I tend to eat out a lot due to my busy travel schedule. I am always looking for the out-of-the-way places that only the locals know about. This book is my inside guide to those hidden treasures. First I checked out the cities that I know best and was amazed at how many of the small, jewel-like restaurants that I have visited in the past were included in this ...

Never boring
As usual the mischievous monkey, George, gets himself into lots of trouble at his visit to an ice cream shop. Also, as usual, everything ends well... This is a perfect bed-time reading for your baby. My children always ask for new stories about the monkey George. This one is only one of many others that we all know in our family. Although we can practically recite George's adventures one ...

ANOTHER GEM FROM CIA
This is the second book from the Culinary Institude of America that I have bought, the first being Chocolates and Confections by Grewelling. They are both luxury editions by Wiley. The author Mr Francisco Migoya has studied in both France (which is always a good sign) and Mexico. He has produced an exceptional piece of work, a labor of love concerning all kinds of frozen desserts and their ...

Great book
Great recipes for homemade ice cream, and easy to follow instructions. Definitely a MUST have in your home. Even if you only use this book a few times, it's well worth the purchase. However, you'll probably use it over and over again, because there's so many good recipes you'll want to try. Definitely worth the buy!

The best home made ice cream!
I ordered this book along with my new Kitchen Aid ice cream maker. The book is delightful, written with lots of humor and interesting stories of how Ben & Jerry started their business. Oh, and the recipes are great too! Really, there are some wonderful recipes in this little book. I was concerned about using raw eggs. I live in a very small Canadian town and was unable to get pasteurized ...

good book
I liked this book because it explained in detail, the proper use of ingredients. It gives easy to use formulas as well as giving explanations of why certain ingredients were used and substitutions of ingredients to get the results you desire. Some reviewers said the products were difficult to find, but with a simple web search, I found Glory Bees Food to be an excellent source. This book is a ...

Off-the-Wall Delight
I have to admit at the outset that I don't laugh as easily as others I know. Too much so called humor seems predictable or formulaic these days. Not so, The Rejection Collection volumes. This book and its predecessor had me giggling, chuckling, laughing and occasionally guffawing from cover to cover. The cartoons are great. Many are twisted, a little sick, or iconoclastic, which tickles me no ...

You can never know too much about pies
This was purchased as one of the Christmas gifts for my wife. She is an accomplished baker of pies, but I felt that even if she knows 99% of what's included in the book, she might still pick up a hint or new idea by looking through the book. And, she did pick up new ideas as she skimmed through it on Christmas morning. She does continue to refer to the book when contemplating a baking session.

Great ice cream cookbook!
William Sonoma cookbooks tend to be strong and this one is no exception. Their recipes prioritize quality over short cuts and convenience and you can taste the difference. The recipes are more labor intensive than some of the basics, but the qualitative difference is worth the extra work. Many recipes are custard based which creates an added step, but results in creamier, richer textures.
