The Blue Death: Disease, Disaster, and the Water We Drink14 reviews
Robert D. Morris

HarperCollins, 2007

Book Review
This book is a great read. It provides an interesting and exciting history of the search to find the cause of cholera. It then goes on to discuss the status of drinking water in the US up to the present. Dr. Morris provides science to the reader in the form of a fast moving novel. I would reccomend it to anyone.

Dice Angel118 reviews
Brian Rouff

Hardway Pr, 2002

Five Stars! A great read! Get this book!
I found this book and the only regret I have is that the book had to end. Brian Rouff has written a brilliant, hilarious, funny, insightful fictional account of a saloon owner in Las Vegas. Jimmy Delaney (the main character) has his life going the right way (though his ex-wife is no fan of him) when all of the sudden he finds his bank accounts emptied, his saloon broken into and an I.R.S. agent ...

Nobody Likes a Quitter (and other reasons to avoid rehab): The Loaded Life of an Outlaw Booze Writer14 reviews

I rock!
This book is easily the best book I've ever written... the only one, actually. Dan Dunn is great. Dan Dunn is me.

Blue Planet Run: The Race to Provide Safe Drinking Water to the World17 reviews

Earth Aware Editions, 2007

Powerful ....compelling....
Rick Smolan has managed once more to bring together powerful photographs and compelling essays that challenge all of us to see, think, and act differently about something we take for granted everyday - water. I was profoundly moved and even at times angered by what I read and saw. Truly a book to read and reread - and one to pass on to friends, family, colleagues. A gift to the world.....

Pennsylvania Breweries14 reviews
Lew Bryson

Stackpole Books, 2000

Nice guide to Pennsylvania breweries and beer...
This is a good book. It has the type of information that should be in a book about Pennsylvania breweries, including some history for each brewery, their location, where you can buy their beer (including some really nice reviews of various brewpubs--Philadelphia included) and reviews of the beers themselves (honest without bringing personal preference into it). Over all a really nice book for ...

Why Don't They JUST QUIT?14 reviews
Joe Herzanek

Changing Lives Foundation, 2007

Perfect for Family Members
Family members often have nowhere to go with their concerns about their addicted loved one. What do I do? How do I help? How do I balance my love for my child (husband, wife, friend) and my desire to protect them from harmful consequences with the need to do everything within my power to get them help? "Help" almost always means bringing the problem into the open -- asking friends and family ...

The Beer Drinker's Guide to Munich21 reviews
Larry Hawthorne

Independent Pub Group, 2000

good product
Great product. If you would like to get a good feel for Munich, visit some of the biergartens in the book. Pays for itself in less than two coupons (6 provided, although not all 6 locales are convenient). Interesting info on Munich and its biergartens, and getting around the city (and a few great locations outside of the city, i.e. Salzburg). This is the 2nd edition that I've owned.

The Modern Drunkard27 reviews
Frank Kelly Rich

Riverhead Trade, 2005

Counter Oprah's Beach Club Book...
I read this while on vacation at the beach. Please ensure that your cooler is fully stocked prior to cracking the spine. What a great find! This book is too funny for me to do it justice.

Promise You Won't Freak Out: A Teenager Tells Her Mom the Truth About Boys, Booze, Body Piercing and Other ...15 reviews
Doris A. Fuller, Natalie Fuller

Berkley Trade, 2004

It's how I want to raise my teens
Finally, a book that reflects the way I want to raise my soon-to-be teens, but I didn't know it! I'd read several books, all of which didn't touch a nerve until this one. It also helped me to realize it's time to connect up with other non-judgmental guerilla moms. I don't want to put my teens in a bubble, and then be in denial whenever the bubble bursts behind my back. Instead, I want to ...

Moonshine!: Recipes * Tall Tales * Drinking Songs * Historical Stuff * Knee-Slappers * How to Make It * How ...8 reviews
Matthew Rowley

Lark Books, 2007

Well researched, well written and attractively illustrated, a rare find!
An extremely engaging book about an excellent subject! Behind each page a new jewel: be it an anecdote, a recipe, a quote, an illustration or a fact, each and every page was worth reading. Most books about fermentation and/or distillation fall short in one area or another: some lack technical information, others lack historical facts; this book has it all and is written in a very clean and ...

Dr. Ponton writes an unusual book that gives voice to troubled teens and their families, using their engaging stories to teach about contemporary adolescence. Make Some Noise - Over 101 Great Things to do at a Club, Bar or Party8 reviews
Chuck Fresh

Brevard Marketing, 1999

Two thumbs up; three if I had another!
Forget about bikini contests, banana eating contests and all that silly stuff everyone else has been doing the past 10 years. It's no wonder the club business is suffering - it's been incredibly BORING! "Make Some Noise" finally brings some new and sometimes pretty wild contests and promotions to light. I run a mid-sized bar in the Philadelphia suburbs, and this book has been a big part of ...

Bill in a China Shop11 reviews
Katie Weaver, Tim Raglin

Bloomsbury USA Children's Books, 2003

Tea Time Favorite
Bill in a China Shop is a wonderful take on the phrase: bull in a china shop. For, of course, Bill is a bull. A gentlemanly bull who just wants a nice cuppa, beautifully portrayed by the illustrator in natty attire. The rhymes are fresh and catchy. Perfect for families who take tea together, or for reading at a tea party for children. Just delightful.

Toto Coelo: By the whole extent of the heavens9 reviews
Bob Miller

Hats Off Books, 2005

Forty-three Years Today
There are advantages of being a fulltime pastor for forty-three years. Then there are the disadvantages. I try as best I can not to dwell on the disadvantages. But the one that did bother me the most, was not being able to answer the questions of children. Adults seldom ask really hard to answer questions, like, ?What is God?s favorite color?? or ?Are their toys in heaven?? or ?Why is ...

Adolescent Drug & Alcohol Abuse: How to Spot It, Stop It, and Get Help for Your Family8 reviews
Nikki Babbit

Patient Centered Guides, 2000

FAST, EFFECTIVE HELP!
In a nutshell, this book was one of the elements that SAVED MY SON'S LIFE!! If I hadn't read about the stages of addiction (easily described and organized within the book for quick intervention)I wouldn't have realized how serious a situation he was in already. There he was, crashing through the wall to the final stage (despair/suicidal)of addiction and, because he had woven such a web of chaos ...

The Irish Pub Cookbook11 reviews
Margaret Johnson

Chronicle Books, 2005

A great resource for good Irish food.
My husband and I traveled to Ireland in 2002 and fell in love with the country. We ate at local pubs for almost every meal and decided that we needed to learn to replicate many of these meals. He bought me this book for Christmas several years ago and I have used many of the recipes over and over again. We have a St. Patrick's party every year and have used this cookbook almost exclusively. ...

The Parting Glass : A Toast to the Traditional Pubs of Ireland (Irish Pubs)8 reviews
Eric Roth, Eileen McNamara

"Stewart, Tabori and Chang", 2006

Photos on tap
When I'm in Ireland -- which isn't nearly enough -- I try to avoid the trendy new pubs and stick to the joints where the local people go, where you're still likely to find a session in the corner, where the food is simple but hearty, and where the Guinness is pulled with pride. Eric Roth, a Boston-based photographer, pays tribute to the "real" Irish pubs of Ireland in "The Parting Glass." Of ...
