Five stars but... for the right audience!
I was excited by the title, some of the reviews and rushed to buy this. Read it quite fast and got little disappointed. Probably the correct title could be ''Advocacy for Competing on Analytics''. To be clear, the book is very good if you are: a student, a junior project manager, a junior consultant, a manager looking for Business Intelligence ideas, an expert looking for tools to sell ...

I have heard from other nursing students how helpful this book is and I have to agree that it helps to understand why things are done the way they are.

Teaches you how to think
Although it would be nice to have everything you needed for a survival situation, that isn't always the case. Davenport's book teaches you how to think through a survival situation and promotes the art of improvising when things go wrong. His book is straight forward--helping the reader identify survival needs while showing a myriad of methods in which to meet them. It is a textbook! One I ...

Very Motivational!
This is a book that will pick you up, and start you on the road to discovering your dreams again. We all used to dream as kids, but many of us have forgotten how. (And as for the reviews of it being too much about Arbonne -- maybe the reason he uses Arbonne as his example so often in the book is because Arbonne is one company that "gets it.")

Handy, convenient and helpful
I bought this guide and the Rick Steves book to plan my trip to Dublin. Both were very helpful, but I left Rick's book at home because Lonely Planet has GLBT info in it and has better maps. I used the maps a lot, both to find my way and also to get back on track when I got lost. A lot of the prices for things quoted in the book had gone up, but that's to be expected. I highly recommend both ...

Lucas is still hot as every.
John Sandford is still holding his space as best selling author and it shows in his work. Phantom Prey is another Lucas Davenport crime novel. Lucas as always is strong, tough and confused by the madness of the killer or killers. This one takes you through a maze of characters who are or are not what they seem. It is as always a page turner and yes, you will be shocked. Kudo's John Sandford you ...

A real life-saver
Although I was primarily a knitter, the weaving bug recently bit me, and hard. The only weaving I'd ever done was Jersey loop potholders and more recently, rugs made on a homemade loom out of cut-up t-shirts, so I had no idea where to start when it came to looms and so on. I'm fortunate enough to have an excellent fiber store within driving distance, so I headed there to purchase my 32" Kromski ...

27 years of efficacy
Mrs. Davenport was my tenth-grade English teacher and we were the first class to use this book in class. She was great and the experience helped me learn writing and editing skills that I am using today as a professional writer. I always assumed that everyone got the same kind of education, but I see evidence to the contrary on a regular basis. Also, I can still recite Hamlet's soliliquy and the ...

Must-read if you have any Knowledge Workers in your company
Knowledge Workers are those people whose main professional output is Knowledge. Because all work requires some knowledge, the boundary can be arbitrary. So, depending on where you draw the line, Knowledge Workers represent ¼ to 1/3 of the labor force in the developed world. Doctors, lawyers, researchers, consultants, and computer programmers all share this trait. We saw (in Corporate Longitude ...

Given the Quality, an Exceptional Value
This is one in a series of volumes of articles which previously appeared in the Harvard Business Review. They offer direct and relatively inexpensive access to cutting-edge thinking on a major business subject. This volume provides eight essays, each preceded by an "Executive Summary." The first selection "What Makes a Leader?") was written by Daniel Goleman, author of Emotional Intelligence, ...

Shark Dialogues
This is a fascinating, expertly written saga of the lives of a family down through the generations - each more interesting and compelling than the last. The setting is Hawaii at the turn of the century and carries the reader thru the overthrow of the Monarchy to Pearl Harbor and beyond.I lived in Hawaii 15 years but learned so much more about Hawaii and it's people from this book. I couldn't put ...

A story of love and family and the unsafe world created by the march of progress
I've becoming quite a fan of Kiana Davenport. Her themes are always about her native Hawaii. Her characters are symbolic as well as real. And her stories never fail to keep me up well past my bedtime. I read her latest book in a couple of days and just couldn't put it down. This was in spite of the fact that I generally knew what was coming. In fact, I welcomed it. Because, in the end, I ...

Creepy couple
A demented married couple is going around the upper midwest in order to murder old people for their antiques. This twist on what constitutes the "usual" serial killer in mystery novels, made this book stand out, for more reasons than just the excellent writing. Davenport has quickly become one of my favorite American fictional police officers.

psychological harassment
Before my experience of becoming a victim of "mobbing", I had never heard of this word. I've had to deal with a bully or two in the past, and the usual work pressures caused by demanding bosses and strict deadlines. But nothing prepared me for the experience of being mobbed. It was passive aggressive style mobbing. This book was a great resource for myself, though it made me sad that some ...

All you [might] need to know...
Gregory Davenport's book is a masterpiece of clarity and brevity, and it covers all the bases. Use it as a reference book, as opposed to a cover-to-cover read. For instance, it starts off with a chapter on making buckskin. It's just the right level of detail if you're tanning a hide, but too much for the casual reader. Another example is the wonderful chapter on making snares. Davenport ...
