I just purchased this book because i am planning to build a darkroom in my basement, and it has provided me with alot of information. This book is packed full of step-by-step instructions for alternative creative darkroom techniques. The instructions are easy to follow and the photo illustrations are well placed to enhance the readers understanding. Excellent reference for both shooters and photo scientists
Mr. Anchell has complied an excellent book for both people becoming interested in developing their own film and those who want to know more about the chemistry of photographic processing chemicals. There are sections on getting started building your own darkroom, previously tested formulae for developer, fixer, and other assorted solutions, and a full explanation of what each chemical does in ...

An excellent reference
With a clarity of presentation and personal anecdotes, Bernhard Suess masterfully presents techniques and information quite useful to both amateur and skilled photographers. There was a wealth of information presented in this book which significantly improved both my compositional and printing skills. Best Photography book!
This is one of the best photography books around, in my opinion. Very very detailed coverage of most all aspects of B&W and color photography. The author does not assum that you have your very own private dark room and makes sigguestions as to how you can use things you probably allready have around your house instead of expensive photography equipement. For instance, the author sigguests that ...

good reference book for starting a home darkroom
There are plenty of illustrations in this book, but they are only sketches or drawings. This book has some ideas that may be outdated or simply not economical. For instance, making an entire darkroom sink, painting it, preparing it for sealing, and all that, not to mention the worrying about leaks, etc. Could be better suggested that an economical sink under 100.00 be purchased... Too much ...

Transition between "wet" and "digital"
This book is an excellent reference and a must read for photographers caught in limbo between "wet" and "digital". Whereas many books on the market are filled with tricks and techniques for using Photoshop, Mr. Kennedy takes the reader much further into the nuts and bolts of work flows, and the proper configuration of photoshop. The author demystifies the printing process for both the novice ...

An Opposite Viewpoint
I am surprised by the previous review of this book. This is perhaps the easiest and clearest book I have seen to guide the completely uninitiated into the process of developing black and white film and producing photographic prints. It contains step by step photos throughout the entire process which I found very clear. I highly recommend it.

wonderful (and wondrous) - highly recommended
This is a great book, full of practical guidance, inspirational ideas and impressive/intriguing images produced by the authors (all in about equal measure). Just as one simple illustration of the scope covered, there are example images throughout the book taken using conventional film cameras (old and new, in several different formats), pinhole cameras and digital cameras, plus others generated ...

Getting the most out of smaller negatives.
Getting the most out of smaller negatives. One of the problems that the small format (35mm) photographer faces when using faster film (ASA 400) is that the subsequent loss of detail makes truly representative imagery difficult to accomplish. Used to the techniques of large format specialists such as Ansel Adams or John Sexton, we have come to expect big prints with breathtaking depth and detail. ...

Slippery Identity
If you like Hermans and enjoyed Beyond Sleep, you will enjoy this book as well. The slippery identities of the the main character (Henri Osewoudt) and his doppelganger (Dorbeck) are at the heart of this novel about the WW II Underground in Holland--nothing is certain; everything shifts; and there is more than a touch of Kafka here. I had ordered it from Amazon.uk last year after reading Beyond ...

(...)First. The CD contains a whole lot of Adobe liscenced demo software for Mac and PC.It would take you hours to download. I know I downloaded it. That's good value. Second. I'm Mac based so the Director files are Mac based. Sorry about this but there is only so much room on a CD. I have PC emulation on my Mac. So no problem. My Mac can read PC stuff. Sorry it doesn't work the other way. Moan ...
