On Halloween Night (Picture Puffins)
We ordered this book for a school gift at Halloween. We read the book to the kids and they loved it. A great story for either girls or boys.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Boxed Set, The2 reviews
Rick Riordan

Hyperion Book CH, 2008

Excellent, even for reluctant readers
My 4th grade son who does not love to read absolutely loves this series. I can't get him to stop reading; he is reading instead of TV, video games, outside, etc. I read a few chapters of each of the 4 and they are well written, funny, and full of action/adventure. Great books!

I'm a Big Sister75 reviews
Joanna Cole, Maxie Chambliss

HarperCollins, 1997

Great, Positive Book to Prepare a Toddler for a Baby
We received this book as a gift, and it is the best "baby on the way" book we have read. My daughter (almost 3) loves it, asks for it all the time, and has pretty much memorized it now. My friend's little girl who is the same age, and also expecting a little brother, loves it too. It's nice how it emphasizes how the big sister can help, and how she is still special to mommy and daddy. ...

Excellent learning experience.
This book is a beautifully illustrated journey that explores life questions in a way that is magic for the reader of any age.

The Lorax (Classic Seuss)130 reviews
Dr. Seuss, Theodor Seuss Geisel

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1971

I guess I'm a tree-hugger
Okay, so this is probably as preachy as Dr. Suess gets, and it just might get on the nerves of some people, but the tree hugger in me salutes him for it, even as he paints a grimmer picture of environmental destruction than Al Gore ever thought of. Even so, it's clearly Suess with his imaginative worlds and funny characters. It's a solemn book of warning that it pretty darn good into ...

Love You Forever779 reviews
Robert Munsch

Firefly Books Ltd., 1995

A touching book
I gave this book to my son when he turned forty. He called me and told me how much it meant to him and how it made him cry. My son is a 6'3 Army Ranger Instructor and very few things have made him cry., trust me. I heard this book the first time when in church, our preacher pulled up a rocking chair on Mother's day and read it to us. I knew I had to have it. I hope all of you who read it are ...

Rules (Apple Signature)72 reviews
Cynthia Lord

Scholastic Paperbacks, 2008

Rules
We all do it, out of human nature. We see people we feel to be less fortunate than us and we can't help but look their way. A glance filled with pity and guilt. Whether it be physical limitations from something like cerebral-palsy or "odd" behavior stemmed from something like autism. However, inside these individuals lies someone as interesting, as creative, and as normal as you and me. Often ...

The Devil We Know: Dealing with the New Iranian Superpower6 reviews
Robert Baer

Crown, 2008

An Absolutely Alternative Look at the Realty of Us vs. Iran
Once again, Baer comes flying in with the sorry-but-it's-true reality of the Middle East. I've read all his books and couldn't wait to read this one. The first two dealt with exposing what Saudi Arabia is really up to and their involvement in terror and, most importantly, why it is beyond insane to call them an "ally." Now he takes on Iran and details in very convincing manner (having dealt ...

The Boomer Burden: Dealing with Your Parents' Lifetime Accumulation of Stuff21 reviews
Julie Hall

Thomas Nelson, 2008

Lifesaver!
Julie's book is indeed a lifesaver! It came to my attention as I was beginning the process of downsizing my mother. Very difficult circumstances and this book was invaluable. Practical advice and comfort in knowing my situation was not unique. Julie has seen it all and the book reflects her expertise. I cannot recommend it highly enough and will buy multiple copies for my friends.

Emotional Vampires: Dealing With People Who Drain You Dry81 reviews
Albert J. Bernstein

McGraw-Hill, 2002

Useful, Informative, Easy to Read
I came across this book when a close friend of mine ran into issues with a difficult person in her life. Some one gave her the book, and (because I read everything in sight!) I subsequently read it. It was very beneficial in explaining my relationship with my youngest son and in helping him understand me as well. I have tendencies toward the obsessive-compulsive side, while he tends toward the ...

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane221 reviews
Kate Dicamillo

Candlewick, 2007

wonderful book to read together with your child.
This book was wonderful, tragic, sweet, and funny. My daughter and I read it together and loved every minute of it. The writing is fabulous and the illustrations are just so sweet. My daughter and I bawled at the completion of the book. It will be a book/memory we will always cherish.

In Sheep's Clothing: Understanding and Dealing with Manipulative People77 reviews
George K. Simon Jr.

A. J. Christopher & Company, 1996

the title explains it all
This book helps you deal with those people who make you feel bad at saying no. They manipulate you by making you feel like you are the bad guy. Its easier deal with someone who is overtly aggressive than covertly, because you can see their manipulations. That is why I highly recommend this book for everyone!

Autumn Is for Apples (Pictureback(R))2 reviews
Michelle Knudsen

Random House Books for Young Readers, 2001

Autumn Apples
This book contains beautiful pictures for the younger reader. It is a simple story and one that the children can relate to as well as use their imagination.

Walter the Farting Dog182 reviews
William Kotzwinkle, Glenn Murray

Frog Children's Books, 2001

Walter the Farting Dog -- A Dog Trainer's Perspective
I don't know how William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray learned of my dog George. Somehow, though, they must have heard the tale - like the fart heard round the world - and seen in his story the drama, the suspense to capture an audience and make their New York Times Bestseller dreams come true. They changed his name, of course, called him Walter the Farting Dog; but then that is common practice, ...

Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf11 reviews
Lois Ehlert

Harcourt Children's Books, 1991

Myriad of illustrative techniques. Informative book about leaves.
The illustrator uses vivid photographs, paper cut images, nature colors and pressed leaves to illustrate a child's description of a seed growing to a sapling. The writing consists of nice large letters and smaller typed descriptions of 'bird treat' or 'sugar maple', 'round-pointed spade' or 'downy woodpecker'. The last four pages of the book are an indepth look at leaves, buds, roots and sap, ...

The Berenstain Bears Learn About Strangers (First Time Books(R))44 reviews
Stan Berenstain, Jan Berenstain

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1985

Great book
I have talked to my daughter on many occasions about strangers. However, after reading this book to her several times (and stopping to talk about what was happening), she's finally starting to understand that she shouldn't interact with strangers unless her parents are around.

A heart warming masterpiece
Patricia MacLachlan creates a heart warming masterpiece through a simple country family's connection with each other and their land. All the Places to Love begins with Eli's birth and his first view of the countryside his family calls home. Eli would soon grow to love this countryside through his experiences with his mother, father, and grandparents. They each have a place on the farm, which ...
