When an OB/GYN goes to jail for providing legal abortions...
Written on a topic that others shun, either to read or to experience, OB/GYN Bruce Steir speaks candidly and in heartfelt terms about how his services provided greatly needed assistance to many women. His dedication to "...all the women who have exercised their right to reproductive choices are to their daughters and granddaughters that their rights will continue to be honored" resonates--today, ...

Wonderful book
Rx for Happiness: An OB/GYN's Story As someone who worked with Dr. Grody for eleven years, I loved this book. Illuminating insight into hospital life
This is the first book I read on my journey into the complex and highly specialized world of medicine. Harrison's journal style account of all the problems she encounters as a woman in residence in a large city hospital are insightful, and heartfelt. Some years later, I worked in a hospital for my research, and Harrisons' observations vividly returned to me. I would highly recommend this book ...

Finally! Someone shows 50+ women are on TOP of the hill, not over it!
Hurray for female characters in their fifties who don't come off like over-the-hill harpies. These women are bright, brave and funny. The book is about Gwyenth Berke a gynecologist and her two friends, Fleur and Kat as they discover life isn't over at menopause, it's just beginning. I really loved it. It made me laugh out loud! But I was also touched by Gwyneth's relationship with her dad and I ...

This is the most balanced discussion on the topic of abortion I have ever read. This author has presented not only his perspective but the perspective of others that he considers. The pros and cons given leave the reader with the opportunity to choose for themselves. It is not a sermon, but a sensitive appraisal of wisdom where there is no right answer.

Critical health care you SHOULD know!
Women should read this book as if their life depended on it, because it COULD! I was not only astonished by what I read, but I was struck by the courage of Dr.John M. Smith for saying what women desperately need to hear first-hand! I bought copies for my daughters to read before they ever step foot into a doctor's office. I hope, not only for myself but for future generations of women, this book ...

An owner's manual for your female parts
I love this book. Its like having an owners manual for your female parts. It was easy to read and covered all the problems a woman faces with their reproductive system. I bought lots of books when facing a hysterectomy, and this book was clear and to the point without scaring me to death. It will stay on my shelf because it covers common problems like fibroids, embolization, ovarian cysts, ...

The Nanny Diaries of GYN!!!!
"Beyond the Stirrups" is an extraordinary compilation of the joys, trials and tribulations found behind the closed doors of a gynecologist's exam/consultation room. There isn't a thing missing here. The book is well written, the pace is great, the dialogue flows and each chapter tells its own personal story. (this I found to be a real plus) There's no question that some of the stories are ...

Should be in every woman's library
Quick read, yet wonderfully informative. I love the stories and I love her frankness. I am a thirty something who feels very aware, in control of my health issues and makes good use of my doctors. Yet, thanks to Letters to my Sisters I will now approach my doctor visits, especially my OB/GYN visits with a different mindset. There is so much more to know and this book delivers it in a way that ...

Inspiring and compelling memoir of hope in times of despair
Seldom has a missionary painted such a compelling portrait of hope from darkest despair as Dr. Catherine Hamlin in her inspiring memoir, THE HOSPITAL BY THE RIVER. When she and her husband, Reg, embarked on their careers in gynecology in Australia, they never dreamed their work would eventually take them halfway across the globe to the third world country of Ethiopia to establish a teaching ...

Very Good Book Documenting the Reservist Role in Gulf War
As a tentmate, I find his accounts very accurate. He brings a human element to the reservist role activated from private practice and serving in the armed forces during operation desert storm. The EVAC hospital located in northern Saudi Arabia was important in the ground war as well as reconstruction afterwards with the care of the POW. The book is light and entertaining. It is a modern day ...

scary
This book is a fascinating insight into a man who (for whatever reason) decided to play God. It was scary to realise that he could get away with it for so long and that even after he was proven guilty he was being defended by the medical establishment. This is a well written book and although the author was involved first hand in the case he does writes from a third person perspective which ...

Informative, an easy read approach to gynecology.
I found this book to be quite informative with a direct and humorous approach to the sometimes "personal" (my own) questions dealing with women's menopausal issues. With the doctors' sense of humor and straight foward explanations, I found it easy to progress through this book. Purchase and enjoy! EW-Holland, PA.

single best concise resource on this info I have ever seen
The title says it all. This is the single best resource on standard medical information of this type I have ever seen. I am a Peace Corps volunteer in rural Guatemala, and this book is as useful to me in the field as it was when I was living in the States. I recommend this as an eye opening and informational read to all women age 14- menopause.

In The Patient's Best Interest: Women and the Politics of Medical Decisions is a book about the ways that women are influenced by their doctors about reproductive issues, including the decision to have a hysterectomy, when a more conservative treatment might work just as well. I highly recommend this book to any person who works with women in health care setting, especially in poor, ...

This is an excellent work on the inner workings of the feminine body and hormonal chemistry. The author explains the interplay between the Pituitary gland, the Follicle Stimulating Hormone, eggs and the production of estrogen. The Graffian follicle bubbles from the ovary for a trip to the womb. There are sketches depicting menstrual cramps and the pelvic tilt. Reduced sperm counts and male ...
