In the Name of God and Country: Reconsidering Terrorism in American History2 reviews
Michael Fellman

Yale University Press, 2010

Fascinating History for General Readers on American Examples of Terrorism
In 2004, I criss-crossed America for Knight-Ridder newspapers exploring the roots of "Anger in America." The resulting series of front-page reports showed readers how deeply terrorism is rooted in American history. The series included a controversial portrait of John Brown, the pre-Civil War militant, describing him as a deliberate terrorist. There are many other examples in American history, as ...

God and Country: America in Red and Blue2 reviews
Sheila Kennedy

Baylor University Press, 2007

Impartial and Focused
This book deserves to be on the bookshelves of everyone calling themselves politically educated. Kennedy examines the role of religion in the shaping of American politics and its effects upon the public discussion thereof with much more light than heat. It is not a polemic. It is the voice of reason in a land of shouters. It offers a solution for people of varied beliefs and backgrounds on how ...

God's Own Country1 review
Ross Raisin

Viking Books, 2008

Strange and wonderful
I've never read anything quite like this book. Despite the vernacular the author uses for the protagonist's voice, it is entirely understandable. The reader is inside the protagonist's head, and it is a very discomfiting place to be. Somehow, this odd character becomes both sympathetic and scary; it's a subtle protrayal. I found myself thinking about it long after I finished it.

The Good gets Better
God, Country, Notre Dame is a book that once again proves what an amazing man Father Hesburgh is. This book is inspiring. If you've never read or heard about Father Hesburgh, this is a must. He has got to be one of the top 10 most influntial people of the 21st century.

George W. Bush on God and Country: The President Speaks Out About Faith, Principle, and Patriotism49 reviews
George W. Bush

Allegiance Press, 2004

not "rarely" but FREQUENTLY goes to church
No matter what you think about this President, or that his opinion may differ from yours...one cannot say (as a review recently did) that this man "rarely goes to church." In respect for the President... and people protecting him... I will say that when the prez is in D.C. (more weeks out of the year than he is not) he goes to church...how do I know this? I have been there, worshipping with ...

For God, Country, and Coca-Cola: The Definitive History of the Great American Soft Drink and the Company That ...19 reviews
Mark Pendergrast

Basic Books, 2000

Great insight to the most devine beverage in the world :-()
Coca-Cola is my 'poison' of choice. I love it so much and it's about all I drink; therefore I have always wanted to know all the details behind the company and the beginning of the beverage itself etc. This book is the best out there for all that you want to know about Coke. It's very comprehensive (smallish print and over 450 pages (not including the notes and appendixes at the end). From ...

Lincoln on God and Country2 reviews
Gordon Leidner

White Mane Publishing Company, 2000

Words for the ages
We live in troubled times. The presidential candidate of one political p[arty is ridiculed for stating that Jesus is his favorite philosopher, and the vice-presidential candidate of the other political party is castigated for speaking about religion. What has happened to the moral tone of this country, which was founded by God-fearing men? Have we completely abandoned the idea that there is a ...

Me, My Country, My God
C. Thomas Anderson, Don Enevoldsen

Winword Publishing, 2005

America has never really been about Americans. It has always been about the "tired," the "poor," the "huddled masses" and the "wretched refuse" of the rest of the world who yearn to be free. For four

In God's Country: The Patriot Movement and the Pacific Northwest9 reviews
David A. Neiwert

Washington State University, 1999

Accurate
I am one of the Deputies David wrote about in the Chapter titled "Roundup". David wrote an excellent book and I can assure every reader that the information David wrote is true. Every american citizen should read this book. The information will certainly make you take another look at how divided this country really is and how some Americans will do anything to make you see that "their way" is ...

For God, Country and Coca-Cola: The Unauthorized History of the Great American Soft Drink and the Company ...9 reviews
Mark Pendergrast

Collier Books, 1998

Just fabulous
I have long been fascinated by Coca Cola as a product - its world wide marketing and dominance is just mesmerising. This book takes a good look at this phenomenon and is marvellously entertaining to boot. The stories of Coke's determination to get their product to the boys at the front during the war are brilliant, and others of the war with Pepsi are highly entertaining. This is well worth ...

God's Country: America in the 50's3 reviews
J.Ronald Oakley

Barricade Books, 1990

God looks back
If you enjoyed Halberstam's "Fifties," but missed things like the Edsel, then this is the book for you. Mr. Oakley left no stone unturned, from Davy Crockett to Albert Teller. I dare you to find the lacuna in this one--and there are some very cleverly worded sentences to go along.

For God and Country: Faith and Patriotism Under Fire33 reviews

PublicAffairs, 2005

Truth and Justice Always Prevail
Excellent insight into what actually is going on in Guantanamo, but more so, further exposure of the hypocrisy and blatant prejudice of the Bush / Neo-Con regime. Once again, we are shocked by the depths some US leaders will take to further their aims and power structure. In the end, though, Truth and Justice always prevail. Tremendous reading...couldn't put it down. Prayers go out to ...

Costa Rica: The Last Country The Gods Made14 reviews
Adrian Colesberry, Brass McLean

Globe Pequot Press, 1993

A spiritual geography......
This book evokes the country of Costa Rica and it's influence on its peoples by describing the harsh, desolate, yet sublime landscape that embodies the contradictions of Costa Rican life within it's borders and in it's geo-political stature in Central America. As dry-wiited as it is information soaked, this book gives the traveler a place to begin in the land that never seems to be what the ...
