finally something that makes sense
This book is a real find. It shows some of the patterns on the guitar neck that make playing infinitely more enjoyable and easy. Why every guitar teacher doesn't use this book is beyond me. Its like the difference between an analog watch (one with hands) and a digital. With the analog a glance will show the pattern of the time; a digital actually has to be read and interpreted. Same thing ...

Boy, was I wrong!
I spent time with the Bass EncycloMedia and am very impressed! As a professional bass player for over 30 years, I didn't think I had much to learn from the Bass EncycloMedia. Boy, was I wrong! This book is filled with practical and highly musical techniques and information that will benefit bass players who have passed beyond the "beginner" stage. The book is written the way most bass ...

To answer the critical reviews
For all the reviews that take issue with this series for one small issue or the other you miss the point. A book is written for the masses. No author can take into account that you were born without a pinkie finger or that you don't have the time to go through the whole book slowly. This series is for the SERIOUS guitar student who wants to understand the guitar in a way that almost no other ...

Very good!
I have this and the first in the series. This is of the same quality as the first one (just more advanced): Very good instructional, it's my favourite. Very clear tabs in the booklet, the video clips are also good; W.Mann plays the songs at different speeds, also goes through them step by step.

The most readable music theory book by far!
I've tried a few music theory books over the years but they put me to sleep better than any drug. Here is a truly exceptional work that should wake you up musically. I use it alternate evenings with his equally excellent, Guitar From Scratch. The pace is that of a patient teacher, which he very obviously is. I plan to buy his subsequent books once I have this one mastered.

Excellent teaching & learning tool
Fretboard Mastery is an excellent book for any guitar teacher looking for a great text to use when working with students. It's perfect for helping in building a progressive, organized curriculum, especially when used in conjunction with a couple other books on theory (such as Edly's Music Theory for Practical People and The Everything Music Theory Book. After all, Fretboard Mastery covers a ...

Really helps to put the pieces of the puzzle together
I have been playing the guitar off and on for a number of years and never seemed to progress beyond a certain point. I have purchased books and videos which taught me how to play particular riffs, scales or chords, but I still ended up not really understanding what I was doing. As a result, I would start playing for a while and get frustrated by the fact I only had pieces of a puzzle and not a ...

Best Scale Book
I have read and studied many different scale books. This one surpasses, by far, all the others. It has something for everyone from beginner to advanced. It is presented in such a way that you learn the fretboard while learning all the different patterns at the same time. Convincing students of the importance of scales is in showing them the practicality of them and this book certainly does ...

Mr. Holbrook's Guitar Books
I first became aquainted with Mr. Holbrooks guitar instruction offerings several years ago when he sold his "Guitar Note Book" and "Blue Guitar Note Book". While I had several other books and manuals for learning, I found these plastic embossed pages easier to work with and offering specific chord/note information for varied keys and scales, broken down to make them easier to work with and ...

Very interesting and helpful
I would consider myself an advanced beginner at this point, having messed 'round a bit with the guitar and mandolin over the years. My dad bought me an ukulele when we were in Hawaii, and I have found it much easier to play than the guitar. I already have a pretty good understanding of music theory, having played the piano for about 40 years, and this book is very helpful translating the ...

Excellent Learning Source
Having always been a rock-based musician, I never really had to learn some of the standard and jazz chord progressions. This book has helped explain many of the basis of those progressions and has made it easier for me to figure out early-era standards on my own. Somehow, this book has made more sense to me than others I have tried over the years. Recommended for other 'don't really care, but ...

Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant!
I have been an on and off "try to learn the guitar" player for about 15 years. I received the box set for xmas. I have learned more in one week than I have in the last 15 years. This is simply brilliant. Yes, you can find some CAGED theory on the internet for free... But I have yet to find any useful CAGED scale theory. This is unbelievable. I am more excited about playing my guitar than ...
