Clare and Francis4 reviews
Guido Visconti

Eerdmans Books for Young Readers, 2004

Illustrations are worth a thousand words....
This is one of the most beautifully illustrated children's books I've ever seen and I've been a librarian for over 30 years. Few books bring tears to my eyes and this did. A treasure!

The healing hand: Man and wound in the ancient world6 reviews
Guido Majno

Harvard University Press, 1977

A brilliant survey of early surgery
Majno's book is not only magnificently informative but great fun. His prose is a positive pleasure, his research and knowledge are immense, and he has the gift of combining several perspectives to explain why procedures that now seem appalling made sense to the physicians of the period. He has experimentally tested a number of ancient remedies, and he is refreshingly willing to assume ...

Days in Heaven4 reviews
Guido Mina Di Sospiro

Writer's Showcase Press, 2000

Everything that a perfect book should be!
My stepfather, Wayne (who wrote a smashing review here, as well) sent me Days in Heaven for my 21st birthday. It was a beautiful book to read; I read it twice and know I will read it again (and again...). Days in Heaven is a book of hope and inspiration. It shows us that life is not always what we anticipate, that it is full of surprises, miracles, and remarkable connections of different parts ...

Orlando Furioso (Oxford World's Classics)6 reviews
Ludovico Ariosto

Oxford University Press, USA, 1999

A True Classic
Orlando Furioso is a classic story that has often been overlooked by the average reader. We follow Charlemagne's paladins as they traverse the world, pagan and Christian, looking for adventure, fame, and love. They end up in many fascinating places such as enchanted castles, Hades, and on the moon with St. John the Apostle. Their adventures bring them into contact with fascinating people, ...

Guido's Gondola6 reviews
Renee Riva

WaterBrook Press, 2005

Great Book
I saw this book while I was on a trip to Italy and wished that I had bought it. I was pleased to find it on Amazon, so I ordered it. The kids love it and so do I. It is a cute story with a good moral message. The illustrations are great as well!

Fifty Years of College Football5 reviews
Bob Boyles; Paul Guido

Sideline Communications, 2005

50 years of love of college football
The book has a lot of things that I have never seen in one book including line ups by year and school. The book covers so much of the changes in the last 50 years from single platoon, single wing, full house tee and all of the other changes and styles of the last 50 years. It covers almost all of TV's college football. It has been a great 50 years of college football for me and it is well ...

Dressed for Death: A Guido Brunetti Mystery6 reviews
Donna Leon

HarperCollins Publishers, 1994

Leon goes 'high fashion' in this thriller
It's not that Venetians are unaccustomed to discovering a body in and about one of its many canalas, but when this particular body is found to be that of the director of a local, influential, bank, eyebrows and curiosity are raised. And even more so when this body is presented as a transvestite prostitute! All Venice is in an uproar! Donna Leon returns triumphantly in another of her ...

Understanding Yourself: It's So Darn Easy7 reviews
Guido D. Boriosi

Rutledge Books, 2001

finally, a book that lives up to it's title !!!
This book is wonderful!! It's message can be understood by everyone who reads it. The language is that of the average person on the street, not the jargon found in most of the previous so-called 'self-help guides'. Dr. Boriosi has taken a complex subject and distilled it to the basics. I hope that this is not the last from the good Doctor. Submitted by: ...

Fabio Paleari: The Leu Family's Family Iron7 reviews
Guido Costa, Henk Schiffmacher, ...

Trolley, 2004

Documenting life fully lived.
The family photo on the cover attracted me immediately, and then with each page I felt like I became part of the family. This is a "family album" of wonderful, hippie artists, living a life of art and travel. Their love for one another, and for their art, jumps off the pages. This is especially the case in the images near the end of the book of the family patriarch, Felix, living and working ...

Cells, Tissues and Disease4 reviews
Guido Majno, Isabelle Joris

Blackwell Scientific Publications Ltd, 1998

Hard to put down!
I agree with the Nobel Laurate quoted on the back of this book, - It's hard to put down! Interesting, well structured, highly readable book on general pathology with focus on the basic unit; the cell. I'd recommend this book to anyone with an interest in pathology, and especially the curious student who wants to know more than what't needed to pass an exam! Best medical text book I've read so far!

Devil's Playground3 reviews
Nick Cave, Nan Goldin, ...

