Where The Dark Tower Series Really Takes Off
After being disappointed by the first Dark Tower book, "The Gunslinger", I was hopeful that the second installment would entertain me to a much higher tree. Jackpot! Whereas "Gunslinger" had a little too much storytelling and a little too little explanation, "The Drawing of the Three" takes a bit of a step back to help explain exactly what type of world Roland is living in. For a quick ...

Two Sweet Stories...
Two more sweet stories from Linda Laehl Miller that didn't disappoint me. As in most of her books, these two stories grab you in the beginning and hold you tight until you finish the last pages. These books were definitely not as "steamy" as other Miller books, but were sweet enough that it didn't matter. Wonderful stories that had me anticipating re-opening them to finish reading.

Ka is the wind
"The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed." Those words opened the first book of Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series, and they open the chilling, richly-drawn "Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born." This intense comic series reintroduces readers to a younger, less cynical Roland, and the harrowing tale of how he became a true gunslinger. It opens with the gunslinger ...

Excellent Adaptation of Wizard & Glass
This is a very good adaptation of the best part of "The Gunslinger" and the entire "Wizard & Glass." I read the single issue first, but unlike some of my fellow reviewers, I did not miss the extra background material that has been cut out. It is not as good as some classic graphic novels (like "The Watchmen"); however, it is still an excellent telling of a classic story. This is fine work by ...

The Dark Tower Comic 2
This was such a cool idea, and the artwork is awesome, but I have one problem with it. I kind of feel slighted that these comics are telling the story of the 4th book. I know that the title is Gunslinger Born but I still really want to get more of the story. Maybe it could have discussed what happened between the events of the 4th and the 1st novel. I was hoping there would be more story to the ...

Masterpiece
The late Ed Dorn wrote a masterpiece with "Gunslinger", an anti-epic poem that prefigures many post-modern gestures from its 60s era starting point. Funny, cartoonish, erudite to the extreme, it also locates a tuned lyricism in the Western vernaculars that Dorn uses: the metaphysical aspect of our legends, the sheer questing for answers as Euro-Americans come treading closer to a West coast ...

A lot of the Gung-Ho Guns have fallen victim to defeat and therefore death, but not by the bullets of the reluctant hero, Vash the Stampede. But even if the "Guns" seem to be dwindling, that doesn't mean there's a lack of violent freaks tearing up the planet. In "Gunslinger" Vash is running into all sorts of weirdos with guns. All the while, Kinves and his crew have something mysterious going on behind the scenes, and it doesn't look good for ...

Finally Coming Together
While Vol 4 meandered about, for the most part... so does Volume 5, sadly. But, the last chapter of the book is superb and brings back the excitement, tragedy and heartfelt sentiment found in the first 3. The manga is still hit or miss from chapter to chapter, but when it hits, it's some of the best stuff out there.

TRYING TO FIND A CONNECTION
Volume 4 of Gunslinger Girl begins with a focus on perhaps the saddest member of the cast of girl assassins: Claes. Her handler had begun to doubt the ethics of what he was doing and had thought about exposing the whole operation. To prevent this, he was liquidated by the SWF. The problem is that once a girl bonds to her handler, there is no going back and it is extremely hard, if not impossible, ...
The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger
Stephen King
New Audio Library
, 1988
The first epic fantasy of The Dark Tower series read by the author. The Gunslinger is, in Stephen King's words, "the first stanza in a much longer work called The Dark Tower". This spell binding fantasy is set in a world of ominous landscape and macabre menace that is a dark mirror of our own. A heroic tale of good verus evil, it features one of King's most powerful creations--The Gunslinger.

The Dark Tower #7
I'm giving the same review to all the comics in this series. It's too bad that King's epoch is so monumental that this comic serialization represents only a miniscule slice but for an abridgement it is excellent and,in my opinion, they've chosen the best segment. The writing is good, the art work alone is worth the purchase of the series. The insightful essays following each segment were ...

The Gunslinger
I was hook on the Gunslinger back in 1984, but was only able to find 2 of the series and only in paperback. I have been a fan of Stephen King since I was in the U.S. Army bootcamp. I have been checking every now and then to find the rest. Thanks to Amazon I've order the entire series and in hard bound.
