A great tool.
Many people that come to see me for therapy have moderate to severe anxiety. It is so nice to be able to be able to tell them to get this book and work through it between sessions. I really find it helps them. Lots of great tips!

The No-Cry Sleep Solution: Gentle Ways to Help Your Baby Sleep Through the Night649 reviews
Elizabeth Pantley, William Sears

McGraw-Hill, 2002

The best advice I ever recieved.
This is the best "baby expert" book I have ever read. Not only does it NOT advocate that you IGNORE your baby and let her cry it out, but it offers a wealth of advice for ALL parents: infants, toddlers, crib sleepers, co-sleepers, breastfed, bottlefed, etc. It doesn't necessarily advocate a specific mode of sleeping (crib vs. co-), but gives you guidance based on what WORKS BEST FOR YOUR FAMILY. ...

Madness: A Bipolar Life16 reviews
Marya Hornbacher

Houghton Mifflin, 2008

Living my hell through her hell
I have some addiction issues with Klonopin and I started reading this book when I was going through some serious Klonopin withdrawal. I am not bipolar but I found this book helpful and comforting while going through my own personal madness. Like she says in the book, I honestly don't know how she made it through all this without killing someone (by mistake of course) or herself, accidental or ...

Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorder72 reviews
Richard Louv

Algonquin Books, 2008

TEN Star Great book!!!!
Cannot recommend this book enough whether you live in a city, suburb or rural area. Nature is all around you as the book says, and sadly to many children have no idea what trees are in their neighborhood, or what that flower called a dandelion is growing thru the crack in the sidewalk. If nothing else I hope the book will make parents/adults and children simply stop and look around and ...

Healthy sleep habits, happy child
You must buy this book to help with your child's sleeping! Buy it as soon as the baby is born so you understand your child's sleep habits. The earlier you understand the way your child's mind and body works, the easier it will be for them to sleep!

The Out-of-Sync Child: Recognizing and Coping with Sensory Processing Disorder, Revised Edition43 reviews
Carol Stock Kranowitz

Perigee Trade, 2006

fabulous book for parents with spd affected kids
This book was recommended by my son's OT as a springboard to understanding SPD. I found it to be enlightening and informative. Some of the technical chapters can get a bit tangled but the advice given is valuable to any parent with an SPD affected child. Awareness is the first step and this book contains tools to help a parent recognize and seek help for their child. I highly recommend it.

An Unquiet Mind: A Memoir of Moods and Madness314 reviews
Kay Redfield Jamison

Vintage, 1996

An Unquiet Mind
This is the most "on key" book I have read about an unquiet mind. Jamison's depiction of the disease is easy to read and to the point. If you want an informative read, don't let this one slip away. It is a must have.

Ten Things Every Child with Autism Wishes You Knew90 reviews
Ellen Notbohm

Future Horizons, 2005

Great for family/friends/ and as a reminder for yourself
This is a short book that helps understanding your child's feelings and concerns and how to deal with them (it does not break down the different ASDs). The book is written as if your child is speaking to you, which makes it more personal. It has 10 short main points from the child's view, then explains every point more detailed in the second part of the book. This book might help people who ...

Driven To Distraction : Recognizing and Coping with Attention Deficit Disorder from Childhood Through ...128 reviews
Edward M. Hallowell, John J. Ratey

Touchstone, 1995

Mr Barrett
I have two nephews with ADD/ADHD and possibly more undiagnosed relatives which made me curious that maybe I had ADD/ADHD. I read this book and I really related to a lot of the stories and it gave me hope that there could be help for me. I wasn't really a problem student, just got in trouble often and had problems reading but I excelled at math and science (although teachers said I was an ...

Dialectical Behavior Therapy Workbook: Practical DBT Exercises for Learning Mindfulness, Interpersonal ...20 reviews
Matthew McKay, Jeffrey C. Wood, ...

New Harbinger Publications, 2007

Amazing resource.
I've read a lot of self-help, pop-psych books targeted at dealing with strong emotions. Most of them seemed true & helpful at the time I was reading them, but fell apart when I tried applying them to life. This book is not only easy to use while you are using it, but it is easy to recall later in the day, or the week, or even a few months later, and easy to use the techniques. I even find ...
