Apples and Pumpkins (Stories to Go!)3 reviews
Anne Rockwell

Aladdin, 2005

A wonderful seasonal story for young children!
My 4 year old class really enjoyed this story and the cooking activities we did as follow up. The illustration is beautiful and the prose is appealing to young ears.

Five Silly Turkeys3 reviews

Price Stern Sloan, 2005

Awesome Turkey book
I bought this for my daughter's first Thanksgiving. She loved it. The feathers are great for her to pull and chew on. This story is a cute, fun little ditty.

Vunce Upon a Time
J.otto Seibold

Chronicle Books, 2008

Dagmar is not like other vampires. He's shy he's afraid of humans and . . . he's a vegetarian! But even more than he likes vegetables Dagmar loves candy. And when he hears about all the treats he can get on Halloween he knows he has to be brave and venture out into the human world. A wonderful new book from the author and illustrator of Olive the Other Reindeer.

Shake Dem Halloween Bones15 reviews
W. Nikola-Lisa

Houghton Mifflin, 2000

One of the best books!
This has to be one of the best books! My kids- 5 & 2- love books, we read all the time and are always at the library and bookstore. They both instantly loved this book and we read it over and over. They both get up and dance and sing right along with me. I highly recommend this for any age. I'm positive it will be on our book shelf all year and not just at Halloween!

The Chocolate Snowman Murders (Chocoholic Mysteries, No. 8)4 reviews
JoAnna Carl

NAL Hardcover, 2008

A tasty mystery to sink your teeth into!
I have all the chocoholic books and I love them all. However, I think it is safe to declare this one the best in the series so far. The last book was a bit of a disappointment but this has renewed my faith in the author, so much so that it was even worth the hardcover price. The story centers around the small town of Warner Pier, Michigan and its christmas festival, WinterFest, in hopes to ...

Lighting a Lamp: A Diwali Story (Festival Time)2 reviews
Jonny Zucker

Barron's Educational Series, 2004

Nice Introduction to Diwali!
I really am pleased how it approaches its subject matter. Most children's books about international holidays are too technical and long to be used as a read aloud. This book can be useful and provide useful information. If a student wants more they can read a more complex book later. It also helps include an ESOL child's holiday in class, even young kids.

The Little Scarecrow Boy6 reviews
Margaret Wise Brown

HarperTrophy, 2005

great!
I just read this book to my first grade class and they loved it. It's a great book to introduce the idea of never giving up and feeling proud after a job well done.

The Keeping Quilt (Aladdin Picture Books)24 reviews

Aladdin, 2001

Why didn't I know about this book?
A friend showed me her copy of this book and I immediately ordered four copies. Every quilter should have a copy and I would love to see every child have one too. (It's a great gift!) What a beautiful family story! One thing I really like is that the illustrations are of real people.

Dial, 2001

Five Little Pumpkins (Harper Growing Tree)7 reviews
Public Domain

HarperFestival, 1998

Halloween Board Book Not To Miss!
Dan Yaccarino captures the essence of Halloween with simple, yet expressive pictures of pumpkins, ghosts and a black cat. My one year old son Ryan loves it when i read the story of the Five Little Pumpkins. He points to all the different pumpkin faces and loves their orange glow. The book wipes clean and withstands being dragged all over the house! I am a big fan of Dan Yaccarino's work, love his ...

Touch and Feel Halloween5 reviews
DK Publishing

DK Preschool, 2000

Best touch and feel book
My 16 mo. old daughter has at least 10 of these books, and this one is her favorite. The texture parts are large, unlike the nfl book, and she loves the kitty page! There are also pages of a wizard, a scarecrow, a pumpkin, and a pirate.

The First Thanksgiving (Step-Into-Reading, Step 3)3 reviews

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1990

Good early-reader history book!
I browsed and browsed before finding a book I felt was proper to read to my two young children about Thanksgiving; this one was it. I'm not keen on politically correct mush, and this book is not politically correct mush. While it is somewhat vague regarding the hardships of the Pilgrims and their relations with the American Indians, I don't fault it for that; books for young children (mine ...

It's Pumpkin Time!3 reviews
Zoe Hall

Scholastic Paperbacks, 1999

Wonderful seasonal book!
We just bought this for our 2 year-old, and she absolutely loves it. The pictures are bold and colorful, reminiscent of Eric Carle-type pictures. This book tells the story of how pumpkins are grown, and how they eventually become Jack-o-lanterns. It is a wonderful book, especially for the price.

Allie Gator's Halloween Hayride (John Deere)5 reviews

Running Press Kids, 2006

Allie Gator's Halloween Hayride
My 4yr old son just loves tractors. And with the John Deere books he really gets into the bright colored pages. Then he likes to tell his own story from what he sees from the pages. In which I think that it helps with his vivid imagination.

Madeline's Christmas9 reviews
Ludwig Bemelmans

Viking Juvenile, 1985

Different but good Christmas story
Im not exactly sure what people are looking for with this book. It was written quite some time ago,and times have changed. So this book wont have santa in it. Not so bad. It doesnt really carry a religious theme, but I guess that could make it more "readable" for children of every faith? I grew up reading Madeline. My 4 yr old daughter loves every Madeline story, and not because they are ...

My First Halloween Board Book3 reviews
DK Publishing

DK Preschool, 2004

fun to read
I will definately be purchasing other "my first" books after ordering this one for my 7 month old nephew. I plan on giving it to him in his halloween bag and I'm sure he will keep busy looking at all the colorful pictures . I also like how it has fun ideas for parents such as on the page with halloween food it shows pizza slices cut out like skulls - very cute!

The Best Halloween Ever12 reviews
Barbara Robinson

HarperTrophy, 2006

...a spooktacular tale featuring some tricks, and quite a few treats...
It's a known fact that whenever there's trouble, the six Herdman kids are behind it. Lose a pair of pants? It's the Herdmans. Find your window broken? The Herdmans are behind it. Find yourself painted green? Blame the Herdmans. It never gets old. Or, at least it never got old before. But this year is different. This year, as everyone is preparing for Halloween, and loading up on candy, the Mayor ...

Great ideas. I gave it as a gift but skimmed it prior to wrapping it. Good stuff

A Box of Treats: Five Little Picture Books about Lilly and Her Friends10 reviews

HarperFestival, 2004

Five Sweet Treats...and what that means
As mentioned in other reviews; this set of books is nicely smallish (5 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches), and beautifully drawn, and the 5 stories are lovely. What no one has yet bothered to mention is the answer to "What do you get?" in this smallish, prettily drawn and nicely written set? You get 5 small, hard cover books in a nice, slick board box; Lilly's Chocolate Heart, Owen's Marshmellow Chick, ...
