A great book for beginners to Web design
I found this book by accident in the library when I was starting the process of designing our office's web site. Because I was a rank beginner to the world of web design (although I knew the PC, Windows 98, Microsoft Office, FrameMaker, PageMaker and a little Photoshop), I needed some hand-holding to get my feet wet. This book was better than anything else I found for that task. There are ...

Very Helpful Book on SOA
This is a very helpful book on SOA because it provides the business case for SOA, an excellent technical overview, and real-life examples of how to use it. While it is written from an SAP perspective, any IT group that is investigating SOA will find value in this book -- as it describes how SOA impacts different layers of the IT stack (from persistence to business objects, to process ...

Excellent book for validating designs at work...
We had to redesign one of our really broken systems at work. I validated our whiteboard sessions on the redesign by replacing every concept we discussed with a design pattern from this book mainly just for fun. At the first meeting no one changed anything I drew and our main architect accepted the pattern based designed no questions asked and no changes whatsoever. If you're architecting ...

Excellent Book
This is a really great book for learning XHTML, CSS, and related web technologies. I like how comprehensive it is, covering topics that are mostly ignored by other HTML books like search engines, CSS hacks, and common pitfalls. Jam packed with very useful, well presented, and up to date information, you will get your moneys worth on this one.

Great resource
This book is a great resource for those of us in the information and document processing industry. It is put together in such a way as to walk you through a methodology that is complete, well rounded, and ultimately...profitable. Kevin Craine has done a good job applying techniques and methods from proven areas of business strategy development and casting them with a "document focus." The ...

High marks from a web designer who STARTED with this book.
This Design Guide was the only reference I used to design my first website, with no prior knowledge of HTML and little understanding of the Internet on the whole. That first site, developed almost three years ago, was simple but successful and has changed little since that time despite changing designers and webmaster several times. The case studies and examples provided are informative and ...

Wonderful start to learn HTML
I have been working with HTML for nearly four years, but to teach it to a beginner is often mind boggling for it is like learning another language - worse, it is code and tags not words for people to relate to, for it is often intimidating to people wanting to learn but are floored when they first start. This is THE book for people starting out. It covers all aspects in easy to understand terms, ...

Much More Than a Practice for the Test Book
This book is the training manual for taking Microsofts 70-442 certification examination on SQL Server 2005. And like other training manuals, it gives an excellent introduction to the exam and provides the information that you'll need to pass the test. It includes sample tests, a time limited version of SQL Server 2005 to help with the examples, all the usual things. This book, however, goes ...

SVG, unlike anything you have ever seen
Remember the first time you used "View Source" in your browser to learn from someone who knew something you did not? Because you learned well and fast, you made a living from HTML. The Web grew so explosively partly because we were all learning that way. Now imagine the same thing happening in Web graphics. A text-based graphics format, with source open for all to learn. SVG, as an application of ...

Very relevant for anyone designing Web Services
Component modeling, analysis of information exchanges, and application services usage patterns are critical areas to focus on in designing internal and external interfaces exposed by enterprises, ASPs/SaaS, and other consumer-oriented internet services. We have many good examples of scalable, evolvable, easy to integrate and interoperable Web Services API in the consumer-oriented ...

Excellent resource for my needs
At first I was somewhat skeptical due to a couple of negative reviews. However, I was desparate. The other XML books I've read (and fallen asleep with) seem to be restatements of the W3C specifications. I am a DBA/Data Architect in the midst of an international Web Services and SOA project and I needed something fast. As it turns out, this was probably the best investment in reference materials ...

Excellent
An Excellent and very informative book. Not only does it have a complete list of CSS 2.1 compliant listings, property by property , but practical use and examples that make it easy to understand and apply. You can't beat Amazon's price. I purchased this and "The CSS Anthology" for the same price as one of the books at BN or Borders. AN Excellent Addition to the Web Programmers Library!

Excellent
I find that all of Lyndas books are excellent. I have been able to create some wonderful pages on my own by using her examples and following her easy to understand guide lines. There are a lot of Web Design books on the market, and most of them say the same things over and over again. With Lynda's books I know she's telling it like it is in the most easies format possible. Everyone wants to ...

A must read
I can't say enough about this book. The content is well organized, and very well written. How often do you read every page of a book about programming?(esp. this publisher) What is key in this book is not the choice of browser (or XML) , it is the principles. Buy it or borrow it, but you must read it.

Excellent overview of J2EE big picture
I have been using Servlet/JSP/EJB for quite a while. However, until after reading this book, I start to fully understand the big picture of the J2EE platfrom. I wish I could have read it long time ago, before I started dig into all the details of Servlet/JSP/EJB! While, after understanding all these building blocks, come back and read this big picture blueprint is still a very nice treatment. ...

I had been developing software for about 10 years... and am just finishing up a grad degree in CS after going back to school... If found this book to be a LOT better than all the hand outs that my prof put together... It's a great book to give you an overview of all the problems in mobile computing... and a lot of the answers... (not all :-)). As the other reviewer says, it's priced a bit high ...
