BRS Embryology (Board Review Series)8 reviews
Ronald W Dudek

Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2007

Essential aid for the Embryo section on the boards
Overall, a very good book for mastering the embryology part for the Step 1 test. No other embryology text is needed for the boards other than this. This book is far more sufficient. Just make sure you actually know the material from this BRS text to smooth sail this section on the USMLE exam! It is a must to have for Step 1.

The Developing Human: Clinically Oriented Embryology13 reviews
Keith L. Moore, T. V. N. Persaud

Saunders, 2002

Well written and great resource for experienced readers
This is an excellent embryology text IF you already have some background in medical anatomy, morphology, or embryology. Otherwise I reccomend "Before we are born" by the same authors. Same information but less dense and more easily read by a lay audience. The Developing Human is a very dense text and it has excellent clinical correlations in each chapter. This is a book intended for medical ...

High-Yield? Embryology: A Collaborative Project of Medical Students and Faculty (High-Yield? Series)12 reviews
Ronald W Dudek

Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2006

Excellent Review for a low yield subject on the Boards
This is much more concise than the new version. This little book helps you put the H.Y. facts of embryo together not just as a subject on its own but in conjunction to pathology. I would specially recommend the first 3 chapters to get a quick idea of embryo genesis and the cardio, respiratory, GI sections for quick kill on the congenital abnormalities that are extensively talked about in ...

Netter's Atlas of Human Embryology (Netter Basic Science)2 reviews
Larry R. Cochard

Saunders, 2002

Netter's Atlas of Human Embryologogy
It's about time. There has never been a more lucid account of the normal and abnormal processes of human development. Netter's illustrations combined with Cochard's succinct text and learning aids go far beyond any other books published to help further the understanding of embryology.

Before We Are Born: Essentials of Embryology and Birth Defects5 reviews
Keith L. Moore

Saunders Book Company, 2008

great book
I absolutely agree with Michelle Lee (one of the reviewers above) that it is essential to SEE what is happening when you study Embryology. This book does a great job in that sense and I highly recommend it.

Embryology: An Illustrated Colour Text
Barry Mitchell, Ram Sharma

Churchill Livingstone, 2005

Part of the Illustrated Colour Text series, Embryology presents core information on human embryology. The concise text and clear diagrams help to explain complex processes and concepts, and key points boxes aid retention of the most important facts. The science is linked to clinical medicine with clinical boxes. Highlighting relevant medical conditions, and a glossary helps to demystify embryological terms. Text in concise ICT style so core ...

Oral Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, 3E4 reviews
Berkovitz, Holland

Mosby, 2002

Useful textbook for dental educators and researchers.
I found this text useful as a reference text as a dental educator. It is comprehensive and the color histological references are very clearly presented. The photographs of the teeth, as well as the gross anatomical sections, seem slightly out of focus in this edition. Information is presented with references that are further useful and up to date, especially when considering research in the ...

Essentials of Human Embryology1 review
William James Larsen

Churchill Livingstone, 1998

Great Introduction to Embryology
This book is an excellent introductory book on embryology for doctors, medical students, professional students or anyone with an interest in the subject. Clearly written and fabulously illustrated, this book is the best entry-level embryology book I've seen (and I've seen a few).

From Embryology to Evo-Devo: A History of Developmental Evolution (Dibner Institute Studies in the History of ...

The MIT Press, 2007

Choice Outstanding Academic Title, 2007. Although we now know that ontogeny (individual development) does not actually recapitulate phylogeny (evolutionary transformation), contrary to Ernst Haeckel's famous dictum, the relationship between embryological development and evolution remains the subject of intense scientific interest. In the 1990s a new field, evolutionary developmental biology (or Evo-Devo), was hailed as the synthesis of ...

Langman's Essential Medical Embryology

Emphasis is placed on illustrating development, with only the necessary amount of supporting text, helping students to ...

Human Embryology6 reviews
William J. Larsen, Lawrence S. Sherman, ...

Churchill Livingstone, 2001

Larsen's is an excellent textbook for students
I am research scientist (in neurobiology) and have used this textbook during a first-year medical school gross anatomy/embryology course and found it to be an extremely helpful companion to the instructor's lectures. I would highly recommend it to any instructor, medical student or resident, graduate student, or even to undergraduate Biology majors, although this book would probably be too ...

Basic Concepts in Embryology: A Student's Survival Guide3 reviews
Lauren J. Sweeney

McGraw-Hill Professional, 1997

Clear excellent overview of embryology
If you are looking for a clearly presented explanation of the concepts of embryology this book is an excellent choice. While embryology is a complex subject, many of the standard texts and treatises unnecessarily obscure the topic by using verbose and obtuse prose. The author uses direct and relatively straightforward text that makes it much easier to learn about this fascinating subject.

Veterinary Embryology1 review
TA McGeady, P. J. Quinn, ...

Wiley-Blackwell, 2006

A good book for learning animal embryology
I got this book in hope that it would answer some of my questions about embryology. It's a tough topic to learn in college. This book helps in that it has really clear diagrams and good explanations of how and where things fold/migrate and move and so on....I've done plenty of searching on the web and I can't find any other recent vet embryology book specifically for students that isn't from ...
