Clement Clarke Moore

Candy Cane Press, 2000

Jan Brett Night Before Christmas
I LOVE Jan Brett's books! I buy them anytime I see them whether on sale, old ones on Amazon as remainders, or new.. They make great gifts. I have a backup of many to give to children, particularly my granddaughters. The illustrations in this one are so beautiful it is really a keepsake to save as well as enjoy. Give it as a gift and you will make some child very happy and a parent happy, too.

Titanic: An Illustrated History40 reviews
Donald Lynch, Ken Marschall

Chartwell Books, 2005

Favorite Titanic Book
This is my favorite Titanic book. It includes everything to a dinner with Bruce Ismay discussing his idea of 3 olympic class ships, to try and try to beat out the Cunard Line to how it affects us now. The pictures are amazing and leave me in awe, everytime I look at them. This book is on the top self, in room, and am very proud to say, this is my alltime favorite book.

Signals: An Inspiring Story of Life After Life64 reviews
Joel Rothschild, Neale Donald Walsch

New World Library, 2000

This book touched my heart, it made me laugh and cry.
This is the first time that I have been moved enough by a book to actually take the time to write a review. I have lost so much because of the devistation of the AIDS epidemic. It is so easy to give up and feel sorry for ones self. Joel made me see the hope and joy even in the most tragic moments of my life. I felt his love on every page. This book is a gift. If you feel hopeless-this book is ...

The Imitation of Christ64 reviews
a Kempis Thomas

Alba House, 1997

Miracle
This is not a review of the book per se (just got it, have not read it yet), but thought I needed to share this. Book arrived with another book (a textbook) in the usual Amazon box, each laying side by side. It was left out in the rain for most of the day by the local carrier until I brought it inside. The entire box was soaked and ruined, tape fallen off and box literally gaping open, all of ...

The 2,000 Percent Solution: Free Your Organization from "Stalled" Thinking to Achieve Exponential Success91 reviews
Donald Mitchell, Carol Coles, ...

Authors Choice Press, 2003

My 2000 Percent Solution - A Whole New Life
I first read "The 2000 Percent Solution" as part of a course for a Rushmore University doctoral program. It sparked in me the desire and determination to get more "bang for the buck" from my efforts, and provided a clear 8-step guide for doing so. The guide to creating 2000 Percent solutions essentially helps you to see differently, and acknowledge the reality of your personal and ...

The Ultimate Competitive Advantage: Secrets of Continuously Developing a More Profitable Business Model137 reviews
Donald Mitchell, Carol Coles, ...

Berrett-Koehler Publishers, 2003

...the perennial gale of creative destruction
Mitchell and Coles have done businesses a tremendous service in writing this excellent book. They have done so by providing a practical toolbox of ideas with which to stimulate entrepreneurs, business leaders and managers to enhance and improve their business prospects in today's very competitive marketplaces. I must admit to having struggled with this book for a long time. Not because of ...

Freight Train54 reviews
Donald Crewes

Bodley Head Children's Books, 1979

A Children's Book Must-Read
A must-read to share with kids! Freight Train uses simple text and clear illustrations. The book can be very interactive for little ones: count the cars, identify colors, make "whoosh" sounds when the train is in motion and find the smoke from the steam engine. Perfect for toddlers!

Seven Roads to Hell50 reviews
Donald R. Burgett

audible.com

The Siege of Bastogne
"Seven Roads to Hell" is paratrooper Donald Burgett's memoire of the defense of Bastogne by elements of the 101st Airborne and 9th Armor Divisions during the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. Burgett, a member of A Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, has captured the foxhole-level details of the heroic defense of that key Belgian crossroads. Burgett picks up the story as his unit ...

Father's Touch53 reviews
Donald D'Haene

Amer Book Pub, 2002

Brilliant memoir - why aren't books like this on Oprah?
Too bad James Fry lied to Oprah. Memoirs are important and she is moving away from promoting them. Father's Touch is both a well-told story and educational at the same time. A must read for those interested in understanding the mind of a pedophile, as the author quotes from his molester/father's writings. This book shows the manipulative skill of molesters as well as the resilience of survivors ...

Evolution: What the Fossils Say and Why It Matters23 reviews
Donald R. Prothero

Columbia University Press, 2007

A must for anyone interested in evolution and/or paleontology
This is a wonderful book, both enjoyable and educational. While a rudimentary knowledge of biology is helpful in fully understanding the book, I believe that even the scientific illiterate would be able to comprehend the majority of this well-written book. The book begins with an overview of science, evolution and creationism. The latter half of the book [and my favorite part] is a review of the ...

