Very handy quick reference
A short reference that does away with all the hand-holding detail the Knoppix Pocket Reference is a great guide to how to do almost everything you want to do with Knoppix as well as resolve minor trouble issues. The items covered in this reference include the various startup codes that can be used when booting Knoppix, how to boot the different kernels, booting into different graphic modes, ...

Very helpful
The book is an excellent overview of Linux. I highly recommend the Linux Bible to get an idea of what is available in linux and to chose a distro. However, and this is not a flaw in the book, to become more that a windozer, one must read at least, Garrell's, "Introduction to Linux", available online as opensource. Without proper maintenance linux will soon be clogged, useless and hacked, but ...

best little pocket guide thing I've ever seen
Might be confusing for some who don't realize that various flavours of UNINX and Linux abound but so what! This book is not supposed to teach that kind of thing anyway.

It is Oreilly which if your new means well written to the point . I like the dummy series which are good reads on what can be a mind numbing topic and I do this stuff for a living. Excellent
I was in a urgent need of some fairly serious Linux bootcamp. This book worked, and this is how: I hadn't had any significant Linux experience prior to buying this book. Sure, I knew a few basic UNIX commands, who doesn't? After installing Ubuntu it became clear that I simply will have to spend too much time googling solutions for every problem. I went ahead and bought this book, read it ...

not bad
I don't even use debian myself ... but I'm a "collector" of various technical manuals and this one actually impressed me with the last 1/3 of the book actually going into C/C++ Python, Java, and even had a section in the 1st 1/3 on perl ...... not BAD!

It's about the values
This is the book that gets us past the fighting in debate, and moves us toward the real power that can be found in understanding someone else's argument. As it turns out, the style of debate suggested by the authors is, in action, more powerful persuasion than facts and figures alone. This is a book about values and understanding value hierarchies, with excellent guidance on connecting to others ...

Could be better
I was hoping for more infomation about the deselect and apt-get processes. As these are the core of Debian installation and upgrade management, they probably needed more than half a dozen pages to expalin them. The rest of the book is pretty standard, but useful, set up info for Linux in general.

Simply Fantastic!!!
I have just entered the world of linux and bought this book as it seemed the best available in the market at the moment and i was proved right! The book also includes 12 different linux distributions but I suggest you install the Fedora Core 4 as the book is based on this distribution. Anyone new to linux must have this book as it starts from the very begining of linux and it gets tougher as the ...

Good "bible" for beginners and those who wish to solve most common problems easily
This book is definitly not intended for professionals, and definition of "bible" is questionable when book deals with big things such as Debian. Of course this book can't solve every possible problem or show you everything. In order to achieve that, it should have few thousands pages :) However, it will serve you well if you wish a complete guidance in installing debian on common pc platforms and ...

Good for Newbies
This is a great introduction to Debian as server or workstation. It covers lots of basic information needed to understand how to administer a debian machine and get a debian server setup. For those who are beyond the newbie stages, it does not offer a whole lot tho.

Great help for a difficult Linux Distribution
This book comes with version 2.1 of Debian GNU/Linux. I first encountered Debian GNU/Linux back in 1996. The version back then had a static kernel with drivers for almost every SCSI and Ethernet device known to Linux. When I attempted to install it, my system promptly froze while it was detecting hardware. So I was happy for the opportunity to revisit Debian GNU/Linux with the help of this ...

A great book for all users
There are way too many computer book authors who simply do not know how to write. Bill McCarty is not one of these. He has written an erxcellet book that eplains debian on a very basic level. This is a good book because it delivers exactly what it promises to deliver. It is an introduction to linux and it encourages new users to "have fun" and "be patient." It is outdated, though. For Linux, a ...

The work of Othman never disappoints. Staggering in width and sheer masculine bulk, he unpacks the most abstruse of technical concepts while swimming Boricuan waters and rescuing Kosovar refugees in his spare time. Othman is a boon to all of us in need of insight, wit and utter fabulousness. Read him to reach nirvana.
