To Kill the Irishman: The War that Crippled the Mafia

Luck of the Irish
This is a great book. Danny Greene's story is almost like a fairy tale. It would make a great movie and it redefines the one man irish gang that TJ English speaks about in "Paddy Whacked". This book is filled with excitement. Only problem with this read is that you must know a thing or two about this story before reading it. Porello doesn't bore you by going into detail and re-explain the ...

Finally...Douglass gets it right...
After some rather disappointing conclusions to her huge epic series like the six book Wayfarer Redemption Series and the Troy Game Series, finally Douglass comes up with a satisfying ending for me. After reading the three books in under two weeks, this stunning finale between angels and demons will leave a lasting impression on me for a long while. I think the main reason why I enjoyed this ...

At All Costs: How a Crippled Ship and Two American Merchant Mariners Turned the Tide of World War II

A great story, told pretty well
There's a lot to like about this book. Moses tells a great story. As other readers have pointed out, this is a tale of epic heroism and sacrifice, and you don't see many books that tell of WWII as it was fought by the merchant marine. Moses did his research, and makes liberal use of the recollections of those who fought this battle. But "At All Costs" falls short of five stars for a couple ...

The life of Benoit
The biggest problem with this book is that it was rushed out after the disgusting events which Chris Benoit perpetrated on his wife and son. Just the idea of putting the book out because of the media coverage of this event is what prevents it from being more favorably reviewed. The upside of the book is that it in no means attempts to forgive Benoit for his actions nor does it attempt to figure ...

Dangers Hour: The Story of The USSBunker Hill
This book had a lot of factual data, dates, times people etc but struck me as more of the work of an unrequited dime store novelist. I suspect the author will rely on other sources of income for their support. If you want to know these facts this is a good place to get them, otherwise keep looking. It seems the author was indebted to his sources so that they felt compelled to pass on the ...

Point for point the best foreign policy book out there. Period.
I'm still reading this book but had to write about it now. This book cuts through liberal/conservative/neoconservative hyperbole to get to the real and fundamental issue of our foreign policy. Or rather, what our foreign policy should be. Today, and for many decades, regardless of who is in power, it had been based on altruism and appeasement. Look at the results. This book lays claim to an ...

Sweet re-telling of the Nativity
This is a warm and tender version of the birth of Christ. its main theme is that Jesus came not only to seek out the lost, but He uses even the least of us for his kingdom. All children need to know that they are indeed precious creations, lovingly endowed by God with special gifts. This book is a hit with my 3-year-old class, and it is good to read to older children, as well.

Great
This is a great book for those interested in the chicago outfit, and the family secrets trial. I watched much of the trial, and Jeff really paints a compelling and accurate picture of what is was like inside the courtroom. He is a great storyteller, and weaved the many stories and facts into a very interesting read. I could easily see him writing more books, maybe one on Gov Blago or some other ...

A Learning Experience
I think Susie and Paul did a fabulous job writing their life story in this book. They were both very honest and straight forward. You gain a lot of insight from this book and from their experiences as well as learn more about them and what makes them who they are. This book makes you laugh, cry, think, etc , etc. You experience many emotions while reading it. This book also helps you to look at ...

A Detailed Analysis of Post-Independence Nigeria
Eghosa Osaghae recounts and analyzes the social, economic, and political spheres of post-independence Nigeria in 'Crippled Giant'. Osaghae's work is well-researched, his narrative well-reasoned. Anyone who wishes to understand Nigeria's current situation will do well to fully understand the country's contextual background, and Osaghae's book provides just that background. The book covers the ...

If you liked "Wild Swans" you will like this too
All the masses of people who loved "Wild Swans" will love this one too. It gives a slightly different perspective on the same situation. Gives less recent history, but more information on colonial exploitation in pre-communist times than Wild Swans does. This author has written a few other books too.

Engrossing and illuminating book
Witt's book is the best of its kind -- it illuminates the history and legal developments of the turn-of-the-century modern factories and their beleagured workers with stories of the historical players, the thinkers, and the judges and legislators. Witt is accessible to all and I have not stopped thinking about the book and its significance to today's tort laws since.

Beautiful book with a wonderful message
This book brought me to tears! I was expecting to read a simple childrens book about cute and cuddly puppies, and this book hit me with a deep message about equality and how you "can't always judge a book by it's cover". This book has beautiful illustrations and a message that we all need to be reminded of every once in a while. This is a childrens book about a young boy who wants to buy a ...

Charming Point Of View
The book well surprised me as it took the point of view straight to Assasult himself. Children will enjoy reading about this racehorse from his point of view really well. I only have a few complaints: The book comes to an abrupt end when the last chapter, that was only about the Belmont stakes, goes straight to the epilogue. Assault won many other important races after the triple crown, not to ...
