Matthew Tell Me About Heaven
What a wonderful book and I highly recommend it to everyone interested in knowing what life "on the other side" is like. I admit I was skeptical at first. As I read Matthew's accounts of life on the other side I grew more amazed at his descriptions. Many things I had never even thought about were addressed fully in this book. Since we won't know until we actually get there I can only hope that ...

Be Grateful
I am so lucky to have come across this elegantly written book. The author has a way of sharing spiritual insights in a simple style that both informs and inspires. Her true life accounts of healings were very profound and moving. One in particular helped me find a solution to a problem I'd been grappling with for years. Open this book to any page and you'll find something of personal value.

. If all you read in this book is "The Audacious Cruise of the Speedy", you will have gotten your money's worth. If the only stories you read are the two chapters from the Nagle Journel, "For the Good of My Soul, 1795," and "Mad Dickey's Amusement, 1798-1800", you will have gotten your money's worth. But you get more than this. You get a total of 22 stories picked from many to capture the ...

A valued companion to the study of the Civil Rights Movement
I think that this book is a valued companion to Taylor Branch's epic work "Parting the Waters". Together, they make an unbeatable pair of study aids for one of America's most turbulent periods. While P.T.W. is a more dispassionate third person chronicle, E.O.T.P. is more personally driven. It brings to life individuals like Bayard Rustin, Stokley Carmichael, John Lewis and other giants ...

Why Che's Guerrillas Lost
Did the capture and execution of Che Guevarra prove that the military actions he led in Bolivia in 1966-67 were doomed to failure? This interview with Bolivian participant Rodolfo Saldaņa reveals the opposite. His captivating description of how fertile the ground was in Bolivia and throughout South America for revolution includes the mass support and financial aid given to the guerrillas by tin ...

Best Sports Book I Ever Read!
Mr. Mirlis' capacity to capture the thoughts and recollections of these wonderful sportsmen (and women) really made me (and my friends) feel like I was "being there" (of course, no pun intended!). In all seriousness, this book held my interest and I'm proud to say that I am not only a friend of Mr. Mirlis', but that I also own his wonderfully written book.

Forty-five fascinating accounts of every sailor's worst nightmare. Whether you own a sailboat, or just go sailing regularly, buy this book! Even if you don't sail, it is still a morbidly interesting read. A must read for ALL Americans
Maj. Chuck Larson is to be commended for compiling the heart-wrenching, uplifting real-life accounts of our nation's heroes. I believe it will change the way most people view the men and women that sacrifice so much for America's freedom. It's real life... this is not fiction. You will be amazed at the self-sacrifices, the heroism, the humility and the optimism. Forget what the media is ...

Must reading for WWII buffs
Ms. Wiggins has scooped other World War II and U-boat writers with this excellent rendering of recent and unique first-hand interviews recorded from all levels (admiral to seaman) of German U-boat survivors. The author deftly sets the scene for each of these adventures, but rightfully leaves the telling of their individual stories to their own words. Besides the substance of the tales ...

From the source's mouth
From the collection of the Library of Congress, editor Noel Rae has compiled an enthralling and absorbing mosaic of history from 1600 to 1900. Rather than distill and interpret from his primary sources, Rae has let the people speak for themselves in diaries, letters, newspaper accounts, and book excerpts. The book is divided into eleven chapters and "follows the general progression of life from ...

As a psych nurse, I found this book to be not only accurate, but very engaging. There are a couple others with different Axis I diagnoses that I'm going to get as well. Thinking of purchasing some for the psych unit to help newly-diagnosed folks understand this isn't the end of the world, there is hope, and there are others out there who understand.

Well-chosen, well-edited collection for Everest junkies
To mark the 50th anniversary of the first successful climb to the summit of Mount Everest, editor Lewis assembled thirty chapters written by literal Everest eyewitnesses. Not every writer whose account he includes climbed the mountain at all, let alone made it to the summit. The earliest chapter is set in 1913; the last, in 1999. The writers take us from early survey missions, during which ...

Rare and Outstanding Soviet Memoir. A Must read
The vast majority of ink spilled on WWII submarines has centered upon German U-boats and the Allied effort to defeat them. The reason is understandable: the German U-Boat campaign offers readers an impressive array of engagements, personalities, and technological advances; its geographic scope was substantial, blanketing the Atlantic Ocean from its icy northern reaches to its balmy southern ...

This book is one of the best ever written about Albania. The interesting thing is, that it doesn't contains the history of men and politicians that can be read everywhere else, but tells about the lifes of the people of all ages. This is a wonderful book for anybody interested in the history of the American West. The book contains short vignettes of what the author calls "firsthand history", i.e., contemporaneously written letters, journals, newspaper articles, etc. all the way from Cortez' conquest of the Aztecs through modern day Silicon Valley. Along the way, you learn that Levi Strauss did not invent Levi's (he ...

While, no question, musical talent speaks loud and clear, a good producer and a good engineer sure help raise the volume level. George Martin, Sam Phillips and Quincy Jones you probably know, but the insights of others like Bob Rock (Metallica), Norman Smith (Pink Floyd), ...
