What a great guide to hard to find gems!
Although I am a serious home cook I tend to eat out a lot due to my busy travel schedule. I am always looking for the out-of-the-way places that only the locals know about. This book is my inside guide to those hidden treasures. First I checked out the cities that I know best and was amazed at how many of the small, jewel-like restaurants that I have visited in the past were included in this ...

a thoughtful interaction with Jesus
I just finished this book and I must say I was surprised. It was very good. My initial worry was that it would be fluffy, but the portrait of Jesus struck the right balance between his being compassionate and winsome on the one hand, but far from passive or a push-over on the other. It was enjoyable to the end. If I have friends who wonder what a conversation with Jesus would be like or are ...

An Easy and Successful Way to Menu-Plan
This is such a great concept- and it works, if you are faithful to it. I got cookbook/guide a while ago and used it haphazardly at first, choosing to follow it on some weeks and ignore it on others. Then, a friend of mine who saw it at my house and ordered it started following it faithfully and told me of her good experiences with the book. I decided that I would give it a go, and have not ...

Great Addition For Everyone's Cookbook Library
My daughter in law had this cookbook. I looked through it and fell in love with it. I purchased one for myself and use it at least 3 times a week. Recipes are easy to follow and contain "normal" ingredients. So far, my husband has liked every one I have tried! I would recommend this to all women who need some new ideas for meals.

GREAT BOOK AND GREAT CONVERSATION STARTER
I enjoyed reading this book and looking at the photos. The photos are great of many great chefs. I enjoyed reading that many of the great chefs wanted simple meals from their youth as their last meal, not some fancy gourmet dish. I enjoyed the recipes in the back of the book. I was especially happy that my 18 year old son saw the book on the table and started reading it. We had some very ...

You'll never eat the same way again!
This is a non-fiction account of the history behind the food we eat. This book describes the great industrial food complex and advocates local, organic foods. Extremely well-researched and well-presented. This was a compelling book and will likely convince you to change your eating habits.

Great ideas!
To make the most of our new home, I was looking for ideas for custom made cabinetry and other storage options. Although the style of quite a few examples are not to my taste, I still got enough ideas and inspiration. Also a plus; the book gives you tips for matching built-ins to the rest of the room, to get a coordinated look. My favourite chapters: Passages (great storage options to be found ...

Quick, easy and delightful to eat!
In cooking, like many ither areas of life, I've come to the conclusion that nothing good comes easy. I am happy to say that Sara Moulton has proved me wrong. I like to think of myself as a discerning, if occasional, home chef. I pride myself on cooking intricate recipes with gourmet results (often after hours of slaving in the kitchen). However, between work and kids and school, I have ...

A unique insight into the American Presidency --- long overdue!
Barry Landau's wonderful book deserves special attention as it covers an area, for the most part, largely ignored by historians. In addition to broad general appeal, this book will particularly interest history buffs, gourmands, socialites, collectors, and scholars. History is most truly enjoyed through the tangible items that provide us a connection to our past, as well as, the stories that ...

The Dinner Doctor is IN
I love to read cookbooks. Usually, that's all I do with them, thumb through them and set them aside, maybe making one or two of the recipes. When I got this cookbook, I took it to my son's football game and read it during timeouts, etc. Not only was it a good read, but the recipes are perfect for a family on the go who needs ideas here and there for something different. I'm also a cook who ...

Move over remarkable service.
I attended the Culinary Institute of America and was trained by Mr. Fischer. I cannot imagine a single resource that does so much to demistify the key essentials of successful service than this reference. I recommend it to anyone in the industry or interested in the industry. The old standard (the bible until now) for front of the house reference has been remarkable service. An information filled ...

Great resource!
This is a great resource to have for travelling. I love the tabbed setup that makes it easy to get to the section I need. Obviously a lot of thought was put in to making the book (with an amazing amount of info.) as easy to use as possible. It is obvious that a great deal of thought and experimentation has been put forth in the making of this valuable resource! After being gf (and other ...

MY HUSBAND AND I ARE PLANNING A TRIP TO MAUI THIS COMING NOVEMBER, AND I ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO THE FOOD. JUST READING THROUGH THIS BOOK IS FUN, AND FULL OF INFORMATION THAT ONLY SOMEONE WHO REALLY KNOWS MAUI'S GOOD, BAD, EXCELLENT PLACES TO EAT WOULD BE ABLE TO SHARE. I APPRECIATE HOW THEY BREAK THE RESTAURANTS DOWN TO AREA, MAKES IT EVEN EASIER TO PLAN. CAN'T WAIT TO TRY ALEXANDERS FISH ...

Wonderful, enlighten read, with one caveat.
I deeply enjoyed this engrossing read. Tannahill has done a superb job mixing history, culture, and the culinary arts. As a student of culture and a lover of food I was drawn in by Tannahill's attention to detail, while at the same time writing an informative work that was easy to read and hard to put down. My one and only criticism lies in her choices for footnotes. I was puzzled by her ...

This was a fabulous book, and well worth the price!
I am one of those people who does NOT live to eat, so I am anything but knowledgeable about food and restaurants. My top picks are often hamburgers and French fries, or pizza. When contemplating my first trip to Hawaii, I definitely needed help with where and what I was going to eat, in what I consider a foreign land. The last thing I wanted to do was to sign up for a guided tour, but with this ...
