Healthy Digestion the Natural Way: Preventing and Healing Heartburn, Constipation, Gas, Diarrhea, ...22 reviews
D. Lindsey Berkson

Wiley, 2000

Excellent book if you have IBS or GERD or other Digestive Problems ...
This book is very thorough. It covers in depth the right foods, the wrong foods, what certain foods, supplements, and drugs do to digestive tract. It covers some history of digestive diseases, food alergies, home treatment, etc. The author makes no promises that this information will solve your particular digestive problem, however, she present the information honestly. I recommend this ...

No More Heartburn: Stop the Pain in 30 Days--Naturally! : The Safe, Effective Way to Prevent and Heal Chronic ...30 reviews
Sherry A. Rogers

Kensington, 2000

Candida NOT the only thing discussed here!
I'm not sure people who commented on Candida read the entire book. Or, perhaps it's the only aspect that caught their attention. This does NOT only deal with candida! The reason this book is as great as it is: Dr. Rogers never gives one theory or one fix for any one problem. She acknowledges every body is different. This is really important as simplistic as this sounds. Most books/doctors ...

Mayo Clinic Gastrointestinal Imaging Review7 reviews
C. Daniel Johnson, Grant D. Schmit

Informa HealthCare, 2005

Only text you need for boards
This is a great review book. It seems lengthy at around 700 pages, but is actually a very pleasant and quick read. This is all that you need for boards, meaning if you know this book for GI you will easily be fine. There is nothing negative that really can be said about this book, from the images to the discussions to the high quality medical illustrations. Excellent review text.

The Second Brain: A Groundbreaking New Understanding of Nervous Disorders of the Stomach and Intestine12 reviews
Michael Gershon

Harper Paperbacks, 1999

Step-by-step research overview
I'm extremly glad I've read this book before attending medical school. The author provides a textbook quality overview of the enteric nervous system in so many pages without boring or confusing the reader in the slightest bit. I loved this book and wish there were more neurobiologist authors out there like him.

Cope's Early Diagnosis of the Acute Abdomen (Silen, Early Diagnosis of the Acute Abdomen)8 reviews
Zachary Cope

Oxford University Press, USA, 2005

A must have for every medical doctor...surgeon or not...
I readed this book the first time 26 years ago, and it gave me a "sixth" sence as a suregon. Today I, as orthopaedical surgeon still have in my mind the essentials of the Dr. Cope's master-piece. I think it must be as a duthy ("a must be read book") in every serious medical school, to teach alumnii the surgeon's mind...even if the alumnii goes to clinical areas later on.

Breaking the Vicious Cycle: Intestinal Health Through Diet206 reviews
Elaine Gloria Gottschall

Kirkton Press, 1994

It worked immediately!
My 18 year old son was diagnosed with UC in May and I was told it was lifelong and incurable and he would be on medicine forever. That's when I fired the Dr. and found this amazing book. I am NO cook! We kept a journal of what he ate, bm's, cramps etc. and I have a whole spreadsheet that proves it works. By day 7 he had no cramping at all, by day 27, regular bowel movements returned. I ...

Gastrointestinal Physiology (Lange Physiology Series)2 reviews
Kim E. Barrett

McGraw-Hill Medical, 2005

Tremendous Overview of GI Physiology for the begginer or advanced
I read this book before ever taking a class on GI physiology (though I have a background in other aspects of physiology and biochemistry), and I was hooked from the first chapter. I was able to understand it as if I was reading Harry Potter. A year later I read it again for fun as a bedtime treat. It is tremendously well organized, each chapter is logically set up so that it is easy to think ...

Gut Solutions: Natural Solutions To Your Digestive Problems21 reviews
Brenda Watson, Leonard Smith

Renew Life Press, 2004

Major Health Improvement
This book has REALLY improved my health. My five stars (I'd give ten, if allowed) is based first on the little information on p. 27 stating that certain medications (for me, beta blockers and calcium channel blockers) can relax the sphincter that allows acid to come up the esophagus. Changing my hypertension medication made all the difference in the world--essentially overnight. In addition ...

Gastrointestinal Physiology: Mosby Physiology Monograph Series (Mosby's Physiology Monograph)2 reviews
Leonard R. Johnson

Mosby, 2006

Concise, good diagrams, good practice questions
I used this text for my Med I GI physiology and was surprised at how concise and well written it turned out to be. My instructor had assigned certain chapters, sections, figures but I it cover to cover in one sitting. Not only were the chapters well written an organized but the comprehensive examination at the end of the book was quite well done. Highly recommended!

Gastrointestinal Health: The Proven Nutritional Program to Prevent, Cure, or Alleviate Irritable Bowel ...12 reviews
Steven R. Peikin

Collins Living, 2005

Gastrointestinal Health by Peikin MD
This book is very useful for a wide constituency of physicians and patients . It is helpful for gastrointestinal, neurologic and rhematological problems. The author treats the nutritional dimension of our health. For instance, milk may harm ulcers and exacerbate other problems in the GI tract. Spicy foods may aggravate inflammations. The author explains that the small intestine digests proteins ...

Natural Stomach Care: Treating and Preventing Digestive Disorders with the Best of Eastern and Western ...11 reviews
Anil Minocha

Avery, 2003

Excellent research, crystal-clear writing
I'm a full-time health writer, and after 15 years in the business I've rarely come across a book that so perfectly combines medical findings with practical, easy-to-follow advice. Dr. Minocha is clearly an advocate of alternative styles of medicine, yet he approaches his topic with the eye of a scientist. When I want to know what something does, how it works, how to use it myself--the answers are ...

Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology: A Volume in the Foundations in Diagnostic Pathology Series (Foundations ...1 review
Christine A. Iacobuzio-Donahue, Elizabeth A. Montgomery

Churchill Livingstone, 2005

Useful text
I've had some complaints with this series, but this is one of the better texts. I have used it extensively and read most of it for review. The tables are quite good, and most illustrations/photos are good. It's certainly much better than teh GI chapters I've seen in multiauthored surg path texts. Definitely worth the money.

The Doctor's Guide to Gastrointestinal Health: Preventing and Treating Acid Reflux, Ulcers, Irritable Bowel ...3 reviews
Paul, M.D. Miskovitz, Marian Betancourt

Gastrointestinal Health by Miskovitz
This is an excellent medicinal reference on the workings of the gastrointestinal system. The book is written from the perspective of conventional medicine. It discusses classic gastrointestinal issues; such as, difficulty in swallowing, gas, non-cardiac discomfort, chest pain, nausea, abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss and constipation. Abdominal pain on the left side is associated with ...

Current Diagnosis & Treatment in Gastroenterology1 review
Scott L. Friedman, Kenneth R. McQuaid, ...

McGraw-Hill Medical, 2002

Great office "partner"
As a solo general surgeon just out of residency, I have found this text very helpful in constructing DDx and planning Tx. And, with no GI doc in town, I've found myself handling work-ups that they generally would handle such as chronic diarrhea, dysphagia or IBS. It helps me quickly and efficiently find an answer to a problem patient, whether it be in the office or after an EGD or colonoscopy ...

The Irritable Bowel Syndrome Solution
The best book that I have read on IBS. It gives you a "solution" to the problem. Unbelievable, finally, something honest and to the point. I couldn't put it down!
