Great book!
This about covers every aspect of that 20 year phenomenon "Gunsmoke"The personal insights from everyone associated with that show from the writers to all the great and soon to be great actors. As a die hard fan of this show I was incensed by some of the decisions made by a couple of producers who made I think, some very bad decisions based on personal feelings and insults made to some key actors. ...

Long live the destroyermen
Pick an ocean, any ocean. Add a few Navy destroyers, throw in a healthy dose of salt spray, then brace yourself. Such a concoction breeds unique ship crews who are renowned as colorful characters with irreverent lifestyles. Now some of their own have jumped ship and penned these clever sea stories. These tales, some taller than others, offer unique insights into life aboard the "greyhounds of ...

A book to whet one's appetite for the whole series.
Having enjoyed the mountain man series and the last gunfighter series I came across this book first in the library: it certainly whetted my appetite to go on and read the whole series. Sam and Matt are involved in a classic situation between sheepmen and cattlemen and, as is their wont, come in on the side of the underdogs even though they are cattle men themselves.

Classic Western
I read this book for the first time over 20 years ago. Loved it then, still do. Will Henry/Clay Fisher brings these people from the past alive. They become living breathing sympathetc characters in this book and all his others. Bravery, cowardice, pathos it's all here. One of my prized posessions is a picture of me by Luther S. " Yellowstone " Kelly's grave above Billings, Montana. Will ...

Wilder than Tombstone and Deadwood on a Saturday night!
Boessenecker's Gold Rush era-California is wilder than Tombstone, Dodge City and Deadwood on a Saturday night Fourth of July weekend. I thought I knew the Old West, but I didn't, because I didn't know Old California. Now I do. The chapter on Joaquin Murrieta is worth the price of the book and clears away a cloud of unknowing about California's most legendary bandit. I hope this is just ...

Scurvy Dogs, Green Water and Gunsmoke
Scurvy Dogs, Green Water and Gunsmoke: Fifty Years in US Navy Destroyers, Volume 2 "Destroyers, now there's the real Navy!" Gobbell's review comments about Marines and SEALS might not be exactly gospel, but it's close enough. Learning about Tin Can Swabs, you learn they're pretty much grunts in a metal and aluminum AO (Area of Operations) and steel foxholes darting around the worlds ponds. ...

Great Read - A must for fans of the American West !!!!
I received a copy of this book while recovering from major surgery and despite its bulk (500 plus pages), I couldn't put it down. I especially enjoyed the photos and detailed coverage of firearms use in frontier life in the 1800s, a topic I've not seen covered so well elsewhere. I also liked the chapters on women as shootist, the presence of foreign-made guns in the west, Indian Guns and frontier ...

Colorado Gunsmoke: True Stories of Outlaws & Lawmen on the Colorado Frontier
Kenneth Jessen
Jv Publications
, 1995
In the early days of the American West, Colorado was no stranger to the six-shooter and the lynch mob. The names Bob Ford, Doc Shores and Clay Allison figured prominently in the state's history. So did the lesser-known names of James Gordon, Charley Harrison and others. In this unique collection, Kenneth Jessen brings to life twenty-three episodes featuring Colorado's most flamboyant outlaws and lawmen.

it rocks
I am a huge gunsmoke fan, since it first was shown in 1955. i thought it was interesting on how they auditioned and chose the main charcters, I enjoyed this more than the 50th year, due to the fact that Miss Kitty, was alive and others that were guest star were also. It was not a boring book and the layout was very good. They also had an interview of Roger Ewing (Thad) Which was informative. ...

Mr. West....keep'em coming!!
I really enjoyed this book. If you read the first two books the errors and mistakes are still there. Example Matt Dillon a City Marshal. But please overlook that. The stories are still very exciting to read. And we all know the facts so sit back and enjoy the book. It's also good to see Doc back in the story. We all know Dodge wouldnt be Dodge without him. Festus is still very loyal to the ...
