Magical
My absolute favorite version of The Night Before Christmas. I adored it as a child, and am so happy it is still available so that I can read it to my children. A true delight.

My Favorite Edition!
This edition was a favorite of my sister and I when we were kids. RLS's poems are delightful, but Ms. Fujikawa's watercolor illustrations add such charm and lush detail... and she perfectly captured the multicultural children. I am now the family keeper of our well-worn treasure. This is the most delightfully illustrated version (in my opinion better even than the wonderful Tasha Tudor's).

Delightful Nursery Rhymes & Illustrations from 1915
This is more than a kids's book to me: it is a treasured family heirloom. The Volland Edition of Mother Goose Nursery rhymes is a well-worn book that sits on our lowest shelf for our kids to access freely. This has resulted in a bit of fraying on the edges of the pages and a binding that has started falling apart. But I have no regrets that my kids have returned to this book often and with ...

no strange text in this one
If you have read some of Gyo Fujikawa's other books, like "Oh, What a Busy Day", then you know they can have some strange stories. Why include the one about the two kids who go out into the woods and die? Still, this book is great. The drawings all have a very relaxed soft feeling and the underlying lesson is to be gentle with animals. This is a good book to share with your child at bedtime, ...

What memories it brings back!
I had this poem come into my head at the age of 40 - "old dog". The lines of it came to me once in awhile - I searched for it and searched for it - no luck anywhere. Finally I found an old handwritten book of poems of mine - favorites I had copied at the ripe old age of 10. Lo and behold - "Old Dog" was in this book. I bought it - I read it almost nightly to my 5 year old daughter and she is ...

Baby Animal Families

Adorable, irresistible animal babies: artist and author Gyo Fujikawa creates a warm and loving look at young creatures in the wild, together with their mommies, daddies, and siblings. In the woods, baby bunnies meet with small chipmunks and turtles. The icy far north features polar bears and seals atop ice floes. Tiny koalas ride piggyback on mama, way high in the treetops, while a joey stays snugly, safely in mother kangaroo?s pouch. Children ...

These are the stories that all children should experience, that will nourish their young minds and imaginations: Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, The Hare and the Tortoise, The Little Red Hen, The Three Little Pigs, and many more. Some are well known and beloved; others are unfamiliar, but they?re all beautifully written and illustrated. As always, ...

Most Memorable Book from Childhood
I was about 5 years old when I discovered this book, and I remember that I would check it out from the library, keep it for 2 weeks, and then renew it. The library had a rule about how many times you could renew before it had to sit on the shelf for a week. If no one else had renewed it, I would snatch it up as soon as I was allowed. This is absolutely my favorite book from childhood. I would ...
