Scholastic Success With Fractions & Decimals Workbook (Grade 5)2 reviews
Scholastic

Scholastic Teaching Resources (Teaching, 2003

Good reinforcement for Fractions
We follow the DK publishing for Math. After teaching the basic math - addition, substraction, multiplication and division, I was stuck with teaching Fractions to my kids. I was looking something exclusive on Fractions and this book fills that gap. Plenty of Practice and it saved me good time.

Young Mathematicians at Work: Constructing Fractions, Decimals, and Percents1 review
Catherine Twomey Fosnot, Maarten Dolk

Heinemann, 2002

Young Mathematicians At Work
Constructing Fractions, Decimals, and Percents by Fosnot and Dolk is a wonderful book for teachers who are trying to teach fractions and their relationship to decimals and percents. A very hands-on approach that really had me thinking about math differently. The first problem was dividing three subs for 4 children, 3 subs for 5 children, 4 subs for 5 children, and 7 subs for 8 children. Try it ...

Contemporary's Number Power 2: Fractions Decimals and Percents (Essentials)3 reviews
Jerry Howett

McGraw-Hill/Contemporary, 2000

Contemporary's Number Power 2: Fractions Decimals and Percents (Essentials)
I use this book in my GED class. They do have over 20 of these bookks at class but I rather have my own. this way I do not have to return the book and if I mess up the book it is mine. It is always best to get the same book in case you have to return the book you will not have the math to work on during the summer. So this is why I rather have my own book. These math books are very very ...

Fractions, Decimals, and Percents GMAT Preparation Guide (Manhattan GMAT Preparation Guides)1 review
Manhattan GMAT Prep

MG Prep, Inc., 2007

Very good for the target audience
"Very good for the target audience" - I think this sums it all. If you are someone who has not done active maths for some time now, and therefore does not remember the concepts involved very well, this is the book for you. This I will say holds true for most of the books of the Manhattan Quant series. The Manhattan Quant series books cover the concepts only to the degree that gets asked in the ...

Mastering Essential Math Skills DECIMALS AND PERCENTS (Mastering Essential Math Skills)1 review
Richard W. Fisher

Math Essentials, 2008

Decimals and Percents made simple
I reviewed all six of the new Mastering Essential Math Skills titles at the 2008 NCTM Math Confernece. I am a big fan of Fisher's original books. He has a knack for making math fun and easy to learn. This book does an excellent job of teaching decimals and percents, and it also effectively shows the close relationship that exists between decimals, fractions, and percents. As in Fisher's other ...

Delightful Decimals and Perfect Percents: Games and Activities That Make Math Easy and Fun1 review
Lynette Long

Wiley, 2002

Great games for understanding math concepts
I am a homeschooler. My son is a very visual and hands-on learner, so when he learned math using paper and pencil calculations only, he would quickly forget the concepts by the next day. I searched the internet for math games to reinforce conceptual understanding of decimals for my son. I think this is an exceptional book filled with fun and interesting methods to reinforce math concepts. It ...

Can You Count to a Googol?2 reviews
Robert E. Wells

Albert Whitman & Company, 2000

Great Fun With Big Numbers!
I read this book to my son and daughter when they were 6 and 4 years old. They were, at the time, obsessed with big numbers, like billions, trillions, and more. They were fascinated with the concept of the number One Google, and this book's fun and detailed visuals were the perfect "food" to feed their hunger for numbers. A must-read for exploring math with your curious children.

On Beyond a Million: An Amazing Math Journey5 reviews
David M. Schwartz

Dragonfly Books, 2001

google and googleplex
On Beyond a Million is my sons favorite math storybook. Since reading this book, I hear them using the words google and googleplex in conversations with each other. They are young (ages 5 and 7), so I don't think they understood all of it, but my seven year old figured out exponents from the book, and now he can do exponents on his own. It introduced more advanced math concepts in a fun way.