Phaidon Press Inc., 2003

Nan Goldin's Magnum Opus
DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND is a lap-heavy, huge tome of the creative photographs of Nan Goldin, many of which have never before been published. Goldin is know throughout the museums of the world as a photographer who knows no barriers for her subject matter: AIDS victims, mental patients, transvestites, poor families, rural landscapes, constructed still lifes - these are but a few of the categories ...

Over Europe3 reviews
Jan Morris, Michael St Maur Sheil, ...

Weldon Owen, 1998

Not just another coffee table book!
If you regard this book as just another coffee table book you aren't even half right. This is one of the best photo books I have ever seen. The pictures are outstanding. Nearly every photo takes you to the alter of the church, the edge of the cliff, or the gate to the castle. Not only is it a photo book, but a great travel book. These aren't just descriptions of what to see, but beautiful ...

The ring and the book (Everyman's library [no. 502])2 reviews
Robert Browning

E.P. Dutton & Co, 1950

The unknown masterpeice of English literature
As an English major at the University of Pittsburgh, I was never exposed to this series of dramatic monologues. It's a pity, because when I finally stumbled across it, Browning went from being just another 19th-century poet to my favorite English language poet of them all, at one fell swoop. The Ring and the Book is based on a real-life murder trial in 17th century Rome. The story is told ...

Potty Time3 reviews
Guido Van Genechten

Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, 2001

Potty Time is Right On Time!
Featuring simple patterned text and familiar animals, Potty Time is right on time! Guido Van Genechten's illustrations, painted on old Belgian (?) newspaper, are bold, eye-catching...and silly! How can you not laugh at Nellie Elephant's "great big bottom" squatting on Joe's little pot? Or Missy Mouse's "teeny weeny bottom" perilously perched on the edge? With this book you can introduce the ...

Story of Giraffe4 reviews
Guido Pigni

Front Street, 2007

The Story of Giraffe
The Story of Giraffe by Guido Pigni and Ronald Hermsen was excellent. It is the tale of a lone giraffe that wishes to board Noah's ark, but is turned away because he is not one of a pair and the animals are supposed to arrive on the ark "two by two." Giraffe sets out on a journey to find another giraffe to join him on the ark, searching high and low without any luck. Giraffe is incredibly lonely ...

Flemish DNA & Ancestry: History of three families over five centuries using and genetic genealogy.3 reviews

Dokus Publishing, 2007

A seminal genealogical case
"Flemish DNA & Ancestry" by Duido Deboeck is a genealogical history of three families down through five centuries utilizing both conventional and genetic genealogical research methods. A seminal genealogical case study illustrating how the new science of genetics can be of immense and practical value as a genealogical research technique, "Flemish DNA & Ancestry" follows the featured families' ...

Breve diccionario etimologico de la lengua espanola : 10 000 articulos, 1 300 familias de palabras (Historia)2 reviews
Gomez de Silva, Guido

Fondo de Cultura Economica, 2006

De Silva's etymological dictionary of Spanish
This book was a very pleasant surprise: an excellent, ample etymological dictionary of Spanish at an affordable price and not too heavy! The dictionary provides a very informative and erudite history of Spanish words without being unclear or unreadable. I particularly liked the treatment of prefixes and suffixes as well as the etymology of non-Spanish place names such as "Londres" or "Zurich". ...

Nan Goldin (Monographs)3 reviews
Guido Costa

Phaidon Press, 2006

long live the queen!
nan goldin is, no room for a doubt, the greatest photographer of our decade. no one like her can capture the way modern life can be odd and beautiful at the same time. this book contains some of her brilliant artwork, the quality of the photos is really great, and besides, its less expensive than most of her books, and as good as most of them. its great to find another excellent book of her. ...

Microsoft Windows Security Fundamentals: For Windows 2003 SP1 and R24 reviews
Jan De Clercq, Guido Grillenmeier

Digital Press, 2006

Outstanding reference
Very good book, chock full of detail on things you have issues finding details on normally. Sections on Kerberos and Active Directory will likely be extremely enlightening for many people. Some pieces can be a little tough to follow at times but we aren't talking about how to color within the lines in a coloring book, this is some serious technical security information. I highly recommend that ...

Meditations on the Peaks4 reviews
Julius Evola

Feral House, 1996

Very good edition of an important book
America seems to be the country where there the translation of Evola's works is marching on faster than anywhere else. Surprisingly this tendency started at the same time as the breakdown of the Communist superpower. Are now even Americans for a future beyond Americanism? Another leading role for the American translations in the "Inner Traditions" series is the beautifulness of the covers, the ...
