DSM-IV-TR Handbook of Differential Diagnosis3 reviews
Michael B. First

American Psychiatric Publishing, Inc., 2002

Very good learning tool!
I am a 2nd year psychiatry resident, and in that developmental period when differential diagnosis starts to become a real tool in your armamentarium. The book is informative and concise. The introductions to, and discussions of the various psychiatric symptoms are very informative and helpful. They are like having an experienced psychiatrist as your personal tutor. It leaves you wishing the ...

The Clinical Interview Using DSM-IV-TR, Vol. 1: Fundamentals1 review
Ekkehard Othmer, Sieglinde C. Othmer

American Psychiatric Publishing, Inc., 2002

Dr. Othmer is a remarkable teacher
This book (and its companion "The Difficult Patient") are highly readable and very rewarding. As a practicing psychiatrist using it to prepare for the oral boards, I can tell you that I learned many things -- both practical tips and theoretical insights. I had originally thought these two books were "filler" by the APP to capitalize on the release of DSM-IV, but boy was I wrong! It is an ...

DSM-IV-TR TM in Action7 reviews
Sophia F. Dziegielewski

Wiley, 2002

DSM IV TX In Action is a wonderful resourcs
This book was written in 2002 but it continues to be an excellent resource today. Its focus is on the DSM IV TR and the text is "user friendly" and easy to understand. It provides an excellent starting ground in terms of treatment planning for both seasoned and beginning clinicians. I have been especially impressed with the language that is used and the tools the book makes available, such as the ...

American Psychiatric Association

American Psychiatric Publishing, Inc., 2000

DSM-IV Purchase
Recently misplaced my DSM-IV quick-reference manual and needed one desperately for my work. Ordered from Amazon and had my replacement within a week. This little book is a must when you are working within a tight schedule so I really appreciate having Amazon and its sellers as a resource for replacing hard to find items such as the DSM-IV manual.

Study Guide to DSM-IV-TR2 reviews
Michael A. Fauman

American Psychiatric Publishing, Inc., 2002

Invaluable resource in learning the DSM-IV-TR
I bought this book as a study aid to assist me in preparing for my counseling licensure exam. I own the DSM-IV-TR but found that it was difficult for me to learn with it because it was so technical. The study guide breaks the diagnoses down into simpler descriptions, gives case examples of clients with the various disorders, and provides study questions to help you evaluate your progress in ...

DSM-IV-TR Casebook: A Learning Companion to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth ...8 reviews

American Psychiatric Publishing, Inc., 2001

Great Bathroom Book
This is a great book with real-life case vignettes illustrating presentations of most of the diagnoses in DSM-IV-TR. Though initially skeptical, given the contrived case names, the book is excellent. Each case is followed by a discussion of the DSM-IV diagnostic issues raised. An especially neat part of the book is a presentation of historic cases from Blueler, Freud, and others, as well as ...

American Psychiatric Association

Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders DSM-IV-TR Fourth Edition (Text Revision)107 reviews
American Psychiatric Association

American Psychiatric Publishing, Inc., 2000

"Must Have"
A definite "must have" book for any student in a counseling program. Even if not "required", this book makes writing reports so much easier because then you know EXACTLY what is required for deifferent diagnosis. I suggest all counseling/psychology students buy this book as early on in their studies as possible.

Treatment Companion to the Dsm-IV-TR Casebook2 reviews

American Psychiatric Publishing, Inc., 2004

Treatment Companion to the DSM IV TR
This book has good case examples that help you get more familiar with the DSM IV TR. The only regret I have is that I wish I also bought the book that is meant to go with it. Even on it's own, it tells complete case examples and ideas of how to treat the client so it works independently too.

DSM-IV-TR Casebook, Volume 2: Experts Tell How They Treated Their Own Patients2 reviews

DSM-IV-TR Mental Disorders: Diagnosis, Etiology and Treatment3 reviews
Michael B. First, Allan Tasman

Wiley, 2004

Great Book
This is a great book. I read the other review on this book and I have to say that it is definately eskewed. Yes this book offers some of the pharmachological alternatives used for treatments. It also discusses the pros of psychotherapy and CBT and how these can be applied to the treatment process. Another plus to the book offering medications associated with the disorder is as a treatment ...
