The Rule of Saint Benedict12 reviews
St. Benedict

Vintage, 1998

Listening for the spirit...
The Rule of St. Benedict is a fairly short book, usually printed in fewer than 100 pages, with its 73 chapters of a few paragraphs in length at most. Here the entirety of the Rule is contained in 70 pages. It is a good example of the statement, 'good things come in small packages'. This particular volume comes from the Vintage Spiritual Classics series, and there is no doubt that the Rule of ...

The photographer's guide to Yosemite
Yosemite is one of my favorite places and I own many books on the subject and usually am there shooting photos once a year. I love this book, first it inspires me then it teaches me and then it pushes me to go again. I hike and camp constantly and have books on the many places all over the country but this one is usually out for others to play with. Microsoft® Office Home and Student 2007 Step by Step7 reviews
Joyce Cox and Curtis Frye, Joan Preppernau

Microsoft Press, 2007

Step by Step Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 book
I found this book to be most valuable in using Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007. It describes and teaches you the skills you need to use this program more efficiently. Even if you used this program before, which may have been an older program, it will be a big help to you. The CD that came with it is a plus especially for new users. Sincerely, Mary Graczyk

Online Training Solutions Inc., Curtis Frye

Microsoft Press, 2003

Informative Manual
This book is very good as a refresher manual. May be a bit complex if you are not familiar with it. Yet, overall, its a great reference book.

Microsoft Office Excel 2007 Plain & Simple (Plain & Simple Series)4 reviews
Curtis Frye

Microsoft Press, 2007

Excellent book!
This is exactly what I need. I don't have to read it cover to cover, I just look up what function I need to do and find the page and it tells me how to do it. Thanks Curtis D. Frye!

Microsoft Office Access(TM) 2007 Plain & Simple (Plain & Simple Series)4 reviews
Curtis Frye

Microsoft Press, 2007

Simple, yet Powerful
I have to say that this is not the book for someone wanting to run an administrative database for a 50k-employee company, but it IS a great book to freshen up on Access 2007. It comes with practice files to work on (if you are working cover-to-cover) and it is perfectly feasible to just go to the index and find the specific information you need. Good book :)

The First New Chronicle and Good Government1 review
Felipe Guaman Poma De Ayala

Hackett Publishing Company, 2006

A Fusion of Latin and Incan Mythologies
This book is an essential for anyone traveling to indigenous areas of Peru or Ecuador. Guaman Poma asserts his unique, proud identity and decries the Spaniards for having created the very problems their missionaries tried to solve. Perhaps most interesting is his fusion of Incan myths with Christian ones. As he is writing to the Pope, he has to navigate this fine line between Christianity and ...

The Great Code: The Bible and Literature9 reviews
Northrop Frye

Harvest Books, 2002

This book opens many doors - unless you prefer them closed
One of the review writers is going to be more than startled and probably very shocked to know that it is a matter of scholarly opinion that the Bible itself evolved, as do all literary works, from previous sacred scriptures, such as the Epic of Ba'al. Anyway, I read this book years ago and just recommended it to a friend. I came to this site just wondering how reviewers saw it. It's simply one ...

Flower Girl (All Aboard Reading)1 review
Gail Herman

Grosset & Dunlap, 1996

My Six Year Old Loved this Book
Like many girls, my daughter is obsessed with the concept of weddings. This book delighted her! The language is age appropriate, and she was very proud of herself when she read it on her own. A great book for a new reader!

This Is the Turkey2 reviews
Abby Levine

Albert Whitman & Company, 2003

Family fun on Turkey (or not) day!
I was trying to find a story about Thanksgiving that was NOT the usual, dry pilgrim & indian fare and this book filled my requirements perfectly. My 4-year-old took it to pre-k to share and I arrived just as the teacher began reading it; it was interesting enough to keep the rapt interest of fourteen 4-year-olds right up until the last page which, I think, says a lot. It begins with a little ...

Holistic Midwifery: A Comprehensive Textbook for Midwives in Homebirth Practice, Vol. 1: Care During Pregnancy12 reviews
Anne Frye

Labrys Press, 1998

A review for those who aren't midwifes...
This is a wonderful text. Unfortunately it is in a soft cover, unlike vol. 2 which is hard cover, but that aside, it is wonderful. I am a first-time mom who is planning an unattended home birth. Because of various problems I've also ended up without prenatal care so this volume has proven invaluable to me!! It is clear and exhaustive. This volume has a lot of information directed exclusively ...

Whiteness of a Different Color: European Immigrants and the Alchemy of Race8 reviews
Matthew Frye Jacobson

Harvard University Press, 1999

Contemporary scholarship at its finest.
"Whiteness of a Different Color" is a marvelous work of modern scholarship. In this excellent work of historiography/history, Jacobson explores the American conception of racial "whiteness" and how it has changed over time. This book won virtually every major scholarly award in 1999, most notably the American Studies Association's Award for the best book dealing with American istory and ...

Frye's 3300 Nursing Bullets for NCLEX-RN® (Frye's 3300 Nursing Bullets)1 review
Charles M Frye

Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2006

Nursing Nclex book
This is a great book. I like the way that it is organized. It has facts about different topics likes peds, and med-surg, but they are not all together. The facts are in a random order just like the questions on the NCLEX will be. This is a great book for anyone who has to take the NCLEX.

Anatomy of Criticism: Four Essays16 reviews
Northrop Frye

Princeton University Press, 2000

sweeping vision
In this classic work Frye takes a long view of literature, and discerns deep structural patterns. In Essay I he charts a progression in the history of western literature from myth through romance through realism to irony in which the hero becomes increasingly human. Essay III envisions different archetypal literary forms (comedy, romance, tragedy, satire) as continuous phases of a central ...

The Way We Do It in Japan6 reviews
Geneva Cobb Iijima

Albert Whitman & Company, 2002

Awesome book!!!
I am a director of a childcare center and I am running a multicultural program for our children. It is sooo hard to find good materials for small children that discuss other cultures. This book was excellent. The children loved it and so did I. It not only taught about the differences but it also had Japanese words strewn throughout the book. It also had a very simplistic pronunciation key ...
