The Motley Fool Personal Finance Workbook : A Foolproof Guide to Organizing Your Cash and Building Wealth8 reviews
David Gardner, Tom Gardner, ...

Fireside, 2003

Great book...
I bought this book about a year after college, when I wanted to come up with a plan to get rid of some credit card debt and begin saving money. This guide is fun and interesting, yet informative. It guides you step-by-step through good personal finance habits, and allows you to prioritize what goals you have for the future. The most insightful to me was when it asks you to name the things you ...

Chocolate On The Brain: Foolproof Recipes for Unrepentant Chocoholics7 reviews
Kevin Mills, Nancy Mills

Houghton Mifflin, 2000

Clever writing, most excellent subject matter
I found this book at our local public library, and after a quick peruse, found that I must own it. I enjoyed the author's humorous, clever writing and tasty recipes. (Didn't hurt that it was about one of my favorite subjects!) I haven't enjoyed a chocolate book this much since Sandra Boynton's "Chocolate: The Consuming Passion."

Great for an un-crafty mama like me!
I've already bought this book for two other friends because it makes a very uncrafty mama like me into an oohs and ahs mom around the neighborhood. I've got people asking where things are from and I'm proud to say "I made it!" Easy instructions, great crafts and a must have for any mom (or dad).

The Baker's Dozen Cookbook : Become a Better Baker with 135 Foolproof Recipes and Tried-and-True Techniques15 reviews
The Baker's Dozen

William Morrow Cookbooks, 2001

An Excellent Invitation to Baking. Buy It!
`The Baker's Dozen Cookbook' lists at least 14 authors on the cover, the proverbial baker's dozen of 13 plus editor, Rick Rodgers, a very notable cookbook author in his own right (see, especially, his `Kaffeehaus' on Austrian coffee and pastry shops). On the surface, this looks like just another collection of recipes by famous bakers. Three years ago, before I started reviewing cookbooks, I ...

Camilla V. Saulsbury, 2004

Well used, very well liked
This is a cookbook I really do use--a lot. I like some of the very easiest recipes in here, especially the variations on the chocolate chip cookies. They really taste unique. A friend of a friend who worked as a pstry chef thought the peppery ginger chocolate chip cookies (they have cryst. ginger and pepper mixed in) were brilliant and wanted the recipe--thy're that good. Smart ideas, smart book, ...

Biscuit Bliss: 101 Foolproof Recipes for Fresh and Fluffy Biscuits in Just Minutes5 reviews

Harvard Common Press, 2003

Great American Answer to Tapas and Mezes
James Villas is an old school culinary writer. He was a friend and confidant of both James Beard and Craig Claiborne. He was born and raised in North Carolina and many of his books have featured Southern cooking subjects and styles. This book is no exception. The book is an almost perfect follow-up to his last effort, `Crazy About Casseroles' in that both books deal with a single subject which is ...

Creative Homeowner, 2003

Finally, what I've been looking for!
My friends and family all know I'm crazy about growing roses and collecting rose books. I'm often asked for just one book that a beginner could use easily, yet still not outgrow as his experience and interest expand. I know a number of books that fill part of this need, but not all. Finally I have found one I can recommend without reservation. This book covers the range from modern roses to ...

Your Shirt Is Not an Oven Mitt!: A Kitchen Survival Manual with 150+ Foolproof Recipes3 reviews
Debbie Puente

St. Martin's Griffin, 2004

Should be required reading for every new cook
I ordered this book as a birthday gift for my son for two reasons: one, he's a disaster in the kitchen, and two, if not for Ramen noodles, the child would starve. The book includes more than 150 recipes, only 14 of which are for Ramen. Chapters include recipes for drinks, sandwiches, and surprisingly sophisticated--but still simple to prepare--entrees, salads and desserts. These recipes will ...

Deal Power: 6 Foolproof Steps to Making Deals of Any Size3 reviews
Marc Diener

Owl Books, 1998

Practical and well written. Better than "Getting to Yes".
A valuable handbook for deal making and negociation in general. Diener's style is succinct and witty. His book is a common-sensical restatement of the components of a deal, from the preparation to the hand-shake, to the renegociation. Diener's approach is much more thorough & practical than Fisher & Ury, with visual aids for the laity.

Total Sports, 2001

A Golf Book for Golfers Who Want to Swing like a Pro
This is the most intelligent golf book on the swing on the market. Pictures of poor swings contrasted with good swings demonstrate swing flaws that all amateurs can understand and then correct. This book, unlike any other, helped me understand the importance of the position of the right arm and wrist in the swing. That position includes not only the angle created by the forearm and wrist and ...
