The Spatial Economy: Cities, Regions, and International Trade2 reviews
Masahisa Fujita, Paul Krugman, ...

The MIT Press, 2001

A pretty good textbook with material not found elsewhere
If you are considering buying this book, you will probably want to do so. If you are interested in applying regional analysis or the "new" spatial economics that they present, you will have a good starting point. The necessary background is probably be a year of Ph.D. level economic theory. Specific high points are the exposition of the Dixit-Stiglitz model of monopolistic competition and ...

Jun Fujita, Tanka Pioneer
Denis M. Editor Garrison

Modern English Tanka Press, 2007

Jun Fujita (1888-1963) is perhaps the first master of tanka poetry in English. He certainly was a master of the rhetoric of omission or, as he put it, "that fine and illusive mood, big enough to illuminate the infinity of the universe," which is a defining characteristic of tanka, specifically, and of Japanese poetry, in general. His work is an important and foundational aspect of the English tanka heritage. Modern English Tanka Press takes ...

Heal the Ocean: Solutions for Saving Our Seas4 reviews
Rod Fujita

New Society Publishers, 2003

UPBEAT, REALISTIC AND FULL OF NEW IDEAS
Dr. Fujita's highly readable book is full of positive examples of changes we can make to improve the environment. It is a realistic insight into the science of environmental change. The book takes the time to present the problems facing our oceans but also shares success stories for change. This is a wonderful book for a non-scientist, non activist but interested reader.

Japan's Encounter With Christianity: The Catholic Mission in Pre-Modern Japan1 review
Neil S. Fujita

Paulist Press, 1991

A Story of Bravery and Tragedy
Though out of print, this book is well worth tracking down for those interested in Japan's introduction to Christianity. The stories of the sacrifices made by these early Christians, both as missionaries and particularly as native Japanese Christians, are a rebuke to much of today's comfortable Christianity. The book is also of interest to those studying dialogue between Buddhists and ...

Foo : A Japanese-American Prisoner of the Rising Sun : The Secret Prison Diary of Frank 'Foo' Fujita (War and ...5 reviews
Frank Fujita, Stanley L. Falk, ...

University of North Texas Press, 1993

A Very Emotional account of a Japanese Prisoner of War.
Having known Foo since High School days and later being a sister-in-law, I read the original dairy and saw the pictures he drew of the atrocities experienced there in prison. This book is an excellent account of the way it was. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a factual story of what it was like to be in a POW Camp in Japan during World War II.

Kwaidan: Ghost Stories and Strange Tales of Old Japan (Dover Books on Literature & Drama)2 reviews
Lafcadio Hearn

Dover Publications, 2006

Ghost Stories and Strange Tales...
First published in 1932, and later made into a movie, this is a great book of Japanese ghost stories and folklore translated by Lafcadio Hearn, a man who loved Japan and all things Japanese. Outside of the first story about the blind biwa player, Hoichi, the rest were new to me and wonderful in how well crafted and detailed they are. There are also some essays in the back that deal with myths ...

Berklee Instant Guitar: Play Right Now!2 reviews
Tomo Fujita

Berklee Press Publications, 2002

Great Beginner Book
I recommended this book to a friend that was just starting to play the guitar and didn't have time to take formal lessons. A few weeks after going through the exercices in the book, he developed a good foundation of technique. You can't go wrong with Tomo Fujita as the author.

Origins of the Social Mind: Evolutionary and Developmental Views

Springer, 2008

This book focuses on the evolutionary and developmental origins of the social mind, bringing together the currently segregated views on social cognition in the two fields. Ever since the term "theory of mind" was coined by D. Premack nearly 30 years ago, the concept has been the main topic of social cognition research both in developmental psychology and in primatology. These two research domains are integrated here by presenting new data on ...

The Fujita Plan: Japanese Attacks on the United States and Australia during the Second World War
Mark Felton

Pen and Sword, 2006

After the staggering success of the Pearl Harbor surprise attack, the Japanese plotted to maintain the initiative and spread fear and panic among the civil population of the United States and Australia. With his usual skilled research the author has uncovered numerous plans. Some like the midget submarine attack on Sydney Harbour and the daring Seaplane air raids on Oregon were put into effect. Others never reached that stage due to either ...

Economics of Agglomeration: Cities, Industrial Location, and Regional Growth
Masahisa Fujita, Jacques-Francois Thisse

Cambridge University Press, 2002

This book provides the first unifying analysis of the range of economic reasons for the clustering of firms and households. Its goal is to explain further the trade-off between various forms of increasing returns and different types of mobility costs. The main focus of the analysis is on cities, but it also explores the formation of other agglomerations, such as commercial districts within cities, industrial clusters at the regional level, and ...
