I am very grateful for the book
I was born in 1959 and my son in 1984. The book helped me to see myself as a member of my generation. I was born and spend first 30 years of my life in Russia and would never expect to fit description of American baby boomers. Never-the-less a lot of things are pretty true for me. The book helped me to understand why my son does what he does. Even though he is pretty intelligent, his ...

I learned something new about a familiar subject
Even though I'd seen and heard multiple items about the founding generation, I was pleasantly surprised that I learned something new from this work...namely that the discussion of the location of the new capital was seriously sidetracked by an abolitionist delegation's visit (which was even blessed by fellow abolitionist Ben Franklin shortly before his death). Highly Recommended, a great yarn.

I highly recommend this book
I highly recommend this book in order to understand the post civil-rights black african american situation. Because of the interesting topic and writing style this book was a pretty quick read. Kitwana clarified so many issues: the unemployment crisis, the prison industry, mandatory minimum jail sentences, the drug war as a means to target black men, the gender war between black men and black ...

The Latest Generation
For many of the people responsible for bringing on the war in Iraq, "support the troops" is a term that sounds good but is really devoid of substance. Regardless of whether it was right or wrong to go to this war, there is little doubt that the military was often short-changed by the very people who were supposedly supporting them: poorly armored vehicles, inadequate or inappropriate supplies, ...

Read, and Your Ministry Will Never Be the Same
This book has a reputation of revolutionizing the way its readers view congregational life. Based on his experience as a rabbi and marriage and family therapist, the late Ed Friedman gives the most comprehensive and practical understanding of congregations as emotional systems. Conflicts are explained not from a linear standpoint, i.e. "A causes B," but from a systemic perspective where all ...

Here's Generation D's Failing Report Card
[Fred Allen, radio/TV comedian of the 50s, once "predicted" that the then mass of new TV-watchers would eventually have "brains the size of peas and eyeballs the size of cantelopes" if they didn't get the excesses of the"vast wasteland" (words of then FCC Chairman, Newton Minnow) -watching under control. Well...] Seems we just may have reached the point Allen had in mind, our having fostered a ...

A must have book for TOEFL iBT
This book and CDs is the only one you will need to score in TOEFL iBT. I have used Kaplan, Longman, Princeton but Delta stands out. Though this is a bit expensive it is worth the price. You will get the real benefit of this book with the CDs.

fellow slackers
This one is a gem for Gen X-ers like myself. It makes me feel like a part of a generation and not some independent under-achiever. I envy the three main characters being able to spend so much time together. They are from relatively well off families, which I can't relate to, but it does show their decision to avoid the mainstream. The idea of dysfunctional families is also well played. The ...

Great Book But Not the Whole Story
This is a great book, but it's not complete. The book does a wonderful job of showing why Christians look unattractive in the eyes of those who are not part of the faith. To complete the picture, I would recommend George Barna's excellent books "Revolution" and "Pagan Christianity"? These two books explain why most churches are unattractive to both Christians and non Christians alike, and ...

I liked this book since it gave me an insight into the different components of each generation and how to deal with them at work as well as in general. I manage early boomers to nexters and am a Gen Xer and this book will help a great deal with that challenging task.

Inspiring
This book provides a very broad view of the struggles women face in every aspect of life. A new perspective is gained when reading the first hand experiences of those who have really struggled, as a result of merely being themselves. This book provides a lot of insight and is a must read for anyone who sympathizes with feminist struggles, or who just cannot yet grasp why there is a need for ...

This analytical historical model holds up well 16 years later.
I think Strauss and Howe are on to something. Remember we are in the realm of social sciences, and no analytical model is ever 100% correct; if you reach 60% that's good. I think Howe and Strauss cleared this hurdle by a wide margin. I support my opinion on the following considerations. First, based on all the different generations I have met so far the Strauss and Howe model fits well. ...

This book is very similar in style, thesis, and layout to "Strapped: Why America's 20- and 30-Somethings Can't Get Ahead." A notable difference is this book's more journalistic style relying more on neutral testamonials than sensational exercepts from seemingly more original testimonials. The book's thesis is not that younger generations are lazier and solely themselves to blame, but that ...

Zombies Searching for Acceptance and Tolerance Instead of Brains
In its Brown v. Board of Education decision of 1954, the Supreme Court ruled that separate schools for black and white students were unconstitutional. The schools for whites were often superior to their counterparts for black students and consequently the separate schools offered very different educational opportunities. This ruling was key to the civil rights movement and efforts to end ...
