This book was okay
The book was very informative and I can definitely see myself referring to it in my career should I be allowed to develop my own assessment systems but it was rather boring. A good resource for assessment ideas a lame book to read.

Good Ideas
There is so many curriculums out there but no one really explains why you should put into practice certain elements. This book provides an understanding of what are good teaching practices in writing and why. It is practical and I am using it to enrich my professional knowledge on teaching writing to second graders. I highly recommend it!

THE Basis of Karate-Do
Master Funakoshi provides an even greater legacy to our troubled world than that of modern karate. His book, "The Twenty Guiding Principles of Karate," is a rich guide to living one's life day-to-day. The applicability is not just to the dojo; but our homes, the corporate world, and every other environment. Although the serious karateka will treasure this volume; anyone who understands the ...

Compassionate and practical help for grieving families
This is an excellent book for parents of children dealing with all phases of loss. They explain how children of different ages perceive death in different ways. The authors go beyond the basics. They give specific advice on how to talk to children about different types of death including cancer, suicide and murder. They discuss different ways to rebuild after the loss. I particularly liked the ...

The seventh edition of this popular book supports the authors' belief that guidance is more than getting children to do what you want them to do now ; it is helping them to become everything they can become for all of their tomorrows. The book provides an overview, followed by discussion of core concepts, strategies for applying those concepts, and, finally, the broader perspective of professionalism and human resource development. Its ...

Elementary and Messy
This book is required for a 3rd year course at my university, and I am incredibly disappointed with it. The text is very simply written, making it pretty much useless for university-level studies. It also rarely refers to sources, and instead spouts information as though it is a parenting magazine or how-to book. Lots of general directions are given without reference to research or scholarly ...

A valuable contribution!
This is a concise, well-written, very understandable guidebook for parents and teens with LD facing a challenging time in their lives. Most delightfully, this book is very positive (while realistic) in its tone and suggestions. For a small book, it is simply packed with practical strategies (with emphatic finger-pointing bullets!) and guidance. The timetable is an easy to use resource for those ...

Read this book -- then give it to all your direct-reports
Yippee! No academic psycho-babble, overly complex diagrams, or overly simplistic management fables in this one. "Guiding Growth" is smart, witty, and engaging - a must-read for business leaders concerned about sustainable competitive advantage. Lipton begins by admitting something few other professor/consultant/authors would ever dare: he was wrong. Convinced that the link between vision and ...

An excellent usable resource
This is one of the best books on gifted children I have read. I think it is particularly valuable because it focuses less on schooling concerns and more on dealing with the specific issues these children deal with. There are chapters on stress management, motivation, peers, and feelings, to name a few, and each chapter gives tips on how parents can help kids with these issues. This is a great ...
