A World Divided: (Darkover Omnibus #5) (Darkover)2 reviews
Marion Zimmer Bradley

DAW, 2003

Three classic Darkover novels, including The Bloody Sun
Among all of Marion Zimmer Bradley's impressive body of work, she loved and cherished her Darkover novels and stories above all others. From the publication of Planet Savers in 1962 until her death in 1999, Bradley published over twenty Darkover novels and a dozen Darkover anthologies. It is a remarkable series covering six major stages of Darkovan history. Tragically, many of the Darkover ...

Renunciates of Darkover1 review
Marion Zimmer Bradley

DAW, 1991

a good selection of stories
A very readable anthology. All the stories deal with the "free amazons" but are not in any certain order, each story takes a different view. There were a couple that dealt with the begining of the order that were very well written.Hard to find but worth it.

Darkover: First Contact (Darkover Omnibus: Darkover Landfall & Two to Conquer)2 reviews
Marion Zimmer Bradley

DAW, 2004

I can't get enough Darkover!
I had the original Darkover Landfall, but gave it to a neighborhood a library. I Hadn't Read "Two to Conquer", so I bought the omnibus version. I reread the story and it was just as great as the first time. Two to Conquer was pretty good too.

The Saga of the Renunciates (The Shattered Chain, Thendara House, City of Sorcery) (Darkover)10 reviews
Marion Zimmer Bradley

DAW, 2002

Riveting and memorable...definitely worth your time
I wasn't sure what to expect going into this book - I loved Mists of Avalon, but wasn't fond of the other Avalon books. I wanted to like Darkover, but the two other Darkover novels I read (Stormqueen and Hawkmistress) didn't appeal to me much. And then I began The Shattered Chain. It started off exactly as I'd feared it would - a band of Amazons (just...read the other reviews for ...

The Alton Gift (Darkover)12 reviews
Marion Zimmer Bradley, Deborah J. Ross

DAW, 2008

Consequences and Reconciliations
I was captured by the world of Darkover a long time ago. Bradley built her world very carefully, with a fully imagined (and very long) history, a culture that was unique and appropriately defined by the unique characteristics of the Comyn, and conflicts that grew integrally from that culture and her individual characters. Ross, with this latest work, has done a good job of continuing the story, ...

Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover2 reviews
Marion Zimmer Bradley

DAW, 1993

An interesting collection.
For those who have been reading the "Friends of Darkover" collections of fan fiction that MZB has edited, most of these stories will be familiar; only a couple of them are new. These are the stories, written by MZB herself, that have appeared in the various collections, collected here in one place for those purists who refuse to read the Darkover fan fiction but want to read everything that ...

Rediscovery: A Novel of Darkover13 reviews

DAW, 1994

great book for darkover fans of all ages
it starts out with a ship from earth sending a team down to darkover for exploration. this shuttle crashes and ends up standed in the middle of a blizzard. an interesting subplot also tells the story of a young leonie hastur and her first trip to a tower for training of her laran. this i find slightlty more interesting becasue most darkover novels potray her in later life as a very unapproacable ...

Domains of Darkover (The Friends of Darkover Present)2 reviews

DAW, 1990

The weakest of the anthologies I've read so far
However, there are three stories (all from the Ages of Chaos, oddly enough) that stood out as true gems, and I give the whole book one star for each of them: First, there is "Clingfire," which takes two minor characters from the novel Stormqueen! (Coryn, Keeper of Hali Tower; and his lover Arielle, far below his station), fleshes them out, and puts one of the early, male Keepers in what seems to ...

Zandru's Forge (Clingfire Trilogy, Book 2)10 reviews
Marion Zimmer Bradley, Deborah J. Ross

DAW, 2004

Marion's vision continues . . .
Hi, Steve Y. Normally, I don't respond to reviews personally, but I want you to know that Marion and I worked together on the concept of this 3-book project before she passed away. Many of the ideas, as well as characters and settings, are hers. You probably noticed that a number of scenes appeared in HAWKMISTRESS! She left several partial manuscripts, which I will be finishing over the next ...

Winds of Darkover (Darkover Series)4 reviews
Marion Zimmer Bradley

Severn House Pub Ltd, 1996

An important but not quite essential Darkover novel
Among the native people of Darkover, even those outside the rule of the Comyn, certain taboos are strictly forbidden. In this society of telepaths, none must use their mental powers in order to shadow, or take over the mind and body, of another individual. Drastic times call for drastic measures, however, and the situation at High Windward, the outlying Castle of Storn, is indeed drastic. The ...

Leroni of Darkover3 reviews
Marion Zimmer Bradley

DAW, 1991

Worth looking for
"Leroni of Darkover" is another of Marion Zimmer-Bradley's anthologies edited by herself and written by new writers. It's already out of print, as it was collected in 1991. I wrote a review for another anthology, "The Four Moons of Darkover" but apparently, it doesn't seem to help buyers all that much as I was afraid to give away too much. Instead, indeed it was too little. In this ...

Snows of darkover (Darkover)4 reviews

DAW, 1994

A Keeper for the Library
I started reading the Darkover series when I was in college many moons ago. I have kept every single book from the series and re-read them all every few years. Bradley is the type of writer where the stories become so real that you can step right in and live along with the characters. If you want pure entertainment with a hint of social commentary as part and parcel of the story then read ...

Darkover Landfall (Darkover)18 reviews
Marion Zimmer Bradley

RH Canada UK Dist, 1987

This series is a thrilling blend of Sci-fi and Fantasy!
Heroines: varied Colonists journeying to a new home make an emergency landing on an inhospitable planet and are stranded there. The once technologically advanced people regress to a medieval type of feudalism but acquire some impressive psi powers along the way thanks to intermarrying with the planet's natives, a large supply of a psychic ability boosting flower called Kireseth, ...

Four Moons of Darkover (The Friends of Darkover Present)2 reviews

DAW, 1988

Moonlight Madness
"The Four Moons of Darkover" are part of a series of anthologies that deal with specific themes; in this case, the all-influential moons of Darkover. I personally enjoyed this anthology because it features some really good amateur work (which was encouraged by the late great Zimmer Bradley, who included the mechanics of joining in the backs of her anthologies---the world of literature is ...

Towers of darkover (Darkover)2 reviews

DAW, 1993

One of the best of the "Friends Of Darkover" anthologies.
There were no clunkers in this batch, and several top-flight stories. Highly recommended.

Children of Hastur (Darkover)1 review
Marion Zimmer Bradley

N. Doubleday, 1982

Mature Darkover
This volume contains The Heritage of Hastur and Sharra's Exile--the same two books put together by Daw, years later, under the title Heritage and Exile. Along with the three Renunciate books, written in the same time frame, these books hooked me on the Darkover series. They explore some fundamental social and political dimensions of Darkover and lay the foundation for the stories of ...
