Great Grandmother's Thoughts
An item in the Michigan State Alumni magazine about this recognized author inspired me to order 3 copies of this book. Children enjoy the sing-song rhyming words that make it fun to read. The illustrations are beautiful and cleverly done. It wasn't until I received the books that I realized at least one great granchild is too mature for the reading level of "The Pout-Pout Fish". I would have ...

Of Human Descent
Your Inner Fish is an interesting book by Neil Shubin who is an anatomy professor at the University of Chicago. In this book, Shubin attempts to find links from early life forms all the way up to the present modern human. He devotes a chapter to discuss the development of each of the various body parts over time. Briefly summarizing: In Chapter one, we learn about his co-discovery of the ...

Wonderful Book
We eat a lot of fish but I was running out of ideas so I bought this book. The first dish I made was the Shrimp Scampi because my mother showed up with fresh off the boat shrimp. It had to be the best scampi I have ever eaten, fresh shrimp aside. It was simple, easy and I did follow the instructions exactly, so it came out perfectly cooked. The dishes are not complicated, the sauces are ...

The more you give, the more you will receive...
I was initially amazed to find that this story was considered controversial by some, particularly by conservatives, unfortunately including conservative Christians. You have to really twist the intended message of this story to make it about communism or giving away one's uniqueness to blend in, or something along those lines. The message is, I think, much more simple and at the same time more ...

Short but sweet
This book is about 10 pages long and only a few words on every page, but my 16 month year old baby likes it. He also likes that he can play with the fish on top of the book. It still kinda teaches about colors and numbers one to five. A Preschooler would probably get bored with this, but just right for babies.

Artie at his finest! GREAT EASY READ!
Too Fat To Fish was a wonderful look into mr. artie lange's life and struggles. This book starts when he was just a small child and covers all the way through to his USO tour. After reading this book i have much more respect and love for Artie. He is very candid in describing exactly what he was feeling and doing at any given time. This book was such an easy read that even my husband read the ...

Love, love, love it!
Who can honestly say they don't like Dr. Seuss?? (Okay - maybe a few can...). But, every kid I have ever known, big or small, loves this book ~ and I am one of them. It's fun, colorful, goofy and can be read over and over again without getting stale.

This Book is Tasteless! And Impossible to Put Down...
Do you want to read about anal hair? Of course not!!! The only problem is... secretly... you DO! I thought this book was as interesting and funny as it was gross. A better gift for a man, but oh well, my husband has a sense of humor. Remember those old Encyclopedia Brown stories you read when you were a kid? Well, this is the adult version. A perfect book for any fact junkie who likes to be ...

Excellent Reference for Identification Purposes & More
I found this book to be incredibly helpful in identifying two "mystery" fish caught this summer in an inland lake Northern Michigan. This book provides a fairly in-depth summary of each respective fish, of which there are many, and interesting facts about habitat, identification, and much more. I would highly recommend for any fisherman (or fisherwoman) who occasionally hooks the unknown fish!

Another winner from Mark Kurlansky
Anyone with a passion for coastal United States will appreciate Mark Kurlansky's portrait of Gloucester. He captures the essence of Gloucester and at the same time the challenges of its fishing community. While most news journalists simply write off this great working port, Kurlansky leaves us with an appreciation of not only Gloucester's robust past but its link to today. The Last Fish Tale ...

Great Childhood Memory
I'm now 23 years old and I'm sure this book was a hand me down at the time it was a big part of my life. Almost forgot about it until recently. Just watched an old home movie of a 3 year old me telling my friend "we all know what happens when you feed the goldfish too much!" as I proceed to say "They get too big! That happens in my book, and they didn't have the mommy and daddy in the book so it ...

Fish Food for Thought
I just spent a long weekend catching up on this series by reading books 2-4. I have to say I enjoyed "So Long and Thanks for All the Fish" far more than I enjoyed the previous two books in the "increasingly inaccurate trilogy." The difference for me is that with this fourth novel Adams seems to take a far more focused approach to the story instead of running around like a kid in the toy aisle ...

Gardner the Great
I was lucky to get to know Martin Gardner's writings when I was a kid. For me, Gardner will always be the guy who wrote the celebrated and long-running (25 years) monthly column "Mathematical Games", found in the back pages of _Scientific American_. It is true that Gardner didn't always confine himself strictly to mere mathematics; his column was the first introduction I got to the pictures of ...