Hour of the Dragon20 reviews
Robert E. Howard

Donald M Grant, 1987

Conan and his creator at their best
This book actually began life as a serial in "Weird Tales" in the 1930s. Robert E. Howard (REH) never actually wrote any Conan novels, all of Conan's tales were written for the magazine marketplace. But this is his only novel length Conan tale so it is considered by many to be the only REH Conan novel. That being said, it is easily one of the best Conan stories written. In the tale, Conan is the ...

Stokes Field Guide to Bird Songs: Eastern Region (Stokes Field Guide to Bird Songs)21 reviews
Donald Stokes, Lillian Stokes

Hachette Audio, 1997

good set, very useful
I bought this set at the same time as "Birding by Ear: Eastern and Central North America (Peterson Field Guides)" and am quite happy with the combination. The Stokes CDs have (nearly) all the birds in separate tracks making it easier to play just the ones I want to work with. I'm new at bird songs, so I dumped the disks to my PC and made a subdirectory of "seen" birds. Then I copied to that ...

The Thirteen Clocks35 reviews
James Thurber

Donald I. Fine, 1990

Watch Out For the Todal, by Rory Haglund
Watch out for the Todal James Thurber's The Thirteen Clocks is a delightful tale for people of all ages. I was first introduced to this seemingly conventional story at age five when my father read it to me as a pleasant bedtime story. It was not until I could read for myself that I began to notice what sets this story apart from so many other children's stories--its characters and great ...

The Dixie association24 reviews
Donald Hays

Simon and Schuster, 1984

Should get 10 Stars
The Dixie Association is a perfect book. It is hilarious, wise, profound, and unbelievably beautifully written. It should not be subtitled "Voices of the South". It is THE voice of the South, perfectly captured on paper. Donald Hays has perfect pitch for Southern language, on the street and in the locker room. The basdeball portions are true, interesting and exciting. The picture of the ...

Understanding Variation: The Key to Managing Chaos25 reviews
Donald J. Wheeler

Spc Pr, 1993

Hidden Gem
I can't believe I was only introduced to this in a graduate level class, under the humble (and quite vague) disguise of "modern enterprise systems". That said, this book has tremendous applications beyond IE courses. Astonishing and empowering...and I hope it really catches on for those who can handle a transformation free of charge courtesy of Wheeler....I guess IE's have a strong advantage ...

The PreHistory of The Far Side ®:: A 10th Anniversary Exhibit (Far Side Series)38 reviews
Gary Larson

Andrews McMeel Publishing, 1989

Essential book for "Far Side" fans
So you've got the massive two-volume "Complete Far Side" and figure you're all set, Gary Larson-wise. If so, you're a few cows short of a herd, because you need this book to round out your collection. It's not just a collection of his comics. The book has a discussion of how his career as a cartoonist got started and has examples of his previous effort, a one-newspaper comic in the same style ...

Business Without Borders: A Strategic Guide to Global Marketing24 reviews
Donald A. Depalma

John Wiley & Sons, 2002

Globalization How-to (and How-not-to)
DePalma has produced a detailed, well-reasoned tour de force for companies who need to act on the globalization imperative. He touches on every aspect of the globalization process, including target market analyses, localization, internal corporate issues, and much more. Even companies who are well along in their efforts to operate globally (in every sense of the word) could learn a thing or two ...

Take Command: 10 Leadership Principles I Learned in the Military and Put to Work for Donald Trump25 reviews
Kelly Perdew

Blackstone Audiobooks, 2006

Are you in command?
I recently purchased "Take Command" for a college course. I chose this book because I am a fan of the television show "The Apprentice." I could not have picked a better book to read before I graduate and re-enter the business world. The ten principles that Kelly Perdew learned while attending West Point can be used by anyone who wants to get the most out of life. Duty, Impeccability, ...

Words Their Way: Word Study for Phonics, Vocabulary, and Spelling Instruction35 reviews
Donald R. Bear, Marcia Invernizzi, ...

Merrill Publishing Company, 1995

Very useful for homeschoolers too...
My children attended a public school where this program was used. When I brought them home due to their various LDs/allergies, I balked at the $40 price tag of this book and opted for the less expensive Spectrum Spelling books for their grade level. I found those to be rather annoying because often my children already knew the words. And the ones they didn't know, they would spell correctly on ...
