Zupan Rules!
Sometimes, people who have been "handicapped" in some manner end up withdrawing into themselves. A few of them are downright miserable. Mad at the world for being stuck in the situation they're in... the best they can hope for (because they're depressing to be around) is to have people feel sorry for them. Mark Zupan (who, hopefully, you know from the astoundingly-good, and ...

Great for party favor
I recently did a make-over party and handed these out as favors. Thought this would get the kids off to a good start on their summer reading program. The kids loved them and the story is very thought provoking. Shows kindness to others.

Really Great Cookbook!!!
I received this cookbook as a wedding gift, and I think it has been the one thing I have used over and over. I have yet to make a recipe from this cookbook that is "average." If you make nothing else, the Applebarn Fresh Apple Cake is worth the price of this book. I need to buy a second volume because the original is wearing out!

Rachel's strongest to date!
Exactly what, I asked myself, is a Diva? Well, according to most dictionaries I checked, Diva is a noun, and it describes a "distinguished female operatic singer; a female operatic star." Synonym: prima donna Hmmm. I've noticed in today's usage, Diva seems to be applied to anyone who is at the pinnacle of their career, or knowledge, or special in some other way. Let's find out if it ...

Historically important snapshot of baseball
Were Charles Conlon still alive, I would track him down and kiss his feet for capturing in such vivid detail the historic giants of baseball. The book features remarkable photos of the greatest baseball players of most of the first half of this century. Suitable for framing, the photos typically depict individual players and small groups, often in game action. The well preserved photographs ...

Judge the book on its own terms
Let me preface this by saying I was a classmate of John's at the Iowa Writers' Workshop in the mid-90's. I remember discussing several of the essays included in this collection, and being incredibly impressed with both the work and the author. The time, imagination, detail, obsession, intelligence, honesty and humble nature of both the essays and the essayist should at the very least inspire a ...

A lot of help from just one book
Over a year ago, I took a teleworkshop with Steven Van Yoder and Dave Taylor, called "Growing your business with Google". It was right at the time that I was preparing to launch my new business and website/blog, The Entrepreneurial MD. I listened hard, and read both Steve and Dave's book (Dave's is the excellent "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Growing your Business with Google") and one year ...

Best Basketball Coaching Book I Have Seen
I have over 50 books and videos relating to baksetball coaching. Some deal with certain aspects of the game, others deal with a system. A System of Game Execution is by far the best coaching book I have ever seen. It tells of the history of basketball, how that history is related to the system, the philosophy of the system, drills for the system, and how everything within the system ties ...

The Science Fiction Hall of Fame, Volume One: The Greatest Science Fiction Stories of All Time Chosen by the Members of the Scie
This is a great book, if you are a sci fi fan. The vendor was first rate. The book arrived quickly and in excellent condition. There are some true sci fi classics in this volume, and the authors from the "Golden Era" of Sci Fi are all represented here. I intend to keep this book on my shelf forever. Myron

Successful Quest
I've known Bob (Bubba) all my life and this is just another example of the success he's had at whatever he tries. His book will be interesting for all people, those into fishing and those as myself who are not. Bob's story telling is great and I enjoyed the book from beginning to end. His conservation efforts should be applauded. Hope he finds time to write some more.

Awesome Book!
There is simply no other way to put it-- this book is hilarious. I was lying on my bed reading it and laughing out loud! If you love humor with a touch of everything else this book is perfect. It ends off perfectly. At first I thought the book looked a little babyish, but it was just sooo awesome. Enjoy!

A Real Page Turner
Kronick's page turner develops a unique aspect of the "actor as genius" as the reader follows his travails in a world of inauthentic people. The author beautifully fleshes out his main character, Matt Fleming, in describing the challenges he faces as a creative person in the theatrical arena. Matt's ingenuous character made it particularly poignant for this reader. A good read!

Well Worth The Price!
I had purchased this a few weeks ago. I work a lot of hours and I have a 2hour daily commute. I decided I was tired of blah foods and wanted to do something about it. So, I purchased some new cookbooks. This one is one that I have been using the most. I made a Chili Soup, Easy Brown Rice, Beef Stew, a Baked Rice dish. At tops my prep time was around 10 minutes. There is a lot to recommend in this ...

San Francisco Bay Guardian Review
These days, if you were to hear the expression "ill fame," you might conjure up the Us Weekly mug shot of some wannabe celebrity. But in the San Francisco of 150 years ago, terms like "ill fame" and "frail" were slurs branding a woman as a prostitute -- and, as such, crop up with colorful frequency in Oakland author Erika Mailman's seductive debut novel, Woman of Ill Fame. Mailman deftly ...

What a woman!
I must say at once that I'm very impressed with Kate William's writing. She writes in a modern style but with no discordant notes to take away from the period to which she is transporting the reader. Emma was born to an impoverished family in England in 1765. After a hard battle just to survive as a child, she spent a short stint as a domestic before following her natural bent as a theatrical, ...

a MUST-READ!!
I just finished reading AUDREY, WAIT!, and I can honestly say that it was one of the most enjoyable books I've read in a long time, with one of the most loveable characters. The main character, Audrey, dumps her boyfriend at the start of the novel -- and almost immediately is thrust into the world of fame when the ex writes a hit song about her. This book is so much fun for a lot of reasons ...

Ogilvy would've been proud
I was sent this book for free but I must admit that initially I didn't really feel too excited about either the author or the topic owing to my aversion to the Madison Ave advertising industry in general. When I did open it I was expecting to read about how great the advertising industry was and how Dusenberry was the cheerleader for it. Not so. Dusenberry actually steps back a level and talks ...

Excellent Book - not really much more to be said.
I was really impressed with Oliver's other two books about the Tag Teams and Canadian wrestlers so I was pretty excited when I saw this title. And it did not disappoint. The bios are solid and I really liked the way that he split up the heel types and didn't try to mash it all into one big list. For any fan of wrestling, hardcore or casual, this is a must for the library.
