iMovie '09 & iDVD: The Missing Manual

Pogue Press, 2009
Even an 80 year old can learn to create movies with this manual
I could not have made my first movie without iMovie '09 & iDVD The Missing Manual. I am now 80 years old, and learning something new. My wife has been ice skating for 63 years, and had never seen herself skate. She had her second knee replaced, and it would be wonderful if she could show her surgeon how she could skate on her new knee. It took almost a week using iMovie '09 & iDVD The ...

One of my favorite plays to teach!
I love The Glass Menagerie, and love teaching it, as well. The characters are so unrealistic, but so clearly defined. Read it - and the rest of Tennessee Williams, as well!

Younger Next Year
Author shows how if you make small adjustments in your unhealthy lifestyle you can gradually change this significantly and hardly ever know what you missed. As you get more and more energy and clothes start fitting better you like this and continue motivated by comments like "wow you look like you are losing weight" from your peers! GREAT READ!!!

Fun read-- SHOCKING tale of greed
Fun to revisit the history of Dreamworks, and also a shock to realize the sickening greed of Spielberg & Co. Fun beach read with juicy tales of celebrities, filmmakers & dealmakers. Recommend.

We all threatened to "write the book"...
...but Mickey Rapkin got the honor, and he got it right. As a key member of the staff at Stagedoor Manor for 24 years (1979-2002), I can tell you that the number of times I heard the phrase, "God, you could write a book about this place" was rivaled only by the number of lifelong relationships I found there. In "Theater Geek," Mickey has found the true heart of the place I still think of as ...

Anne Carson

Spellbinding
Stunning. Carson is a poet and classicist who is truly sui generis. Her new work, Nox, is a scrapbook of pictures, drawings, stamps, scribbles, anecdotes and definitions of the words comprising Catullus' poem No. 101 ("for his brother who died in the Troad") that coalesce into a profoundly haunting, moving and surprisingly vulnerable elegy for the poet's brother. Ignore the obnoxious and ...

"It's really a pretty frightful situation. You see, there's no privacy here." (Blanche)
Tennessee Williams (1911-83) began his writing career as a dramatist and first achieved success with "The Glass Menagerie" (1944), and in 1947 he wrote his next important play "Streetcar Named Desire" which was presented at the Barrymore Theater in the same year and awarded a Pulitzer Price. Blanche Dubois, visiting the New Orleans home of her sister Stella and brother-in-law Stanley Kowalsky, ...

Fun AND Inspirational!
I've been an aspiring film maker for a long time and was beginning to wonder if I should finally give up the dream until I read the "Shut up and Shoot" documentary guide. Now I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel! I moved from Southern California to Texas a few years ago and am now the Video Production Manager for a major newspaper. Great book to add to my SATC collection

Nausea

A bellyache no amount of Tums can relieve...
*Nausea* is quite simply one of the major touchstones of the "literature of alienation" that so marked the 20th century--a sickness we may have survived but never really recovered from, sort of like a spiritual AIDS. Sartre's psychologically claustrophobic tale of a youngish historian overwhelmed by existence sounds all the notes of paranoia, pointlessness, disgust, and dread elevated to a ...

Great Book, with examples from films.
Lots of other good reviews on this one (some bad as well). I took a look at it and found it to be very nice. At under $20.00 it is a lot better than paying for a $150.00 (used) textbook to use in a class. The basis of the book is giving you industry terms for the types of shots, with definitions and detailed examples from films. It delivers plain and simple, very nice book and written well.

Acting: The First Six Lessons

Taylor & Francis, 2007
An Abolute Must
Anyone seriously interested in acting MUST read this book and then re-read it again and again as time goes on. It is simply one of the best books ever written on the subject. The most important lesson of the book is the difficulty and commitment required from anyone who wants to become an actor. Although it seems simple, the lessons he teaches take literally a lifetime to learn.
