Groundbreaking, Excellent Concept - Inadequate Research
I have often wondered why, among the untold thousands of books on 20th century warfare, almost none have provided contemporary aerial recon photos to illustrate the course of battle. We have countless books and miles of film footage featuring every possible visual detail of weaponry, uniforms, decorations, and dramatic scenes of men in combat. Yet very few show what is undoubtedly the ...

The Goodwood Revival Meeting was established in 1998, exactly 50 years after the famous motor circuit in southern England first opened, and now attracts more than 100,000 visitors each year to Lord March?s beautiful Goodwood estate. This gripping book celebrates the first 10 years of the Revival, which, for three days each September, re-creates in astonishing detail and with dramatic panache not only the motor racing of the years up to 1966, but ...

Tank Action in Normandy, 1944!
Operations Goodwood and Cobra were armored assaults undertaken in July 1944 to help the Allies break out of the French bocage country. Montgomery's Operation Cobra turned out to be a bloodbath, the Tommies gaining 34 square miles of territory at the cost of one-third(!) of the British armored forces in Normandy. The American Operation Cobra was much more successful and led to the collapse of the ...

Here is a new, revised edition of Heimdal's excellent book on this seminal tank battle - a battle that has become the object of studies at various war colleges over the decades since World War II. The narrative is accompanied by numerous contemporary photographs as well as 'then and now' shots. There is also extensive information on the units involved, their uniforms and equipment. French Text

To much trivia
The trivia and gossip is really interesting but a bit to much...the book flows well...but...,again, no quick read. If you have any interest in aristrocratic families or the Blue Blood british, then you will love this book. The photos are excellent but not enough. I expected a book about the art collections. In conclusion, very expensive.
Motor Racing at Goodwood: An Illustrated History
Robert Barker

THE STORY of motor racing at Goodwood from 1948 to 1966 covers the most exciting era in the post-war history of the sport. Goodwood earned a special place in the motorsport history of those years and in the affections of those who competed and spectated there. In this sympathetic, authoritative ...

Well presented information
If you're looking for a clear military history of the Goodwood operation, then look no further. The author lays out his information in a clear chronological order, well supported by detailed tactical maps, the kind of maps which are usually missing from other studies. It's also worth saying that the large format gloss paper lends itself really well to the nearly 200 photographs included, as ...

PENDULUM OF BATTLE: Operation Goodwood - July 1944
Chris Dunphie
Pen and Sword
, 2005
Operation Goodwood, the largest tank battle involving British troops ever to have taken place, has been a perpetual subject of controversy. Was it intended as a break-out from the Normandy Bridgehead, or not? Was it a success or failure? Did it lead to a severe crisis in confidence over Field Marshal Montgomery's leadership? This book seeks to unearth the true background, reasons, aims and achievement of Goodwood, set in the context of the ...

Detailed account
This is the first edition of the book. Helion Books in the UK has just re-released it with a completely new cover, new and crystal clear photos/maps. The content has been reorganized. Suffice to say, it is a great detailed account of this battle, its mishaps, its disaster from the Allied point of view. Perry is a well known wargame designer and his attention to detail shows. An Excellent Account of the "Apparent Failure"
For most American military history readers, Operation "Goodwood" was merely the largest of a string of British failures to seize Caen in Normandy in July 1944. Since most US histories of the Normandy campaign focus on the breakout with Operation Cobra, the "apparent failure" of Operation "Goodwood" as General Eisenhower referred to it, gets little scrutiny. Thanks to Pen & Sword's excellent ...
