The Code Book - Evolution Of Secrecy From Mary Queen Of Scots To Quantum Cryptography
Anchor / Random House
what the others said
This book is one of the most highly-rated non-fiction books on Amazon, and for good reason. I won't reiterate the other reviews except to say that the clarity of presentation of complex material is extraordinary. The one caveat is that the book is now ten years old, so you'll need to look for something beyond this to bring you up to the present.

Simon & Schuster, 2003
History comes alive!
For a 992 page piece of nonfiction, there are times when this biography reads like a page turner. Because the late forties, early fifties is a time period all but ignored in most public school History classes I was ignorant of many aspects of the Truman presidency, and certainly about his life in general. This tome has cleared up that problem for me! McCullough is obviously a good writer and ...

Martin the Warrior: A Tale from Redwall
This is in my opinion the best book of a simply amazing series. It follows the story of Martin the Warrior, a legendary character in the Redwall series. Although it wasn't the first book written in the series chronologically, it's probably the best to read first - and if you were to only read a single Redwall book it should be this. Courage, honor, romance, adventure, revenge...this book ...

Mossflower: A Tale from Redwall
Best book in the universe!
I have read many, many, great books. Mossflower would totally be at the top of the list! I started reading it, and I just couldn't put it down! The plot and characters draaw you in, until you fell like you are in Mossflower woods, helping Martin, young Dinny, and Gonff find Salamandstrom. This book is amazing, and I definitely reccomend it for ages 6 and up!
Left to Tell: Discovering God Amidst The Rwandan Holocaust
Left To Tell
A heart warming real life story of forgiveness and faith. Unbelievable courage and belief in God while enduring the worst kind of evil, genocide of an entire people. I recommend it for anyone who wishes to be inspired by ones capacity to forgive.
The Revolution: A Manifesto
Grand Central Publishing
I remember first hearing about Ron Paul from a young guy at work. It was convenient to see humor in a guy that wanted to end all known agencies including education from our system. The young man at work donated his last 25 dollars to the Ron Paul foundation. Boy did we give him hell...laughing away. THEN, I was complaining to myself about having to vote between "the lesser evils" every time at ...
From a Name to a Number: A Holocaust Survivor's Autobiography
A unique perspective
The unique persective given in Mr. Wiener's book, gave me as a reader both a lesson in history and also a profound view of tolerance and forgiveness. After reading the book, I was fortunate enough to hear Mr. Wiener speak at Pacific University Oregon. You feel the power of his message in the book and he fortifies that outlook in person. As with most autobiographical material, Mr. Wiener tells in ...
Musashi: An Epic Novel of the Samurai Era
Harper & Row, Publishers/Kodansha International
One of my absolute favourites
Musashi is a beautiful story and well worth the few weeks it took me to get through it. It is very long and slow-moving in some places and the translation gives it an unusual feel. There are too many characters to keep track of unless you're reading very carefully. But despite this, Musashi captured my heart. Perhaps it was because the characters were so beautifully realistic and both ...

Bradley Trevor Greive
Andrews McMeel Publishing
Great book, even better pictures
I bought the Bradley Trevor Grieve books after reading one in a waiting room. I instantly loved it and the ideas it expressed. I bought them to read to my children (who love the pictures) but I also find myself reading them when ever I need a new outlook on my hectic life. Simple, yet thought provoking.

Halls of Fame: Essays
Judge the book on its own terms
Let me preface this by saying I was a classmate of John's at the Iowa Writers' Workshop in the mid-90's. I remember discussing several of the essays included in this collection, and being incredibly impressed with both the work and the author. The time, imagination, detail, obsession, intelligence, honesty and humble nature of both the essays and the essayist should at the very least inspire a ...

Don't Leave Home Without It.
What can I say? Life is not the same "in Christ" without reviewing "My Utmost For His Highest" devotional. It never gets old. I have read it everyday for over 10 years and it is "new" like THE WORD every time I read it. It is a very easy step to take daily to "let this mind be in you which is in Christ Jesus". Oswald will always point you back to Christ in everyday life.

A Story of Redemption
This is a story about redemption. It is a memoir of the Iraq war with a beautiful twist. Jay Kopelman is a modern day warrior who had dream of being a Marine since boyhood. His mission in Iraq is to kill and killing came easy to this desensitized warrior class. Then Kopelman met the little bundle of fur who had managed to survive the bombing of a city. As a result Kopelman learns he can cry, he ...
Is Life Worth It? Sex, Money and Power from a Psychic's Point of View
Clever and Historical
I found that this book has a lot of history in it. It was nice to read about psychic Stephen's views. I am a firm believer in being open minded and this psychic book made me feel more open minded then ever. I clearly wanted to get a taste of psychic science in a nut shell and I did. This was the 3rd psychic book that I have read and I found it to be different and somewhat entertaining. I ...
No True Glory: A Frontline Account of the Battle for Fallujah
Great, tells the true story of our brave Marines, and exposes the flaws of other news reports and politics.
This book is great, I loved it. It details how the Marines were deployed, attacked, stopped, restarted and stopped again. This exposes the political and military leaders lack of communication, and proof that if we simply listened to the troops, we could have avoided this. It shows how exaggerated the civilian casualties truly were, and what brave and heroic warriors serve us. Details the combat, ...
Chasing Ghosts: A Soldier's Fight for America from Baghdad to Washington
An Honest Account
Paul Rieckhoff gives an honest account of life in the early part of the invasion. Poor planning and egotistical views of the US's ability to free Iraq and it's people created unthinkable situations for unprepaired soldiers. Rieckhoff takes you into his own experiences dealing with these situations and gives a soldiers account of how he went into war with the army that he had, not the army that ...
